After the recent events at Virginia Tech, Nickel Mines, the Van Maur department store in Omaha, and Highway 26 near Zigzag, I'm sure you know generally what to get your loved ones for Christmas. But if you're fairly new to the world of armaments, here's a few can't-miss suggestions guaranteed to bring a smile, and a serene sense of security, to your sweethearts:

Paul Raises $6 Million in 24-Hour Effort

Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term Texas congressman's campaign for the White House.

Called a "Money Bomb," the goal was to raise as much money as possible on the Internet in one day. The campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million.

At midnight EST, donations were over $6 million, according to the campaign Web site. Those donations are processed credit card receipts, said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. Benton said the median donation is about $50 in the fundraiser, which was the idea of Paul supporters who are not officially connected to the campaign.

Timing is everything, and the Supreme Court's acceptance of a case regarding the constitutionality of a handgun ban in Washington, D.C. could become the most critically timed examination of a civil right in the nation's history.

A decision will come in the middle of the 2008 presidential campaign, galvanizing gun rights activists who will demand more than lip service about "support for the Second Amendment" from whoever are the front-runners in both parties by that time.

The wisdom of bearing arms

When the U.S. Supreme Court gets around to deciding what the Second Amendment means to Justice Anthony Kennedy — who, we are constantly reminded, is the guy who really matters — I hope it won't forget what happened in Colorado Springs.

What started out as a perfect example of the dangers of allowing Americans to keep and bear arms — the fatal shooting of two teenage girls and the wounding of their father in a church parking lot — ended instead as a nearly perfect example of the wisdom of allowing Americans to keep and bear arms.

I have been waiting for this to happen. For years we have witnessed the carnage when innocents were mowed down at schools, colleges, shopping malls and post offices. The unarmed (disarmed?) were easy targets for crazed gunmen armed with grievances, weapons and ammunition. Now someone has shot back, probably saving many lives. All of the gun-control laws that have been passed and are still being contemplated could not have had the affect of one armed, trained and law-abiding citizen on the scene like 42-year-old Jeanne Assam, a volunteer security guard at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs.

Control sought on military lawyers

The Bush administration is pushing to take control of the promotions of military lawyers, escalating a conflict over the independence of uniformed attorneys who have repeatedly raised objections to the White House's policies toward prisoners in the war on terrorism.

The administration has proposed a regulation requiring "coordination" with politically appointed Pentagon lawyers before any member of the Judge Advocate General corps - the military's 4,000-member uniformed legal force - can be promoted.

Last night Mr Smith's family called for tougher sentencing for knife crime.

His brother Chris, 42, said: "Every time I look at a knife, a small knife, an ordinary knife, I wonder was it like this?

"It haunts me. He was touched by pure evil that day and we are the ones serving the life sentence.

"This is the reality of knife crime, this poison, what it leaves behind and destroys.

"Where is the real deterrent, the penalty for carrying knives?"

note: Paroled out in 10 years? probably.

NJ: 50,000 residents get unusual postcard

It looks like a postcard sent out by alarmists - STOP ILLEGAL GUNS NOW!!! On the back of the postcard is the name and address of the person responsible for sending it out to more than 50,000 Jersey City residents: Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, City Hall, 280 Grove St., Jersey City, NJ 07302. As it turns out, the postcard unfolds into a letter from Healy asking recipients to fill out the accompanying card at the bottom with their name, address, telephone number, and e-mail, and send it back to City Hall. Healy seeking support for the "One Gun A Month" Bill currently up for a vote in the state Senate. It is legislation that stems from a Jersey City ordinance passed last year by the City Council.

The Western New York Scholastic Trap League was formed 12 years ago with three high school teams by NRA instructor Tom Kelley. This year seven schools participated and next year there may be as many as 11 schools. Each school fields as many as 20 to 30 male and female shooters. Unfortunately for students in some schools, administrators refuse to recognize trap as a legitimate sport for fear of offending someone.

