... "The thing is, most of us depend on specialization. If a pipe breaks, we call the plumber. If the car makes a funny noise, we get a mechanic to check it out. That’s understandable; life and technology are complicated. We may not have the knowledge, or we may not have the tools. Besides, there are people who can do that for us, whatever 'that' is, and if the price is right, it’s in our interest to let them."

"Sometimes zero tolerance makes zero sense."

"Take the case of former Marine Ryan Jerome, an Indiana jeweler arrested last September at the Empire State Building for carrying a .45-caliber handgun — legally purchased and licensed in his home state."

"It’s not as if Jerome was trying to hide the gun. He volunteered to security personnel that he was carrying it, and actually tried to check it. Nor is he a notorious gangster; he was carrying some $15,000 in jewelry, and needed the gun for protection." ...

"Yes, Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance has offered to take a felony charge off the table if Jerome pleads guilty to a misdemeanor, pays a $1,000 fine and performs 10 days of community service."

"Vance clearly thinks this is a reasonable deal. Jerome thinks otherwise, and he’s willing to go to trial."

"This is risky business, but principle matters to some people." ...

... "Despite a massive amount of historical evidence to the contrary, there is a substantial body of Americans, many occupying positions of influence, who contend that the abrogation of the Second Amendment is the quickest path to domestic tranquility. Since this is as absurd as advocating blood-letting as a cure for anemia, it would seem advisable to question the motives and mentalities of the gun control advocates themselves."

... "Somewhere in the middle of all of this, a solution must be found. It's never fair for new neighbors to arrive and suddenly begin dictating to longtime gun ranges that they must quiet down. There is not much sympathy around here for people who know they are moving near a gun range, then deciding that they don't care for the noise. As comedian Jay Leno would ask, 'How stupid is that?'"

"On the other hand, it is probably not a good idea to push somebody's hot button by creating bigger and louder booms in a neighborhood already drifting toward opposing battle lines. ..."

"I see this on YouTube cop videos all the time. Police officers who are drilled and drilled and drilled again in two-handed shooting reverting to a one-handed grip when the metaphorical fur starts to fly. And why the hell not? It’s a handgun not a handsgun . . ."

"Firing a pistol with one-hand in a SHTF scenario is not only the most practical option—freeing a hand to perform other life-saving tasks—it’s also the most natural way to shoot. And you’re far more likely to move when you shoot one-handed than two. So why don’t armed self-defenders practice shooting one-handed?" ...

Over that period, I have purchased a number of different guns and learned a lot about what I like and what I don’t. Whether you agree with me or not, please remember that as I’m discussing what works for me personally, there is no right or wrong answer. What works for me may or may not work for you.
