UPDATE: February 11, 2026 has been set by the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals for an en banc rehearing of two cases challenging New Jersey’s restrictive “sensitive places” law, but for the Second Amendment Foundation—which filed one of the cases, known as Koons v. Attorney General of New Jersey—the announcement came as good news.

What’s new—Opening my email on Dec. 11, I spied an announcement from the Duke Center for Firearms Law about its new executive directo,. Hayley Lawrence. Then I read her bio. She worked at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Washington, DC office and specialized in national security law, international trade, and anti-money laundering policy.

| QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
| "Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing) |
