"If you caught the Super Bowl on Sunday, you may have seen an ad featuring New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Tom Menino claiming they 'support the Second Amendment' but want to keep 'illegal guns' off the streets and 'save lives.'"

"The ad might appear innocuous, even laudable. After all, who doesn't want to keep guns out of the hands of criminals? However, the group sponsoring the ad, 'Mayors Against Illegal Guns,' is blatantly anti-gun and openly supports strict limits on the ability of all citizens — including law-abiders — to own and possess firearms." ...

"A Super-Bowl political ad by New York Mayor Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Menino asked President Obama to impose greater restrictions on legal gun owners, so guns would be kept out of the hands of criminals. He advised that Obama keep quiet, get re-elected then go push for disarming the American public." ...

"I’m not sure when the whole buying a firearm thing became something that makes you think you need a trenchcoat, dark sunglasses, and brown paper sacks. It seems even buying porn has become more respectable, if you believe what you read in the (liberal) papers. And the retail level is not the only place where guns are considered a less-than-publicly-acceptable endeavor. Did you know that many sites (including Google) won’t accept most ads for guns? Or that here at TTAG, we’re unable to get an account with ad networks like Google’s AdWords, because they feel as though guns are unsavory? Yep. In many ways, the whole gun culture thing has turned honest manufacturers, merchants and customers into some sort of bunch of pariahs. Bizarre. ..." ...

"TTAG is no stranger to the M&P 45C. In fact, our boy Giao reviewed one back in July of 2011 and found it to be quite nice, save for some trigger shortcomings. I’m ignorant of most things pistol and self defense-related, but the M&Ps are mighty popular, especially with new shooters. So my take on the gun is through the eyes of a total noob. "You might wonder what the above confrontation has to do with you. The obvious lesson: if someone draws a gun on you, it's best to run, comply, de-escalate and/or attack. If you're going to charge a guy with a gun, don't wait for an engraved invitation. Here's something else to keep in mind: if it's the other way around, if you're aiming a gun at someone in self-defense, do not expect compliance. If someone is f’ed-up enough to want to threaten you or your loved ones with death or grievous bodily harm they are more than likely ready, willing and able to take swift and immediate violent action against your lethal threat. It doesn't matter if you're standing on your head or shooting the gun upside-down, as long as your trigger pull is smooth and straight to the rear while your sights are aligned, you'll hit your target every time." ...

"Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is expected Thursday to introduce a proposal he hopes Illinois lawmakers will take up: a new, statewide handgun registry."

"According to WBEZ, Emanuel's proposal will likely call on handgun owners to pay $65 to register each of the guns that they own, including information on the gun's owner, its make and model and where and when it was purchased, at the state level. The registration would be good for five years, at which point a renewal would cost $25."

"Gun owners and dealers would need to get in touch with Illinois State Police if a gun changes hands or is lost or stolen -- or else they would risk a misdemeanor charge. Those caught with an unregistered gun could face a felony charge, WBEZ reports." ...

"I'm tired of liberal comments about the National Rifle Association. I'm a proud life member of the NRA. The NRA supports Second Amendment rights. It doesn't want everyone to own a gun, but it says that all law-abiding citizens have a right to own a gun. People have the right to defend themselves. Law-abiding citizens don't want to shoot anyone but sometimes they have no choice. It's either them or you. Hunters donate thousands of pounds of meat to homeless shelters and soup kitchens." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
No kingdom can be secured otherwise than by arming the people. The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave. He, who has nothing, and who himself belongs to another, must be defended by him, whose property he is, and needs no arms. But he, who thinks he is his own master, and has what he can call his own, ought to have arms to defend himself, and what he possesses; else he lives precariously, and at discretion. — James Burgh, Political Disquisitions: Or, an Enquiry into Public Errors, Defects, and Abuses [London, 1774-1775].
