... "Realizing the terrible choice gun owners face, CCDL, which 'is helping to lead the legal challenge of the new law along with other plaintiffs,' made the required forms available to those who 'wish to be in compliance.' That prompted recollections from this correspondent about when California gun owners were faced with a similar dilemma -- to obey or not -- 13 years ago, and how some chose compliance, others quiet defiance, and a very few made their refusal public."

"That raises a key question for gun owners opting for obedience: If an order is later given to surrender your registered firearms, will you also obey that? ..." ...

... "But do not misunderstand me. I am not criticizing the media for covering this issue. I believe that this issue justifies the amount of coverage it is receiving. On the one hand, you have members of the LGBT community who feel that A&E is providing a forum for someone who holds their very existence in disdain. On the other hand, you have Christians who believe that their voice in American culture is being systematically stifled."

"With today being Festivus, ’tis the season for the airing of grievances. So along those lines, a certain member of my family was thoroughly outraged when Dick Metcalf was fired for his article that was widely viewed by the people of the gun as taking a soft approach to the encroachment of gun control. Apparently MSNBC had singled out RF for his opinion on the matter and she concluded that it was all Robert’s fault that Metcalf was fired. "I predicted it a couple of weeks ago, and sure enough it happened: Democrats used the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Massacre to have another go at gun control. I don’t mean to suggest I’ve said anything remotely groundbreaking here; to predict something this patently, ridiculously, supernaturally inevitable would be arguably the least impressive declaration in history. Going a full week without predicting the winner of the 2038 Super Bowl would be a comparative jaw-dropper." ...

"The 300 AAC Blackout cartridge was designed specifically for the AR-15 platform. The idea was to create something that will cycle the rifle’s action in both supersonic and subsonic flavors without changing any parts, and have a round that uses the same bolt and gas system as the original 5.56 version. It’s perfect for that platform, but when you start moving to other weapon systems the benefits of the round start to fade away. Which is why a bolt action rifle in 300 BLK had me scratching my head . . ." ...

"It’s ironic. The writer who penned The Great American Gun Violence Lottery for huffingtonpost.com is a law professor at Lewis & Clark College. Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark left civilization to explore North America’s western-most reaches. They faced any number of lethal threats: disease, starvation, injury, exposure, animal attack and native Americans’ ire, to name a few. Professor Erin Ryan [above] seems to share the explorers’ perspective: shit happens. But she fails to embrace the second part of that equation: deal with it. Personally. Instead, she celebrates statism, starting with a story . . ." ...

"Your article on gun rights blogger Dan Zimmerman ('Why is a nice guy like Dan being boss of a very pro-gun website?' Dec. 13) was an ominous warning about the power of misinformation spread by conservative gun advocates. Mr. Zimmerman repeats their mantra that gun-free zones are a major cause of mass shootings, and when talking about the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre, suggests that arming school personnel is a solution. But some safety experts disagree, fearing that inexperienced civilians will put students at risk. Trained police accidentally shot nine bystanders in an incident at the Empire State Building in August 2012. I doubt that school personnel would be more accurate marksmen." ...
