"Apparently the fine folks at Hornaday have made a slight calculation error during the loading of some of their 500 S&W handgun ammunition, called by some the most powerful handgun ammunition on the market today. The effect of that slight miscalculation is that you can now blow up your handgun ('excessive chamber pressures' in damage reducing spin-speak). Make the jump for the press release." ...

"Forbes’ columnist Larry Bell can be a bit . . . hysterical. Hysterical manic, not hysterical Ralph. Back in June, I took Mr. Bell to the woodshed for doing a Chicken Little routine on the U.N. Small Arms Treaty. But hey, the guy’s on the side of the angels. Or, if you prefer, the framers of the U.S. Constitution and those who support its Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Larry’s no Bruce Krafft. And the Tough Targets Cato Institute study that’s got him all a twitter is based on journalistic anecdotes rather than [more] objective crime or survey data. "When I applied to Top Shot, I promised the producers I’d liven-up the place a bit. I pointed out that I’d seen funnier how-to embalming videos. That wasn’t exactly fair; both genres are rife with unintentional humor. In Top Shot‘s case, we have host (and Survivor survivor) Colby Donaldson’s struggle to maintain vocal mastery over his capped teeth (while playing-up his wandering western accent) and the show’s dubious historical references ... In fact, Top Shot has enough snark fodder to stave-off Ambien’s incipient effects. Otherwise, I could be accused of doubling down on the sleep meds. Where was I? Ah yes, sex. "The anonymous post on the 80 percent gun—a partially finished firearm that you can complete and NOT register with the feds—inspired a lot of comments and controversy. And no wonder. The federal regulations are as clear as mud. A firearm is a firearm if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (and Really Big Fires) says it is. So manufacturers send their partially completed bits to the Firearms Technology Branch (FTB). The ATF’s FTB examines the work and says yes it is a firearm—and confiscates it. And won’t tell the gunmaker exactly why. Or they say no it isn’t. And won’t tell the non-gunmaker exactly why. Unless they do. And what they say doesn’t necessarily apply to anyone else. And I’m just getting warmed-up . . ." ...

"In 1949, SIG SAUER created the P210 semi-automatic pistol for the Swiss Army. Apart from production innovations, the P210 earned an enviable reputation for excellent recoil control. In terms of precision and reliability, the gun was the Glock of its day. In 1975, Ceska Zbrojovka released the CZ75. If you were feeling charitable, you could say the CZ’s slide-in-frame design echoes the SIG’s. More importantly, the CZ75 repeated the legendary SIG’s winning formula: a relatively heavy, heavy-duty sidearm that helps shooters place rapidly-fired bullets with unerring accuracy. With the success of their semi, CZ created a family of firearms ... The CZ 75 B is one of the best of the breed . . ." ...

"On Tuesday night, the New London NAACP tackled recent claims of discrimination against its police and fire departments. The organization said it wants the Department of Justice to step in and investigate."

"Police video from October 2010 is why the NAACP has demanded that intervention. Lance Goode, who has a history of drug convictions, was arrested that night, but said New London Police Officer Roger Newton set him up, after claiming he threw drugs on the ground and kicked them under his car. Newton just resigned and state police are still investigating." ...

SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: New London PD made the news back in the 90's by refusing to hire an applicant because his IQ was too high. Maybe it's time to rethink that policy.

... "One of the worst kept secrets in the State is that ... because of the impossible to meet standard of 'justifiable need' in the [permit] statutes and the wholly subjective way in which this standard is defined, on a case by case basis by various Superior Court Judges; it is for all intents and purposes a practical impossibility for an average law abiding Citizen to ever meet such a standard."
