Once an icon of Rockwellian America, the lone boy toting a Daisy BB gun as he wanders the woods has a new reputation - that of an outlaw.

In the boldest of a growing ledger of laws across the country aimed at gradeschool "gunslingers," a new ordinance here makes it a crime to let children under 16 use a BB gun - or its modern cousin, the paintball gun - without parental supervision.

The Japanese Olympic Committee apologized to local authorities after a cross country coach inadvertently pointed an unloaded biathlon rifle at police in Heber City, near the Soldier Hollow venue.

Coach Kazunari Sasaki, who said he had never handled a gun, asked the biathlon coaches if he could hold one of their rifles. He pointed the weapon toward a window in their hotel room, and two police officers in a room directly across the way saw the gun pointing in their direction.

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed its version of the Shays-Meehan Campaign Finance Reform bill. The bill drafted by Shays, a Republican, and Meehan, a Democrat, passed the house vote after two attempts to replace the bill failed.

Since the passage of the bill, many organizations have voiced concerns because the bill infringes on the freedom of speech for individuals and for issue-oriented organizations.

Though the Washington Metropolitan Police command and control center first went online in 1999 for the 50th anniversary of NATO, the events of Sept. 11 have fast-tracked the center into one of the most extensive surveillance operations in the country.

With powerful high-tech zoom lenses monitoring more than 200 key locations, and more on the way, police officers in Washington, D.C., will soon be able to peer into virtually every corner of the nation's capital.

The California Supreme Court Thursday struck down a state law that prohibits felons from cashing in on their crime stories in a case that pitted freedom of speech against victims' rights.

The unanimous decision, "a victory for book publishers and the movie industry," found that the state's 16-year-old ban on profiteering from crime was overly broad and violated free speech rights guaranteed by the U.S. and state constitutions.

-- It appears as if the twisted tale of Professor Michael Bellesiles, the propagandist who’s work is praised by anti-gunners in America, is getting burned by the light of Truth.

Schumer, Clinton, Waxman, Kennedy, McCain, Donaldson, Brokaw, Rather, NYTimes, WashingtonPost, etc., who desire to disarm Americans and otherwise usurp the Constitution, must be feeling pretty blue as Mr.“B’s” FRAUD is exposed.

But they shall not give up their fight; neither should WE.

--Wonder how politicians interpret the Constitution? Joseph Sobran tells all...

"[M]odern jurisprudence is a verbal form of alchemy. The "experts" can pick out a couple of phrases from widely separated clauses of the Constitution, combine them, find "penumbras" and "emanations" in them, appeal to precedents laid down by earlier "experts," and presto! Black means white, and day means night. And in the end, the government is more powerful – and lawless – than before."

Authors of emails and Internet postings that contain "racist" or "xenophobic" material could face criminal charges under a proposed European treaty that is dividing the Internet and law enforcement communities. During its 11 p.m. newscast on Feb. 13, KLAS Channel 8 aired a 3 1/2-minute package on a fatal shooting that took place at Harrah's in the fall of 2000.

However, the audio was not "natural"; it was dubbed in by KLAS, which apparently felt the exclusive footage wasn't dramatic enough on its own.

"A note from Planned Parenthood promising Congress a wake-up call next month from 'America’s pro-choice majority' led me to think of the obvious advantage of framing gun issues as matters of choice as well. ... Lots of people don’t want guns around the house. Fine. Let them not have them. Lots of others think the best self-defense is self-reliance. They want to be on the ready if danger strikes. Let them."

Excerpt: "Educate yourself in the necessary skills it takes to defend your life, and insist that you be allowed to exercise your Constitutional right to arm yourself accordingly in every situation. Forget the liberal mantra of, "If we outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns." Do you really want to live in an America where only outlaws and government agents have weapons? Bill Jones was just endorsed by the NRA and Bill Simon picked up the endorsement of the Gun Owners of America and California. The group says Simon will be a friend to the state's law abiding gun owners.
Simon supports a moratorium on gun legislation, saying the state needs a cooling off period and that the focus should instead be on keeping guns out of the hands of criminals.

Front-runner, Richard Riordan, is staying more middle-of-the-road on this issue.
