Today's reading is FM 3-22.68, available online or in convenient CD format at the links.

The FM contains a separate chapter each for the M249, M60, and M240B. Chapter 1-3 covers operation from general disassembly to clearing procedures. Includes information on the M122 and M122A1 Tripod. Chapter 4 is on machine gun marksmanship training covering topics from: firing positions, night fire, engagement of moving targets, application of fire, changing the barrel, crew drill, transition fire, and other topics. Chapter 5 covers combat techniques of fire and Chapter 6 is on train the trainer.

I prefer the ring-bound hardcopy available at Commando Military Supply in Columbus, GA, who also has other educational materials.

"Well our neighbors to the south - i.e., Arkansas - have made the news again ... This time, their state legislature has passed a law dealing with guns in church. In essence it says that people who are registered gun toters can carry them in the sanctuary of their church." ...

"I understand that about 20 states already allow people to carry guns to church, which really seems strange to me. Obviously they don't read the same Bible that I do ... Jesus says in the New [Testament] ... that we should love one another. ... Just because thousands of people are killed by stupid drivers in America, we have not passed laws that we should all 'drive crazy' and get them, before they get us." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

More evidence this morning that, among our many thousands of law-abiding handgun permit holders, some maybe shouldn't be walking around with a gun. Knox County school board member Bill Phillips has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault for threatening his wife with his handgun. This follows the killing in those always-sketchy Memphis suburbs in which police say a permit holder shot another guy in the chest in an argument over the parking of their respective giant SUVs. And then there are those ominous messages left for Memphis Commercial Appeal executives who posted the state's public-record list of the names of permit holders. We're keeping it all on file here. Just another public service from Pith in the Wind.

"Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown urged lawmakers Thursday to require that judges remove guns from individuals facing final protective orders."

"Brown said the goal was 'to take guns -- all guns -- out of the hands of domestic abusers.'"

To do so, he advocated passage of two bills co-sponsored by the administration that would require the seizure of guns for final protective orders and grant judges the discretion to remove them for temporary ones."

Mexico's bloody drug war is not the fault of 'lax U.S. gun laws'

"A gambit that has become popular of late with the forcible citizen disarmament lobby is blaming the violence in Mexico ... on 'lax U.S. gun laws.' Mexico, of course, has extremely restrictive gun laws and extreme levels of violence. One might think that this would be a pretty strong rebuttal to the idea of trying to control violence by passing more and more gun laws (as if using laws to try to rein in the behavior of the lawless makes any sense). Such an expectation underestimates the stubborn determination of gun law advocates, who somehow find the energy to perform the rhetorical gymnastics required to argue instead that violence in Mexico should be blamed on 'weak gun laws' here, where violence is much less pervasive." ...

"Thou shalt not kill."

"Those four words are often used by opponents of self defense when they claim that divine law forbids the taking of another human life, even in defense of your own. So, how can a Christian justify the carrying of arms for self defense, or should they abhor such a practice and rely on divine intervention?"

"The first issue with the opening argument of this article is that it is the result of a mistranslation. While many Roman Catholic texts translate the ... Commandment as 'you shall not kill', many other texts hold true to the original meaning of 'you shall not murder.' That is the key distinction."

perusing the websites of enthusiastic anti-gunners, I was struck by the incorrect perception they have of those of us who carry a gun. They apparently believe that we stride around like John Wayne, swaggering a bit because of the big iron on our hip. We survey the scene in front of us with a cool eye, watching for any infraction or affront which we can quickly spin into a bloody confrontation, spitting lead left and right. We remain the last one standing as evil-doers lie about us like cord wood. Blowing the smoke from our heated barrel, we reluctantly sheath our weapon until we can find another opportunity to demonstrate our awesome power."

"The debate goes on, but few realize that there really should be no debate. Churches and guns do mix. This is because freedom and safety mix everywhere. It's not about Peace, and it is not about who carries a dangerous device; it’s all about who more dangerously interferes with the authority of the electorate, and we’re seeing a lot more of that than nearly anything else right about now."
