Anti-gun leftists have long maintained that the Second Amendment only references a militia’s right to bear arms. So when your state proposes onerous gun-control laws, accompanied by an unofficial threat to use the National Guard to enforce them, what do you do?

If you’re a group of smart patriots, you form a militia.

One thing is becoming more and more clear – the legislative and political arenas are now only part of the overall battle over our Second Amendment rights. While Second Amendment supporters have done well in those arenas, including making the Supreme Court reasonably pro-Second Amendment, the new arenas threaten to outflank the gains in the political and legislative arenas.

Well, sometimes. Here is a light-hearted look at some of the boo-boos that have been made along the way. Others will undoubtedly occur to you.

Changes made two years ago to Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” self-defense law that switched the burden of proof cannot be applied retroactively, the state’s high court ruled Thursday.

The long-anticipated ruling affects several Floridians who face charges after losing their initial “stand your ground” hearings, in which they had to prove they were acting in self-defense when using force.

The SIG Sauer MPX will be the perfect gift for anybody you know who is looking for a highly effective close quarters self-defense weapon. Originally released in 2015 as a submachine gun with both fully automatic and semi-automatic firing capabilities, the MPX C is a semi-automatic only version that is legal to own by American civilians, and also has a longer barrel for a longer sight radius and better bullet velocity.

The Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved declaring the county a “Second Amendment sanctuary” at its Dec. 9 meeting.

Fauquier County supervisors will consider a resolution that takes a tougher stand in support of gun ownership rights when they reconvene at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23.

The resolution -- reworked since a Dec. 12 meeting that drew a crowd of 2,000 -- states that the board “reaffirms its oath of office to support and defend the United States and Virginia constitutions and stands as a constitutional county with the overwhelming number of Constitutional and sanctuary counties throughout the commonwealth of Virginia.” Those counties oppose legislation infringing upon the right to keep and bear arms.

Gun store owner Jason Hyrczyk's phone ringtone of gunfire says it all.

"It's part of our American heritage," said Hyrczyk, owner of Blacked Out Arms in St. Germain. "That's why we're different than any other country. It guarantees our freedoms."

Hyrczyk strongly supports the second amendment, and agrees with the town board members who proposed a resolution to make St. Germain a second amendment sanctuary.

If Pelosi Lies About Youth Gun Deaths, What Else Is She Fibbing About?

“Fact Checker Glenn Kessler plays no favorites,” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “and when he slaps Pelosi with four ‘Pinocchios’ for repeatedly using a canard, she’s got it coming.”

Pelosi has repeatedly claimed that 100 people die every day from “gun violence,” and asserted that 47 of them are children and teens. But the Washington Post did some math, noting that 60 percent of firearms-related deaths are suicides, and wrote “It seemed strange that so many children would be killing themselves with guns.” The newspaper checked data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and concluded Pelosi was way off base, yet she has repeated the false narrative.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey joined a 21-state coalition in supporting the fundamental right of its citizens to keep and bear arms.

The coalition urges the U.S. Supreme Court to clarify that state laws cannot prevent a law-abiding citizen from carrying a firearm outside of his or her home. The coalition’s recent brief argues the passage of such a law violates the Second Amendment.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey of Brevard County, Florida, has a strong message to impart in what he calls a strategy for survival. In a video, he warned citizens, “This is war, and you’d better be prepared to wage war to protect you, your family, and those around you.” The police usually recommend calling 911 in an emergency rather than fighting. But not Ivey. He suggests people be prepared; anyone with a concealed carry permit, he says, should be armed at all times.

County Mayor Joe Brooks will be drafting a letter requesting that the state legislators think twice before adopting any new laws that could infringe upon the citizens’ Constitutional right to “bear arms.”

The Claiborne Commission voted unanimously to adopt resolution 2019-092 during its regular monthly meeting on Dec. 16. As written, the resolution provides a “safe haven” by declaring Claiborne a “Second Amendment Sanctuary County.”

West Milford has become one of the first towns in New Jersey to declare itself a "sanctuary" for law-abiding gun owners.

A non-binding resolution, which was approved unanimously on Dec. 4 by the township council, designates the Passaic County community a "Second Amendment/lawful gun owner sanctuary township."

About 47,000 firearms have been collected, with another 2,000 modified to become lawful, New Zealand police figures show.

But a government-commissioned assessment by KPMG estimated the number of banned guns could be between 50,000 and 170,000. If the median of that range were correct, more than half of the prohibited firearms would be unaccounted for; the precise figure is unknown because New Zealand until this year lacked a registry for military-style semi-automatics.

VA: We need to have a civil discussion about gun control

What is especially disturbing to me is the fact that we can’t have a civil discussion about gun control. The reason we can’t have that discussion is that the NRA does not respect the right of Virginians to make their own decisions.

I pray that the two sides will sit down together and have a civil conversation (without input from outside forces like the NRA, which has a financial agenda that has nothing to do with the wishes of ordinary people) about what limitations, if any, they think are appropriate and beneficial for the people of this commonwealth as a whole.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"You seem ... to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all contitutional questions; a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy... The Contitution has erected no such single tribunal." --Thomas Jefferson, 1820
