When Washington Post Columnist E.J. Dionne wrote that the National Rifle Association’s power is waning in a piece headlined “It’s the beginning of the end for the gun lobby’s power,” was he really trying to sound “Taps” over the Second Amendment?

By no small coincidence, Dionne’s Op-Ed came on the heels of an appearance by Polk County, Fla. Sheriff Grady Judd on Fox and Friends Saturday, during which the career lawman endorsed the idea of arming volunteer teachers to provide a first line of defense for students in an emergency.

President Obama and President Trump were both right, Obama when he told us elections have consequences and Trump in his 2018 stump speech that a consequence of Democrat victories would be renewed attacks on the Second Amendment. New Jersey’s ban on high-capacity magazines has been upheld by a federal court, opening the door to door knock gun confiscation and making off-duty police officers subject to criminal prosecution. The inmates are officially running the asylum.

Now, we can hope the state politicians see reason and follow the suggested course of action.

With help from folks at Colorado Parks and Wildlife, we sifted through several records and reports to better understand the state’s world of hunting. It's shrinking, by the way. The nation had 11.5 million hunters in 2016, down 2.2 million from 2011 and down about 6 million since the early 1980s, reports the National Survey of Hunting, Fishing, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation.

Well, this was coming. If Democrats retaking the House wasn’t bad enough this year, the anti-gun trash they’re going to be spewing is probably going to be an even more insufferable event. The Left’s economic agenda is tax and spend. It’s riddled with regulations. Consumer and small business confidence could drop. It could usher in the Pelosi crash, but first—they need to lay the groundwork to the destruction of the Second Amendment (via Politico).

As the capital of the Virginia colony and later the fledgling Commonwealth, Williamsburg has had a long history as a repository of firearms. Its beginning was as a military outpost and depot on the then-frontier of the British Empire. In 1715, after it had become the colony’s capital, a magazine was built to house royal arms and powder. During the Revolutionary War, James Anderson’s blacksmith shop in the city would employ 40 men, many of whom worked repairing arms for the Continental Army.

A shift in the balance of power at the state Capitol has boosted the odds of lawmakers passing bills to reduce gun violence during the upcoming legislative session. The Democratic takeover of the Minnesota House includes so many freshmen who support tougher gun laws that staunch gun control opponents now consider the chamber to be hostile territory. The Senate, where the GOP maintains a one-vote majority, remains a question mark, though the chamber's top Republican, Majority Leader Paul Gazelka of Nisswa, has signaled "some openness" to discussing gun proposals that got blocked in previous sessions.
