... "Characterizing the committee’s actions as a 'rush toward unnecessary conflict' and referring to such litigation as 'unnecessary and premature,' the petitioners ignore official stonewalling now measured in years, documented lies submitted to congressional investigators, and the deliberate indifference shown by Cummings and other Oversight Democrats when publicly asked to look into allegations of waste, abuse, corruption and fraud by [ATF] management long before the public had ever heard about Fast and Furious. Had they provided such high-profile scrutiny, there is every possibility gunwalking attempts would not have been dared, and those killed as a result might still be alive." ...

"'A House Democrat is pushing a package of gun reforms that a recent poll indicates are popular among members of the National Rifle Association (NRA),' thehill.com reports. 'Representative Jim Moran (D-Va.) said the legislation ... will highlight what he calls a disconnect between NRA members and the group’s leaders, who are in near-blanket opposition to tougher gun laws.' There’s the latest strategy from the gun control industry: marginalize the NRA, divide American gun owners and conquer. It’s not a bad plan (for them). But where is it coming from? History is our guide. Let’s start with voting . . ."

To buy ammunition, you’d need to submit an application with a fee (which will be up to $50), and wait up to 30 days while the state conducts a background check. "After the Sandy Hook school shooting, as well as after other shootings, those of us who are skeptical about gun controls are often asked: So what are we suggesting should be done about the shootings? If we’re not suggesting gun controls (as opposed to proposals such as allowing teachers to be armed, increased concealed carry rights outside schools, providing school guards, and the like), the argument goes, we’re not taking gun tragedies seriously."

"That anti-gun politicians would have the appalling, cynical audacity to shamelessly exploit the murdered children of Sandy Hook Elementary School for their 'gun control' agenda is, sadly, not at all unexpected. "Since the horrific shootings at Sandy Hook, the usual debate around gun control has taken on a new facet that threatens rights in addition to those guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Those on both sides of the pro- and anti-gun rights argument have increasingly focused at least part of their attention on one misunderstood minority: people who suffer from mental illness. The idea is beginning to take hold that individuals who have some form of mental illness are now as much a contributing factor to mass shootings as the accessibility of the weapons themselves . . ." ...

Much has been written about this since the Newtown murders; one such commentary that I ran across noted that in the Dred Scott decision, Chief Justice Taney wrote that if Negroes had the rights of citizens, it would entail the ability to bear arms–a frightful prospect to Taney, a loyal Democrat. If ... you dare to suggest that the public at large would not be less safe but safer if more law-abiding citizens were allowed to carry concealed handguns; if you refuse to acknowledge what is so patently obvious to your enlightened betters living in colonies along both coasts ... then you are an abettor in the slaughter of children and deserving of public scorn if not imprisonment and even death." ...

"That increase in gun sales following the Newtown shooting might have had a little bit to do with Christmas season, as a lot of people are flaunting their new firearms on social media today, a trend first-noticed by The Verge's T.C. Sottek. As the AR-15 is a popular rifle of choice these days both for consumers and murderers, we decided to take a look at all the brand-new owners of that make of semi-automatic. Some have suggested the increase in sales had to do with fears that gun control will soon take these off the shelves. Or maybe all the talk about Bushmaster and guns inspired these Christmas gifts. No matter the motivation, as Sottek notes, the 'sales boost appears to have manifested under the Christmas tree.' ..." ...

"Long range scopes don’t really come in 'one size fits all' configurations. You need to get your hands on the scope, try it out, and see what works best for your own particular shooting style. Bushnell isn’t making that process easier, what with their rather daunting combination of tube size, magnification range and reticle choice, so when I picked one to test for a review, I wasn’t exactly sure of what I was getting. ... "The Second Amendment was apt for its day, a shrewd mix of freedom ('the right to keep and bear arms') and duty (the 'well-regulated militia' clause). But it was meant for the realities of American life over two centuries ago. The country, 90 percent rural, had no standing army. And available 'arms' were pretty much limited to muzzle-loading muskets that took the typical shooter a full minute to load and get off a single shot."

"In response to my last post, a call for repeal of the Second Amendment, one reader wrote that the Newtown slaughter was a 'small price to pay' for the preservation of Americans' constitutional freedoms. ..." ...

... "The tobacco control movement overcame some equally powerful mythology to fundamentally alter American attitudes toward tobacco products. The tobacco industry's effort to sow confusion and uncertainty about the link between smoking and disease eventually was exposed as a fraud. The entrenched view that smoking was simply a bad habit that individuals can choose to break was destroyed by evidence that the tobacco companies knew that nicotine was powerfully addictive ... The assumption that smoking harms only the smoker was contradicted by the overwhelming evidence of the danger of second-hand smoke."

He's admitted to this; regardless, since his inauguration, he's been strident on gun control, siding with Mayor Bloomberg on the need for more regulation in Albany and Washington. And that attention ramped up after Newtown: Cuomo declared that our national gun obsession was 'fundamentally a federal matter' but 'loopholes' remained in state laws." ...

"Also, the Governor seeks another provision in Albany: limiting magazines to seven bullets a clip. If passed, it will be the strictest limit on actual bullets our nation has ever seen. ..." ...

"To Whom It May Concern,"

"It has come to my attention that the [ATF] is considering further restrictions for various types of ammunition used in both rifles and handguns as they pertain to the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968. I am personally concerned that further restrictions on commonly used ammunition would represent a serious breach of the intended scope of the original limitations set forth under the laws created in the Gun Control Act. ..." ...

Stacked together under a stand of trees are blankets, jackets, food, water, binoculars and bales of marijuana from Mexico wrapped in burlap. The smugglers, themselves, are nowhere in sight and are believed to have fled the area, which is about 10 miles north of the Mexican border." ...

"A judge today found former State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh officer Tory Kelly guilty on four criminal counts related to inmate abuse, and not guilty on 10, following a week-long non-jury trial.

The four counts for which Mr. Kelly now faces sentencing March 20 are simple assault, official oppression, terroristic threats and intimidation of a witness. ..."

F Block is the scene for what investigators said was systematic abuse of inmates viewed as pedophiles, or the genesis for what defense attorneys suggest is a massive conspiracy to smear guards." ...

"The American left, led by the president, has used this sickening event in Newtown to try to take the first steps toward repealing the Second Amendment. I am not a gun owner, but I do recognize that there are people who live in rural areas who indeed should be allowed to carry weapons for the protection of their families or pets. I do agree that we don’t need machine guns or AR-15s to accomplish this."

"My problem is that knowing the agenda of the left, they would not stop there ..." ...

"I take exception to the tasteless and ignorant cartoon on the opinion page of the Daily News on Wednesday morning, and to the editorial taken from the Northwest Florida Daily News."

"The NRA is not the creator of our Second Amendment, nor is it responsible for the current gun violence. They and other pro-Second Amendment groups are the defenders of our right to self-protection when the government seeks to disarm its citizens."

"That right was intelligently recognized by the founding fathers, who knew the importance of an armed citizenry, the evils of a standing army and the right of every individual to self-protection." ...
