"'I am the Ghost of Gun Rights Present,' said the Spirit."

Prosecutors won't file charges against an Omaha business owner who shot and killed a suspected burglar over the weekend.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says he believes the shooting was justified. The owner of Bazar Latino who shot the man has not been named.

The owner told officers he fired his gun during a confrontation with a suspected burglar, who then fled.

The student faces a 15-day out-of-school suspension, though officials could reduce that to five days under certain conditions. Superintendent Pam Homan will review a report from Ryswyk's office.

A 24-year-old Nebraska man has been sentenced to 8 1/2 months in federal prison for having an unregistered machine gun.

Aaron Lawless of Kearney was sentenced last week in Lincoln's federal court.

Prosecutors say a Nebraska State Patrol trooper found two homemade machine guns in Lawless' car after the trooper stopped Lawless on Nov. 25, 2008, for speeding. Authorities say neither gun bore a serial number, and neither was registered to Lawless or a passenger in his car.

Authorities say Lawless acknowledged shooting the guns earlier that day near Cozad, and told officials he knew the machine guns were homemade.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing)
