Although Colorado law provides multiple ways of disproving a criminal defendant acted in self-defense, the Colorado Supreme Court on Wednesday considered whether jurors must agree unanimously on which single condition nullifies a self-defense argument.

In doing so, one of the justices worried that a newfound unanimity requirement could open up past criminal convictions to reversal.

It is 10:30 at night. You walk into a small restaurant to get your takeout order. You’re talking on the phone when a man behind the counter turns around, sees you, and points his gun at you. He orders you to hand over your phone. The three employees behind the counter have their hands up and are emptying the cash drawer. While you had your head in your phone, you walked in on a robbery in progress.

You’re a gun owner. You have your Pennsylvania concealed carry permit. You’re armed tonight. You hold your phone out as you draw your firearm. You shoot your attacker one time in the neck. Now the attacker drops his gun and falls to the ground.

In the early years of the twentieth century whitetail populations were making a comeback and deer hunting was a growing sport. Lever action rifles ruled the woods for at least the first half of the century and beyond. Even in my early years of hunting in the late sixties, lever actions seemed to fill the gun rack in every deer camp. The most popular was the Winchester Model 94, usually in .30-30, and this rifle dominated the deer woods.

Times have changed, however, and the ACLU has shifted their priorities. In the last few years, the ACLU is better known for seeking cheap headlines over principled legal work. That’s a bad sign for our constitutional rights, which are already on shaky ground. To protect our founding principles, Americans need other nonprofit law firms concerned with constitutional rights to grow, and for new organizations to be formed.

The five justices who have shown courage and strong originalist tendencies are:
Justice Thomas, Justice Alito, Justice Gorsuch, Justice Kavanaugh, and, Justice Barrett. All of them have shown an inclination to treat the Second Amendment seriously.

As the relatively bloodless revolt against the Left/Media/Corporatist/Deep State has progressed, the desperation of the totalitarian technocrats to control who was allowed on the Supreme Court intensified.

One takeaway from a tumultuous 2020 is that the Second Amendment and gun rights is a front and center issue once again. Academic philosophers — mostly — have long been suspicious of any asserted right to own firearms. I think the protests of 2020 help reveal what they’ve missed.

So, earlier this fall, John Lott accepted a position at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Specifically, he went to work as a senior adviser for research and statistics at the Office of Justice Programs—this is a DOJ division that quietly gives out $5 billion in grants annually. Sounds like a boring job for a statistician and researcher, right?

Not exactly.

To find out what a new Constitution might look like, my colleagues and I at the National Constitution Center recently asked three teams of scholars—conservative, progressive, and libertarian—to draft new Constitutions for the United States of America in 2020 from scratch.

Kyle Rittenhouse's original lawyer says he is no longer part of his criminal defense team, but he is still trying to raise money for his client through a brand new website, and planning a different kind of defense.

John Pierce told the host of a show on Newsmax TV that he's preparing "probably the most significant case of defamation in the history of the country," against defendants like President-elect Joe Biden, Facebook, CNN and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Newsmax is a conservative news site that backs President Donald Trump's false claims of election fraud.

Foundations are set to align with desired results. If you want to prepare yourself for an optimal self-defense outcome against a real-world physical threat, then there are three self-defense cornerstones you can adopt to tip the scales in your favor. These are: mental toughness, a necessary state of mental readiness; threat recognition, the ability to identify and address a developing physical threat; and tactical performance, which is the capability to physically respond to an active threat on demand.

House Republicans say it’s time for the Pritzker administration to address the major delays for FOID cards and concealed carry licenses (CCL).

The lawmakers said some constituents have waited over a year to receive their renewed or initial FOID cards and CCLs. They argued Illinois should eliminate the FOID program entirely if the state can’t operate it efficiently.

Rep. Avery Bourne (R-Morrisonville) says Gov. JB Pritzker should fix the issue or let lawmakers return to Springfield to create solutions.

Adam Kraut is director of legal strategy for the Firearms Policy Coalition, which has a pair of cases involving firearm prohibition sitting on the high court's door step.
