"The Second Amendment Foundation is launching a nationwide television advertising effort, calling attention to 'Guns Save Lives Day' on Dec. 15 2013, in conjunction with Bill of Rights Day."

"SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb announced the campaign, noting that the organization has bought 'hundreds of thousands of dollars of air time' on Fox News, DISH TV, and Glenn Beck’s Blaze Network. He has also purchased air time on national conservative radio talk shows, SiriusXM satellite radio and major radio stations." ...

"Honey-toned Lock and Load Radio host Bill Frady writes:"

"I have just taken the time to view the No More Silence video agitprop that is coming from Moms Demand Action and Mayors Against Illegal Guns. It’s a perfect illustration if you ask me. Legs walking toward an un protected school with a sinister duffel bag swinging. Beautiful children and pensive adults re-living the 24/7 onslaught of “news” that was the coverage of that horrible attack on Sandy Hook. Everyone totally defenseless. Legs climb stairs, bag is discarded, door swings shut, time is up . . ."

"One of the ideas we hear for supporting gun control concerns the word 'militia' being used in the Second Amendment. Anti-gun advocates claim this word clearly shows the only constitutionally approved ownership of firearms guaranteed by the Second Amendment must be connected to the owner serving in a state militia — period."

"In fact, the Supreme Court, as recently as 2008 and 2010, affirmed that an individual’s right to own firearms cannot be constrained by either state or federal laws, or by requiring membership in a militia. So this particular basis for supporting gun ownership restrictions is simply opinion and is a moot point that has no basis in law." ...

"If the seemingly endless lines at Black Friday gun counters and the record firearms, ammunition and gun accessory sales posted for Cyber Monday are an accurate indicator, then Americans’ desire to exercise their Second Amendment rights is stronger than ever. That’s wonderful news."

"The downside is that many of these weapons will find their way into the hands of individuals with a very limited understanding of basic firearms mechanics and little in the way of formal firearms safety training. Luckily, there are ready solutions for both of these scenarios." ...

"'After a nearly yearlong effort to sell its gun business, Cerberus Capital Management LP is close to bringing on a minority investor and lender to the weapons maker to let some of its investors sell out, a person familiar with the matter said.' As wsj.com points out, Steven A. Feinberg’s minions have been looking to punt, indeed promising to punt The Freedom Group (TFG) for almost a year, after it was revealed that Newtown spree killer [redacted] used a Bushmaster AR-15 for his murderous spree. Spurred on by The California State Teachers Retirement System’s decision to pull some $15m out of the Freedom Group in protest. The sales process has been, shall we say, fraught. "The Firearms Coalition writes [via ammoland.com]:"

"Gun rights advocates around the country need to be on the lookout for an insidious new tactic being launched by Mike Bloomberg and his mercenary minions. The strategy: use the wide acceptance of the idea that the mentally ill should not have access to firearms, as a front for prohibiting a broad array of 'normal' people from possessing guns or ammunition. As with most things, the devil is in the details. What is mental illness? Who is mentally ill? How mentally ill must one be to warrant revocation of a fundamental human right? Who makes that determination? Who is 'normal,' and how 'normal' do they have to be to own guns? Recently . . ." ...

"The folks at the NPR program ‘Here & Now’ do a God-awful job at covering up their desire to cram new gun control regulations down the throats of Americans. They speak in calm and even tones, but everything from their choice of phrases to their choice of guests proves that they couldn’t care less about an impartial view on the day’s news. On Friday their guest was Paul Barrett, author of the recent GLOCK history, and together they mourned the lack of 'progress' on gun control in the United States following Newtown. And in trying to explain the failure of their civilian disarmament efforts, they fell back on some of the favorite (and widely disproven) groupthink of the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex . . ." ...

"As we approach the Newtown anniversary, everyone's going to weigh in with their thoughts about guns. Here's mine. I believe the NRA is more right than wrong in questioning the motives of many of the proponents of more gun control. They are correct when they say that just about all gun owners are responsible, law-abiding citizens who don't need to jump through yet more legal hoops in order to buy or own guns."

"At the same time, the NRA should ... keep their nose out of places where it doesn't belong. And one place the NRA doesn't belong is challenging the right of physicians to talk to patients about guns. The NRA's attempt to criminalize such efforts by physicians (docs versus Glocks) is both stupid and wrong. ..." ...

And the ranks of those who want easier access to guns — though far fewer than those who support expanding gun control — are at their highest level since Gallup began asking the question in 1990. Even when the public found some common ground, widely supporting expanded background checks for gun purchases, lawmakers could not agree."

"If the Second Amendment cannot be changed, then everyday folks have to make firearm suicides a public health issue."

"My best childhood friend lost her sister in 2010 to suicide by gun. Her sister completed the classes -- how to safely handle and store guns. The gun and the gun safety training were a gift from her husband. But depression does not follow gun safety rules. It runs its own course. It drives its victims to look for the first thing they can use to stop depression's insidious course of moodiness and emotional instability."

"My friend's sister had access to guns. ... Successful suicide is synonymous with suicide by guns. It assures its victim or aggressor that the job gets done." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Except that numerous studies have shown suicide rates are independent of method. When Canada tightened their gun laws several years back the antis made much of the drop in the firearm suicide rate while ignoring the fact that the non-firearm suicide rate increased to more than make up the difference.

"The Senate is expected to vote today on ... the 10-year extension of the 'Undetectable Firearms Act' passed last Tuesday in the House--nearly unopposed by the GOP and NRA, and actively supported by the ostensibly 'pro-gun' National Shooting Sports Foundation. Apparently believing that the American public had not yet been subjected to enough ridiculous fearmongering over the supposed 'undetectability' of firearms printed from plastic, ABC's Katie Couric ran a short segment on her show, 'Katie,' last week, titled, perhaps not surprisingly, 'The Dark Side of 3D Printers.'"

Now if you have a beef with your property tax, your county paycheck is shorter than you think it should be or that pothole on the street in front of your house keeps getting ignored, we now have the solution. "A recent letter claimed that NY’s SAFE Act creates criminals out of law-abiding citizens. The rationale behind this theory alleges that the SAFE Act, by requiring responsible gun ownership, ensures that only criminals will be beyond the reach of gun safety laws. Of course, such is not the case. Responsible gun ownership laws create responsible gun owners. Only a criminal can make a criminal." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that `if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration...that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." --Samuel Adams, speech in Boston, 1771
