"What is clear is the promise of a reward and the guarantee that the person receiving it will not have to provide their name lends itself to the potential for abuse. Not only could gangland competitors be effectively removed, an opportunistic criminal could reap rewards for phoning such a calculated tip in, including the possibility of exploiting unsuspecting police to permanently eliminate reported rivals. Also unstated is what safeguards are in place to ensure rogue law enforcement officers don’t themselves create a tip to do an end run around Fourth Amendment protections, artificially establishing phony 'probable cause' opportunities for stops, searches and seizures that would otherwise not present themselves." |

“To assert that the property owners of Ferguson do not have the right to invite the Oath Keepers to assist them would be tantamount to telling an individual that they do not have the right to assist a neighbor in need. Additionally the property owners and Oath Keepers have numerous other Rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution including the right to freely assemble which may not be restricted by any County Ordinance or State Statute.” |

The federal courts would never uphold a law requiring people to show “good cause” before they could speak in public or march in a parade. It would be a violation of our First Amendment rights. Yet an ongoing court battle examines whether similar rules regarding the carrying of firearms is an equally outrageous violation of the Second Amendment.
The case started in 2008 in San Diego County, when Edward Peruta and other gun owners challenged San Diego County’s process for issuing concealed-carry permits. State law gives sheriffs the power to determine “good cause” – and San Diego County required documentation showing the applicant faced some sort of specific threat to merit one. |

A man is dead following a shooting Wednesday morning in Washington County.
According to the sheriff's office, around 8:00AM, two women, and Curt Gregory Cowart, 53, got into an altercation outside a business near Chappell Hill on Highway 290 just east of Brenham.
That's when the sheriff's office says one of the women feared for her and the other woman's lives.
"During the altercation one of the females retrieved a pistol from her purse in self defense, in what appears to be self defense she shot the male subject one time in the chest cavity," Washington County Sgt. Mark Whidden said. |

Some days, usually after reading the newspaper, it’s the only thing that makes sense: head to your local gun shop and load up with as much gear as you can carry. Now, before you think old Elliott has gone off the deep end with all this doom and gloom, take a moment to reflect on the world’s condition.
On any given day, an American can pick up the post and see direct evidence of an all-out effort to disarm law-abiding US citizens who simply wish to exercise the rights they have guaranteed under the Second Amendment to our Constitution. |

In their quest to expand background checks for gun owners nationwide, gun-control advocates have resorted to targeting the mentally ill in states.
Each year, dozens of states track mentally ill citizens and report them to a federal database of criminals who are prohibited from buying guns.
Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety, a national gun-control group that seeks universal background checks, keeps a running tally of those states, hoping to shame ones that don’t snitch on citizens receiving treatment for mental illness. |

Last week, residents of Ferguson, Missouri might have noticed a strange sight amidst the scenes of burning buildings, overturned cars, crazed rioters, and police in full military dress. Standing stoically on the rooftops of buildings in areas threatened by prolonged rioting were men dressed in masks and camouflage, armed with buckets of water, fire extinguishers, and occasionally AR-15 rifles.
These men were not members of the Ferguson Police Department or the Missouri National Guard. They were members of the Oath Keepers, a nationwide collective of military veterans, former law enforcement officers, first responders and other concerned citizens who have sworn an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. |

The case started during the holidays in 2011 as an Indiana family drove on a highway in Osceola County.
But nearly three years later, that drive—the kind taken by countless visitors to the Orlando area—led Tuesday to the Florida Supreme Court grappling with questions about the state's controversial "stand your ground" self-defense law.
Jared Bretherick, a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm after brandishing a gun while in a confrontation with a motorist who had cut the family off in traffic.

The Russian manufacturer of the AK-47 assault rifle has unveiled a new look for its guns, as well as a new logo, at a glitzy event in Moscow.
The company is also branching out into fashion, launching a line of branded survival gear.
The firm, which relies heavily on the export market, is among the targets of Western sanctions imposed over Russia's role in the Ukraine conflict.
The Kalashnikov, or AK-47, is one of the world's most recognisable weapons. |

As a kid, I opened carried all the time. How else was I supposed to get my shotgun, my .22 rifle or my BB-gun down to the area where we’d be shooting? Back then, it didn’t matter so much; but times have changed…and, in some ways, not for the better.
When I lived in Jerusalem, I saw a lot of people carrying their firearms openly. I was fine with that. I’ve seen handfuls of people in the US who open carry, too, although it’s much more rare, outside the occasional protest.

Des Moines, IA (ABC5 News) Figures from the National Retail Federation show 5.1 million fewer shoppers went out on Black Friday compared to last year, despite many major retailers adding Thanksgiving hours.
While many sales declined, gun sales did just the opposite.
The FBI saw the highest number of background checks ever for a Black Friday. The grand total for the day was more than 175,000 checks, compared to last year’s 144,000. More than 600 FBI workers worked 17 hour days to take all of the calls from around the nation. |

Countless others safely carry sidearms for the same reason, without any red-tape government paperwork, under the freedom of Constitutional Carry, for four years now.
Yet the front page today says, as usual, “police and criminologists don’t have an explanation for the dip” in homicides that statistics keep showing. What’s wrong with these people? If they can’t see the most obvious evidence in their faces, after decades of effort and success, what else are these so-called experts missing?
Innocent people are armed against crime, shooting ranges and trainers are busy educating the public, crime drops, and “officials” don’t recognize any results. |

Last year, state lawmakers passed the Maryland Firearm Safety Act of 2013 - one of the toughest gun control laws in the country.
The law bans 45 assault weapons, limits gun magazines to 10 rounds and requires potential gun owners to submit fingerprints to State Police.
"You don't have to have a driver's license to vote, but you have to have fingerprints to buy a handgun - so people don't like idea," said Michael Faith, marketing director at Hendershot's Sporting Goods Inc. in Hagerstown. |

WDFW is the “State of Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife”. The volunteer instructors to WDFW are considered “law enforcement” or else they would not receive the the exemption described above. And notice that students are not allowed to transfer the guns between themselves. They must transfer the gun to an instructor who then transfers it to another student.
Private instructors, such as myself, would not have an exemption unless we were at an “authorized range” (“authorized” is undefined). We cannot do classroom work than involves gun handling at any other location than an “authorized” range. Even then it is in doubt unless we are using the guns that are “kept at all times” at the range. |

Jeff Stucker, co-owner of On Target indoor shooting range and gun shop in South Asheville, says his sales of ARs have "come to a screeching halt," but not because people no longer want the rifles.
"The market is saturated. The market is flooded with them," said Stucker. "Everybody ramped up, thinking they were going to be outlawed, and lo and behold they weren't."
In a recent opinion piece in American Rifleman, a publication of the National Rifle Association, NRA President James W. Porter II argued that the ubiquity of the AR-15 rifle in America has essentially made it very difficult to outlaw, as was the case with handguns. |

“If I owned a business, I would want to protect my employees by making it clear that you can’t openly carry” guns in the store, Davis said.
Davis added that she supports the Second Amendment right to bear arms. “I come from a gun-owning, hunting family … my husband is a veteran,” she said. “I can’t find a single (family member) who feels the need to take a rifle with them when they go to the grocery store.”
Melinda Merrill, a spokeswoman for Fred Meyer who received the petition and signatures, said Tuesday, “Our policy is that we follow local laws. So if it’s allowed in the municipality where our store is, then we follow the local law.” |
