"...I wish to briefly protest against the pardoning of the murderers--1 The impulse of human nature is shadowed forth in the divine declaration, "Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed"* -- and the same voice which spoke with tongue of thunder from the brow of Sinai..."

"...Red tape, & technicalities cannot reassure settlers..."

Senator Love's resolution, Senate Concurrent Resolution 54, and Senator Barnes's bill, SB 230, were both written by and introduced at the request of the West Virginia Citzens Defense League, which is continuing to work to amend SB 230 to make other improvements in West Virginia's gun laws.

There’s no misinformation coming from WVCDL. Delegate Brown, who said last week that she opposed West Virginia’s shall-issue concealed handgun licensing law, is the first named sponsor of both the casino carry ban and a State Police pension reform bill that includes a $30 concealed handgun license fee increase.

When Mr. Kabler says the proposed casino carry ban is modeled after laws in other states, he means New Jersey, where no one can get a permit to carry a gun anyway (making a casino carry ban redundant); of course, he conveniently ignores the world capital of casinos, Nevada, where the state imposes no restrictions on carrying in casinos, leaving individual casinos to decide rather than te state.

The House of Delegates leadership pulled a bill, which was set for consideration today, that would have hidden the names of people who applied for a concealed weapons permit.

House Judiciary Chairwoman Carrie Webster, D-Kanawha, made the motion to remove the bill (HB4026) during a meeting of the Rules Committee, a panel made up of the House leadership and chaired by the speaker.

The bill had passed the Judiciary Committee earlier with only Delegate Bonnie Brown, D-Kanawha, voting against. It had advanced on the House floor to passage stage when the West Virginia Press Association raised concerns about it Wednesday.

ANOTHER attempt to hide important government records from West Virginians is proceeding through the Legislature - in this case, adding concealment to concealment. It would make secret the names of people who get permits to carry concealed weapons.
Delegate Bill Hamilton, R-Upshur, said some women victims of domestic violence asked him to introduce the bill, because they don't want anyone to know they're carrying hidden pistols. Maybe - but we suspect that this is another dubious scheme by the right-to-bear-arms lobby.
The National Rifle Association is backing similar secrecy efforts in other states. Since guns are extremely popular in rural West Virginia, most Mountain State politicians timidly vote as the NRA requests.

Submitter's Note: The Charleston Gazette is one of the most anti-gun newspapers in the country. Every month, the Gazette publishes the list of names of residents of Kanawha County who get or renew concealed handgun licenses and theirs city or town of residence.

I drove to my parents' house, went inside and was accosted by three burglars -- teens would be my guess. They bound me with cords, gagged me with a kitchen towel and dragged me into a closet. When I heard them leave, I began trying to get free, but the knots were way too tight. I'm athletic and in great physical shape, but I could not wriggle loose. The closet was small and dark, and I couldn't stand, so I sat there hoping my husband wouldn't be too long wondering where I was.

Submitter's Note: 23 year old wife and mother of 2 goes alone to feed a cat at her parents EMPTY house. She surprises some burglars who tied her up, gagged her, and threw her in a closet. For 3 hours she sat there. AMAZINGLY, she was not killed. Incredibly, she's furious and fuming at husband for not coming sooner. Wuss of a husband actually apologizes and gives flowers.

A battle is brewing between the Honolulu Police Department and the Hawaii Rifle Association over a proposed ban of a high-powered sniper rifle. KITV's Catherine Cruz reported that the 50-caliber rifle is dubbed the most powerful rifle on the market today, and the HPD said it is their worst nightmare. That is why they said they want it out of civilian hands.

The notoriously hopolophobic Carleston Gazette just last week editorialized in favor of keeping concealed handgun license records open to public access, thus giving criminals a veritable shopping list of homes where they would most likely find many guns to steal.

This editorial shows a tremendous ignorance of existing federal and state gun laws and of guns in general.

While DefenseReview was at SHOT Show 2008, Alec Wolf, President of GlockWORX, showed us a cool DocterSight a.k.a. Docter Sight setup he performed on a Glock 19 (G19) pistol, where the DocterSight is embedded into the rear of the pistol's slide. Alec told us that this sight setup allows for extremely fast and accurate multiple target engagement (MTE) at combat distances. We believe the Docter Sight model GlockWORX is using is the DocterSight II Plus a.k.a. Docter Sight II Plus (unconfirmed/unverified).