This is a message we have to get out to everyone. Unfortunately for Jeanne Assam but fortunately for everyone else at the church she had to shoot the perp. In my case, just displaying the weapon stopped the attack. And fortunately for me it never reached the media. Still very disconcerting. Please forward this article to your local newspaper for publication.

The little Rugar[sic] 10/22 is a fine weapon, I have had mine for over ten years and I must say it has served me well. Mine has taken a truck load of small game and some not so small (wink), including a pot belly pig, that was insistent on getting into my garden. If I could only have one gun for survival purposes it would be the Ruger 10/22. Once you learn how a weapon works, and what the parts do each time the trigger is pulled, it's generally not difficult to determine what has broken, when it breaks.

Last month, the Supreme Court agreed to consider District of Columbia v. Heller, which struck down Washington’s strict gun ordinance as a violation of the Second Amendment’s “right to keep and bear arms.” This will be the first time in nearly 70 years that the court has considered the Second Amendment. The outcome of the case is difficult to handicap, mainly because so little is known about the justices’ views on the lethal device at the center of the controversy: the comma. That’s right, the “small crooked point,” as Richard Mulcaster described this punctuation upstart in 1582.

My thoughts on Sen. Kerry's Urging: I have experienced first hand Mr. Sullivan's leadership of the ATF. He is vindictive, and will have his people fudge the evidence in court just to make a case. {look it up US v. Kwan}.

I have had armed audits, and visits, not to mention, been penalized by Mr. Sullivan for having the Babylonian indecency to tell juries that ATF has no written testing program for firearms evidence in Federal Court. They actually admitted it Congress back in 05. "Maximum Mike" was informed, instead of cleaning up the mess he opted to cover it up! Faking evidence in Federal Court. If you think bullet testing was bad, look at how ATF tests the rest of the gun!

The Second Amendment Question before the Supreme Court [is] Constitutionally Flawed and Dangerous

Unfortunately, this question is constitutionally flawed because 3 words have been incorrectly joined together. Those words are: "Second Amendment rights." By incorporating the words "Second Amendment rights" into the question, the Supreme Court has completely altered the intent and scope of the Second Amendment. Thus, the Court will decide the case on a fictitious amendment created by the federal judiciary.

Happy Bill of Rights Day Peasants

Tomorrow is perhaps the most important of the holidays around the world, yet few celebrate, much less even know it is a declared holiday. December 15 is Bill of Rights day. A remembrance of the first Ten Amendments to the United States Constitution.

When President Bush refers to the Constitution as, "Just a God-damned piece of paper," he is really referring to the Bill of Rights. After all, any pretense that the U.S. Constitution in any way restricts the powers of the federal government have long since been put to rest. But the average U.S. citizen still fantasizes that they have Rights that supersede their governments' demands, and remain inviolate.

Most of us are aware that the heroic actions of a brave woman at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado a few days ago saved the lives of perhaps scores, or even hundreds, of people. However, her bravery would not have counted for much had she not been armed.

Torture: Take Two

Various parts of the Federal monster are feigning shock and distress at other parts’ crimes. This time, it’s the CIA’s destroying videotapes of its "harsh interrogations" that has Congress in an uproar....

Currently, the torturers hone their technique on "terrorists," most of whom aren’t citizens. But they’ll turn their skills on us soon enough. No government in history has ever been so busy torturing foreigners it neglected its own people. It’s a short slope, and slippery as a politician’s promise, from waterboarding "terrorists" at Gitmo to torturing drug dealers and users, pedophiles, drunk drivers, tax resisters, political protesters.

In the last presidential election, NRA rallied its members, raising millions of dollars against John Kerry by telling us he would initiate and support measures harmful to our right to keep and bear arms. Kerry is supporting confirmation of Michael Sullivan as head of ATF, and is joined by Ted Kennedy and the Brady Center's Peter Hamm.

Every national "pro-gun rights" organization has come out against this confirmation except for NRA. The biggest of them all, the leader, is silent.

Why?
