"Touting itself as 'an independent research project located at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland,' and further as 'as the principal international source of impartial and public information on all aspects of small arms and armed violence,' the [Small Arms Survey] does not make clear how it maintains that independence and impartiality in light of the interests of its leadership, staff and benefactors." ...

... "But other recent events in Colorado suggest a larger pattern. Recently, rabidly anti-gun Colorado state senator Evie Hudak surrendered her senate seat, rather than face the kind of resistance that defeated her rabidly anti-gun Democrat pals John Morse and Angela Giron--resistance provoked precisely by their anti-gun extremism."

"The parallels are almost spooky. In both cases, an angry, maladjusted loser with a grudge storms in and commits horrid violations of the rights of others, with ambitions to dramatically expand on that evil, but instead meets unexpectedly stiff resistance, from unexpectedly resolute and courageous would-be victims, and withdraws from the fight in the most cowardly way possible." ...

"Women seeking to arm themselves and their daughters are figuring out that guns are not ‘taboo’ but a powerful means of protection."

"'Women are the holy grail of the Second Amendment movement,' said Skip Coryell nationally recognized firearm expert and author of the newly released The Shadow Militia."

"The Second Amendment will stand or fall depending on the way women vote, he said. 'Women make-up about 52% of the population and they vote with a mind of their own.'"

"Women and particularly women with children have been raised with an idea that guns are dangerous. Yet once women get over their initial fear of the firearm, they feel empowered by it, he said. 'Women want to be armed and capable.'" ...

"There’s a difference between a compensator and a muzzle brake: one eliminates felt recoil, and one eliminates muzzle climb. I wrote a more in-depth article about the distinction, but that’s a basic overview. It’s designed for those who want the smallest firearm profile possible . . ." ...

"TTAG would never Steyr you wrong. OK it’s pronounced 'shteye-r.' But in my business you don’t cut funny. And it’s true: when it comes to reviewing products upon which your life may depend, TTAG wouldn’t give you a bum Steyr. So we can’t hand-on-heart say that Steyr’s double-action-only L-A1 Service Pistol is a great gun or merely a $560 (retail) GLOCK wanna-be. We’ll try to get ahold of a test gun for review. (Let’s hope we have more luck than U.S. gun stores, who rarely have Steyrs in stock.) Meanwhile, I’ll say this about Steyrs: they have really great, crisp triggers and the grip angle is more severe than a GLOCK’s (but they point better). YMMV. ... "One of the main arguments for easy access to guns, especially the powerful kind, is self-defense. Since an armed criminal element exists and is bent on wreaking havoc on normal, law-abiding citizens, guns are necessary for our own protection. No amount of gun control is going to stop a determined criminal, the argument goes, so we need guns to deter crime and, more importantly, to put a stop to crime when it occurs."

"It’s notoriously difficult, of course, to determine with accuracy the relationship between gun ownership, gun control, and crime. Nevertheless, common sense tells us that a determined criminal will strike despite the possibility that the victim might be in possession of a gun. ..." ...

"There was an interesting confluence of two stories in last Sunday's paper."

"That's fine. The Second Amendment assures the gun rights of law-abiding citizens."

"But considering the other story in Sunday's paper, let's hope and pray that all those carriers are employing good gun safety practices at home."

"• The other story, 'How can parents teach gun safety? Experts say there is no effective way. So how can children learn?,' said research suggests that gun safety programs for children tend to be ineffective. Children can be taught gun safety and safe hunting practices, but those lessons don't seem to 'stick.'" ...

"It’s true, despite what you may hear or read, mass shootings in the United States are declining. I originally compiled this list a year ago, but given the recent situation at Arapahoe High School, it seems like a good time to revisit it. There have been several documented cases in which armed citizens have stopped what could have been mass attacks by gunmen. "John Cooke holds two 30-round magazines in his hands. In one hand is a 30-round magazine purchased before July 1st, when Colorado’s new gun laws took effect and banned purchases of magazines larger than 15-rounds. In his other hand is a 30-round magazine that 'maybe' ... was purchased after the deadline. Two magazines, virtually identical in every aspect, except one is legal and the other is not. Cooke, who serves as Sheriff of Colorado’s Weld County, says that’s exactly his point. His deputies cannot enforce the law if the law is so vague as to make it practically impossible to distinguish what’s legal from what is illegal. Therefore, Cooke, along with all but seven of Colorado’s 62 elected Sheriffs, are suing to block the law." ...

"Florida is considering a bill, HB 89, that would protect citizens who defensively display firearms or who fire warning shots, from being victimized by the law for the act of defending themselves. The genesis of the law is the fact that most people are able to defend themselves by merely showing the attacker that they are armed. This defuses the situation in the vast majority of cases: people do not want to be shot. There’s apparently no truth to the rumor that, should it be enacted, the law will be known in the Sunshine State as Jill Biden’s Law . . ." ...
