HB238 will put New Mexico in line for a portion of $100 million in federal dollars to "strengthen" the state's criminal and juvenile justice system.

What is it really? - More hypocritical feelgood legislation to get Federal money and expand Federal power over the state.

"Students at a Kansas state high school were asked last week to nominate the word they most associated with 'school'. The top answer was 'education'. The 2nd most common reply was 'study'. However, the 3rd answer was less than encouraging. The word a little more than 10% of students said they most associated with 'school' was 'shooting'."

-Media bias? Nah!

The committee chose not to recommend HB1508 that would have allowed holders of concealed-weapons permits to go to a school bus-stop with their state-approved self-defense tool. Under current staate law, having a firearm at a school's designated bus-stop is a Felony under Arkansas Code 5-73-119(2)(A)(iii), punishable by up to 6 years in prison, a fine up to $10,000, or both.

Obviously, they'd rather their children be kidnapped, raped or killed.

"In recent months, controversy has flared when it became known that permits have been issued to persons who are legally blind. News stories have quoted outraged anti-gun lobbyists who feel that this a terrible and shocking new problem.

These handicapped permit holders are being hit with a double dose of discrimination. Not only are they treated differently because of their handicap, they are also stigmatized as gun owners."

Woman: "What?"
M: "A killing zone. A victim rich environment."
W: "What are you talking about?"
M sounding amused: "Didn’t you see the sign at the front door? No firearms allowed. We’re in a gun-free killing zone. We’re all defenseless, potential victims."
W chuckling: "So, should we leave?"
M chuckling: "I guess we’ll just take our chances," and after a pause, "but, I think we’ll have to find another theatre for future movies."

Yesterday Wal-Mart agreed to move their guns away from the toy department, although they will still be selling them.

But the incident lives on in the form of legislation filed last week by Sen. Teresa Paiva Weed (D-CT), which will give cities and towns authority to restrict the storage and location of guns in a retail store. Wal-Mart is the only retail firearms dealer in Newport. "It will fly through the Assembly," Kennedy said. "And it will been known as the Wal-Mart gun bill."

The Third Circuit’s strongly worded opinion reinforces the great protections afforded student speech. In a decision that could affect public schools throughout the region, the Federal appeals court ruled that a PA school district's anti-harassment policy violates students' rights of free speech. "Would you know what to do in a real life situation to protect yourself or your family? We (the 12News.com Safety Team) have 3 realistic scenarios for you to test yourself.
