Some of us turned off the news for a few weeks after the last election. I’ve noticed a series of unexpected pleasant surprises during that time. The seeds of serendipity were planted long before the midterm campaigns began.

You changed the world in new ways. You made our schools safer. You made our churches safer in ways we could not have imagined a few years ago.

You changed hearts and minds.

Laws that allow people to use deadly force when threatened — without requiring them to first retreat — have been sweeping across the nation for over a decade. Today, depending on your definition, “stand your ground” is law in well over half of American states.

...

And so far-right gun groups have adopted an effective strategy to advance their cause: using targeted campaigning to knock out state politicians who don’t pass their strict gun rights purity tests, even those who get plaudits from the National Rifle Association.

A federal appeals court on Wednesday ruled that a New Jersey law banning the sale of high-capacity magazines in the state does not violate the Constitution, handing a victory to gun control advocates and the state's attorney general.

The three-judge panel said in their ruling that the law limiting the size of a magazine to 10 rounds did not violate the constitutionally protected right of New Jersey residents to self defense and did not present an undue burden for gun owners who currently own magazines that would become illegal under the new law, citing their ability to obtain new magazines or register guns that cannot be modified to hold 10 shots or less.

"Unfortunately, Mr. Powell lost his life as a result of trying to commit an armed robbery," said Lt. Freddie Williams with the Moultrie Police Department.

One of two clerks was shot in the leg, but was released from the hospital late Tuesday.

Police say a second gunman, 18-year-old Joshua Sims, and a teenager have been arrested. They're now facing felony murder for their involvement in Powell's death.

They say the clerk is likely protected under Georgia's Stand Your Ground law for acting in self defense. Local homeowners said they would have defended themselves, too.

The stage is set for a vote in the Senate on the so-called Stand Your Ground bill Thursday. All that needs to happen is for the final details of the bill to be worked out.

The Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee still needs to add last minute amendments and vote the bill out at a hearing scheduled for the morning.

At this point, barring any major dissent in the Republican caucus, the committee chairman says that vote is likely to happen.

Wednesday both supporters and opponents of the bill testified after hours of testimony were given the previous evening by opponents of the bill.

Missouri’s “stand your ground” statute is one of the broadest in the nation. But this much is clear: The law does not allow people to use force to protect property unless they reasonably believe their life is threatened.

DeAndre Simms found that out the hard way, unfortunately. The 24-year-old Kansas City man is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action for allegedly shooting a man who was trying to steal his car.

A Superior Court judge has dismissed the last pending legal challenge to stricter gun laws that were enacted following the deadly mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

A disabled New London man had sued Gov. Dannel P. Malloy claiming the expansion of the state’s ban on military-style assault weapons and the imposition of a 10-round limit for ammunition magazines violated his rights under the Connecticut Constitution.

Judge Shari Murphy granted the state’s motion for summary judgment in a Nov. 30 ruling, finding Scott Ennis had legal standing to challenge the 2013 laws, but the doctrine of sovereign immunity barred Ennis from suing Malloy.

Senate Bill 12, would recognize the rights of a law-abiding Oklahoma residents’ unconditional Right to Keep and Bear Arms for self-defense in the manner he or she chooses. Self-defense situations are difficult, if not impossible, to anticipate. Accordingly, law-abiding adults’ right to defend themselves in such situations should not be conditioned by government-mandated time delays and taxes.

Governor-Elect Kevin Stitt has promised to sign this important self-defense legislation when it makes it to his desk in 2019. Please contact your state Senator and strongly urge them to support Senate Bill 12 when it comes up for a vote in the 2019 Legislative Session.

The Federal Hydra Shok Deep is the next evolution in the ever popular Hydra Shok line of defensive ammunition. In the release announcement earlier this year, Federal said that the new load was specifically developed for the FBI's updated testing protocol.

When the original Hydra Shok was released by Federal in 1989 in response to a request from the FBI for a bullet that performed better than the loads available at the time. Hydra Shok ammo saw wide acceptance by law enforcement and self-defense shooters as a result of the ammo's performance.

We have less than two weeks left before the Senate adjourns for the Christmas Holiday.

...

The Senate Judiciary Committee has been sitting on the bill that was sent to Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell, last December 2017, when it passed the Republican-controlled House. The version of national concealed handgun carry reciprocity that passed the House is designated, 115 H.R. 38, “Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017.” Once Senator McConnell received it, he sent it immediately to the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Charles Grassley, for action. No work was done on it, and a year has gone by since the Judiciary Committee had received it.

Yet, according to witnesses, EJ did everything right. He was trying to help other shoppers get away. He was a law-abiding citizen who had a concealed carry permit and, thus, the legal right to have a gun in his possession at the mall. Within days, after the official story had unraveled and protesters took to the streets, Alabama state law enforcement tracked down the man they now say was the real shooter.

Does the Second Amendment Protect Only White Gun Owners?

The most common refrain from gun rights supporters in the wake of mass shootings or other gun violence is that the best response to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Yet in recent weeks, we have seen two Black men, a group already disproportionately victimized by police use of lethal force, shot and killed by police while protecting those around them with guns they were legally allowed to carry.

Ed.: While the problem is real, this is pretty rich coming from the ACLU which doesn't even believe the 2A protects white gun owners.

Vermont and Florida, both states with GOP governors, increased the age to purchase all firearms, including long guns, to 21. The anti-gun movement has clinched some wins, but South Dakota could be the next state to adopt a constitutional carry. Republican Congresswoman Kristi Noem won the state’s gubernatorial race this year and said that concealed carry without permits could be on the table

How Much Blood Would Leftists Be Willing To Shed To Disarm Patriotic Americans?

My question for Congressjerk Eric Swalwell is pretty simple: “How many Americans would you murder to achieve your goal of disarming us?”

It’s a fair question.

Swalwell is the MSNBC stalwart who recently wrote an op-ed advocating that the government confiscate the guns that make people like him wet themselves and imprison those of us who decline to surrender them. Millions of Americans own these basic tools of freedom, which the ignorant call “assault weapons,” and these loyal citizens keep and bear them to protect themselves, their families, their communities and their Constitution.

OH: Ohio’s proposed ‘Stand Your Ground’ bill moves closer to vote in Senate

NAACP leaders across the state are rallying against a proposed “Stand Your Ground” gun bill that is being debated in the Ohio Senate.

The bill could receive a vote on the Senate floor this week. Dozens packed into the Ohio Senate Committee hearing Tuesday night to express concerns about HB228. It was the second day of testimony that will continue through Thursday. Several Republican senators were noticeably absent from that hearing.

If the bill is passed it would eliminate a person’s “duty to retreat” if they feel their life is in danger, allowing the individual to protect themselves by using deadly force. The NAACP is calling the legislation a public safety threat.
