People who stand up to intruders shouldn't have to worry about being arrested for assault, the South Dakota Senate decided Friday.
Senators voted 30-1 for HB1134, which would make it clear that people may repel attackers and protect property against theft or damage.
The House passed the bill earlier, but it must be returned there for consideration of some Senate changes.
"We have the right to protect our property and ourselves, especially if there is a perceived threat of bodily harm," said Sen. Jim Lintz, R-Hermosa. |
