"A changing concealed-carry bill still puts the gun lobby before law enforcement. That isn't a formula for safety"

"In the Ohio Senate, lawmakers have been maneuvering this week to make more palatable legislation that would dramatically expand the carrying of concealed weapons. This wooing should be resisted. The changes may sound good. They should not obscure the fundamental reason for rejecting the misguided legislation: More people carrying guns means less safety, not more." ...

"The controversial Homeland Security Act was recently approved by the Senate and President Bush. What does this mean for Americans? It means that, if one man deems it necessary, we can all now be forced to receive immunizations -- no personal, religious or medical exemptions allowed -- and refusing to accept them is punishable by fine and imprisonment. Moreover, as it stands the bill protects pharmaceutical companies from potential liability in vaccine-related injury lawsuits." ...

This is laughable. The sheeple will line up like cowardly lemmings -- mooney-eyed glazed looks on their automatonic faces -- but Patriots will never comply.

This is a great exploration of so-called "campaign finance reform", using the attacks on NRA to justify the squashed political speech as an example of why McCain-Feingold's legislation was wrong and unAmerican.
-------
"There's a problem in the land, or so said the so-called reformers. Powerful organizations, they told us, are taking over our politics. They are drowning out the voice of the people. Democracy is in peril unless we can reconstitute our campaign finance laws to shut these organizations up when elections draw nigh. Need an example? They had one they loved to trot out — the National Rifle Association." ...

"Homicides in the United States are more common in states where more households own guns, according to researchers."

" 'The study findings imply that guns, on balance, lethally imperil rather than protect Americans,' lead study author Dr. Matthew Miller of Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts, told Reuters Health." ...

" 'This inference is consistent with previous...studies that have found that the presence of a gun in the home is a risk factor for homicide, and starkly at odds with the unsubstantiated, yet often adduced, notion that guns are a public good,' he added." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
[The American Colonies were] all democratic governments, where the power is in the hands of the people and where there is not the least difficulty or jealousy about putting arms into the hands of every man in the country. [European countries should not] be ignorant of the strength and the force of such a form of government and how strenuously and almost wonderfully people living under one have sometimes exerted themselves in defence of their rights and liberties and how fatally it has ended with many a man and many a state who have entered into quarrels, wars and contests with them. — George Mason, "Remarks on Annual Elections for the Fairfax Independent Company" in The Papers of George Mason, 1725-1792, ed Robert A. Rutland (Chapel Hill, 1970).
