"Hint: It’s big money and jobs, and according to Ugo Gussalli Beretta, CEO and president of Beretta Holding, S.p.A. – whose family name has been associated with firearms manufacturing for 500 years – all of that is going to much friendlier real estate in Tennessee." ...

"My review of the new Remington R51 was fairly comprehensive. So comprehensive that RF decided that the text and photos comparing the R51 to other, relatively small carry guns was TMI. In particular, I wanted to compare the size and characteristics of the R51 to two handguns: the iconic GLOCK 19 and my Commander size 1911. So, let’s do it . . ." ...

"Is your non-suppressed AR or AK just not loud enough for your tastes? Are you tired of your shooting sessions not attracting enough attention from angry neighbors and sullen LEOs? Ares Armor and Snake Hound Machining have the answer to this question. And if you couldn’t hear the question, it’s probably because you’re already deaf . . ."

"The descriptively-monikered ‘Loudener’ is a single-chamber muzzle brake that doesn’t really give a crap about recoil reduction. It’s designed for only one purpose: maximum muzzle blast. As a free side-benefit, it also maximizes muzzle flash from your SBR, AR or AK pistols." ...

"To hear the dead-tree writers tell it, the Remington R51 is the greatest thing since Gaston Glock’s wundergun emigrated to the U.S. Over at American Rifleman, Mark Keefe extols the R51′s virtues without mentioning a single drawback. Guns & Ammo’s write-up is similarly glowing; the R51 got the author to 'see the light' about compact nines. The R51 sure looked nice from the spec sheet. But TTAG wasn’t on the guest list to Big Green’s all-expenses-paid junket in the desert to test Stage One guns ... The best we could do was a few minutes of fondling at Remington’s SHOT Show booth. And then, last week, the storied gunmaker shipped us a couple of R51′s. I soon discovered some serious issues. Let’s start with the good stuff . . ." ...

"It takes time to get the bugs out of a new product. This is true in the world of guns, cars, computer software, and any complicated consumer or industrial product. Hop into the TARDIS with me and I’ll illustrate my point. In 1983, I bought a BMW 318i. It was a brand new model in its first production year (nominally 1984, but they released the cars early). Mine was number 54 in the production run and probably arrived on the first boat from Bremen, which should have been enough of a warning . . ." ...

... "Already we encounter a serious logic problem. When talking about 'individuals who acquired the firearm through illicit means,' we are presumably referring to people who could not acquire firearms by licit means, by virtue of being a 'prohibited person' in the context of gun ownership ... Rep. Cassidy proposes to stop this, by requiring registration of firearms."

"Could it be that she is unaware that, as National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea observes, those prohibited from owning firearms--the very people Rep. Cassidy claims to be targeting with her registration bill--cannot be required to register firearms, because such a requirement would violate their right to refuse to incriminate themselves?" ...

"With medical costs due to gun violence rising rapidly and the human cost running in the thousands of casualties each year, it is time to re-examine the rights and responsibilities regarding firearms."

"First of all, the Second Amendment actually became moot in the early 20th century when the state militias were abolished and replaced by the National Guard, and the people who had served in the militias no longer had a need to keep and bear arms for this purpose. It would seem that the critical issue is not to keep and bear arms but rather the right to own firearms, which actually has been an inherent right with Americans from our earliest days. ..." ...

"That 50,000 figure could be as little as 15 percent of the rifles classified as assault weapons owned by Connecticut residents, according to estimates by people in the industry ... ... "Despite the years of comparative balance in the Kansas Legislature, as the power and financial resources of 'nonprofit' lobbying organizations such as the NRA and the powerful petroleum industry has grown, so have the campaign chests of issue-friendly candidates. ..."

"This influence has sometimes led to legislation that flies in the face of what seems beneficial to Kansas. Ignoring the wishes of the less extreme supporters of the Second Amendment, even the most reasonable of limitations on firearms have been cast aside, resulting in either oppressive costs to install metal detectors in ... public buildings unwilling to acquiesce to the law or acceptance of an unfettered policy of an open-/concealed-carrying public. ..." ...

"You might think the question would be settled by now, but the U.S. Supreme Court has yet to opine on whether the Second Amendment right to 'bear' arms for self-defense extends outside the home."

"We may soon get an answer. Lyle Denniston, writing for the Constitution Daily, reports about two gun rights cases that may get a hearing before the U.S. Supreme Court. Both cases, dealing with restrictions on the ability of minors to possess weapons in public, hinge on the difference between the right to 'keep' a gun and a right 'bear' one. ..." ...

"Californians are starting to feel the squeeze the microstamping bill that recently went into effect. For those of you not familiar, CA has an approved handgun list. This list limits which pistols can legally be purchased in the state of California, and as to be expected, this list is all about 'perceived safety.' The state charges gun manufacturers a ton of money to get on this list and then makes them submit the weapons for a drop test (btw, the weapons don't get returned)."

"Ultimately the point of this list is to slow the flow of handguns in to this state. ... CA's handgun roster list has now incorporated a new clause which requires that any pistol added to the list must be equipped with microstamping capabilities." ...

"California has a state law and regulatory scheme that arbitrarily bans handguns based on a roster of 'certified' handguns approved by the State."

"California uses this list despite a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that protects handguns that ordinary people traditionally use for self-defense, and a recent ruling by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments."

"I do not carry it to be tough or to start a fight; I carry it because it is my right and to protect the ones I love. Yet even with the welfare of others in mind, I am scrutinized and mocked for exercising my Second Amendment right."

"Wendy Davis’ support for expanding firearms laws in Texas to allow the open carrying of handguns bothers me, but not for the political reasons my colleague Mike Hashimoto makes in this column."

"I don’t think it reflects her not knowing her market. And, yes, I find her statement to be pandering. But this is Texas and affirming gun rights in some form is a political rite of passage. She’s not the first nor will she be the last politico to adopt a position to protect a potentially vulnerable flank. And who knows, she may actual hold this position for reasons other than the politics of it."
