"Eight more innocent Americans have been sacrificed on the altar of political correctness at Omaha's Westroads Mall this week, and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today that the real outrage of this crime is that it happened in a 'gun free zone' where law-abiding private citizens are disarmed by mall rules and state statute."
"'In the wake of this horrible crime,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, 'gun control extremists are already demanding more useless gun control legislation. A prohibition on firearms at Westroads Mall did not stop Robert Hawkins, but it did give him a risk-free environment in which to unleash his rampage.'" ... |

, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms strongly encourages the U.S. Senate to reject confirmation of Michael Sullivan as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives until he demonstrates responsible leadership."
"While we have admired Mr. Sullivan’s no-nonsense opposition to attempts by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others to gain sweeping access to sensitive BATFE firearms trace data, we are alarmed at what appear to be significant abuses of authority by BATFE agents under his command. The BATFE is an agency in serious need of reform, and we are not confident Mr. Sullivan can accomplish such reform, based on agency conduct under his term as acting director." ... |

"Many years ago, cartoonist Rex F. 'Baloo' May and I tried to sell a daily comic strip to the newspaper syndicates called Atlantea the Beautiful. Ostensibly, it was about the final days before Atlantis sank beneath the waves, but it was actually a satire of contemporary American politics, being written and drawn during the George H.W. Bush Administration."
"What's significant about it is the way we portrayed the Atlantean Supreme Court: nine old men in black dresses sitting atop a giant slot machine, as lawyers below jump up absurdly to pull the lever. Judging from the reactions in the media to the real court's decision to accept a case about the right to own and carry weapons, Rex and I were spot on." ... |

"Nine dead thanks to a micro gun ban policy. A gun ban."
"Bans on school campus and in Malls, workplace and other locales are nothing but micro gun bans with tragic results as gigantic as any other shooting. ... Nine dead for this kind of brilliance. In less than six minutes. Nine dead thanks to a gun ban. This is what we call Lip Service, where the results so obviously discredit the excuses."
"Public places need to understand that individuals bent on murder will not listen to their gun ban. They never do and they never will. Murderers do notice where a target-rich environment is unarmed and unable to stop them in the few moments they need to kill. The few short moments they need is a lot less than six minutes." ... |

"Yesterday Robert Hawkins, a troubled 19-year-old youth, walked into a mall in Omaha, Nebraska and opened fire with an assault rifle. In just minutes he killed eight people, wounded at least five more and then turned the gun on himself."
"News media across the country are now asking 'How safe are U.S. malls?' But the issue is not mall security, but rather easy access to assault weapons. The deadly shooting at an Omaha mall has touched off another debate about self-defense and gun protection.
After the Virginia Tech massacre left 33 dead, a group of college students formed the "Students for Concealed Carry on Campus."
They want universities to let licensed gun owners with concealed weapons permits bring those firearms on campus for self protection.
They believe more students with guns will stop future mass shootings before they start.
Every college in Kentucky currently bans weapons -concealed or otherwise - from campuses.
A University of Kentucky spokesman says that rule will not change. |

"At last week's Republican CNN/YouTube Debate, the four major topics for discussion were immigration, Iraq, the Second Amendment and America's financial situation. As contentious as each of those issues are, the most disconcerting answers came on questions regarding guns and gun laws. It seemed each candidate was trying to outgun his foes.