Open Forum SFGate-

"The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist."

- Winston Churchill, Nov. 21, 1943

Since 9/11, and seemingly without the notice of most Americans, the federal government has assumed the authority to institute martial law, arrest a wide swath of dissidents (citizen and noncitizen alike), and detain people without legal or constitutional recourse in the event of "an emergency influx of immigrants in the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs."

A 17-year-old suspect was shot and killed in Altamonte Springs early Saturday morning after deputies said he ran from them and into a nearby home. According to the Seminole County Sheriff's Department, the incident began when Ryan Realford approached a uniformed deputy in an unmarked car. Police said he appeared to be selling drugs. When he saw the officer's uniform, he ran down the street. According to the sheriff's office, Realford ran to a house on the 600 block of Lake Mobile Drive. The homeowner said Realford removed a locked screen door and was trying to enter his house through a sliding glass door. The homeowner said he asked Realford to leave. When he would not, the homeowner told deputies he shot him.

"More than 100 irate Las Vegas newcomers crowded into a meeting room at the Aliante Public Library on the evening of Feb. 13, jeering, heckling and throwing things at elected officials and Clark County staff invited to explain plans – 24 years in the works – to build a 900-acre shooting park in the empty desert north of town." ...

"The suspicion lingers, enhanced by comments at the Feb. 13 boo-fest concerning the risk of people 'driving through our neighborhood with guns in their cars,' that the concern here is not noise at all, but simple hoplophobia – fear of arms – on the part of new arrivals who have not yet figured out that Nevadans maintain a proud tradition of being armed for their own defense and the defense of the nation." ...

Joe Giorgi had steam coming from his ears. The Rochester Brooks gun club member wanted to sight in his rifle for an upcoming South Dakota buffalo hunt but milling about on the range were all these people in colorful bodysuits, cross-country skis strapped to their feet and funny looking guns strapped to their backs. Storming into the clubhouse, Giorgi went up to the registration desk for the Western New York Biathlon Club looking for answers. But there, a friendly, astute woman completely disarmed him when she said: "You look like you might enjoy doing this, sir." A hunter with crack aim, a cross-country skier with an adventurous soul, Giorgi had to agree.

Democratic congressional candidate Stephen Harrison slammed GOP Rep. Vito Fossella yesterday for shooting blanks in the battle against illegal guns in America. Speaking at a press conference in West Brighton, Harrison cited Fossella's A-minus rating from the National Rifle Association and said, "Fossella and his fellow Republicans show blind obedience to the gun lobby. They need to take responsibility for their records on gun control and responsibility for their failure to curb gun violence."

There was a link between the first modern schoolhouse shooter; Kip Kinkel of Springfield, Ore.; one if not both of the teen killers at Columbine High School; and most of our other domestic mass killers of recent years. A link that makes a lot more sense than "the easy availability of guns."

Steven Kazmierczak had recently stopped taking his Prozac, his girlfriend told the press less than a week after the NIU shootings.

Submitters comment: Let's not only get rid of all the onerous gun laws but the mind altering drugs as well.

A group of Minnesota lawmakers has introduced a bill that would allow citizens to use deadly force as their first option when feeling threatened. The proposed bill has caused major concern for at least one group of Minnesotans as LeAnn Wallace reports. "We think it's just another way for people to shoot people and have an excuse to shoot them." Joan Peterson is a member of "Protect Minnesota" a group formed to prevent gun injuries and death. The group calls the bill the "Shoot First, Ask Questions Later" bill.

Take a moment to put yourself in the shoes of a teacher at the University of Utah or Salt Lake Community College: You are standing in front of a classroom as students - 25, 50 or 100, depending on the class - walk in and take their seats. As one student sits down, he takes a revolver from a holster and places it in his lap or on the desk, his hand near the trigger. Or he leaves it in a shoulder or belt holster, in plain sight and within easy reach. What would you do?

The campus shooting at Northern Illinois University may be old news by now, but forgive me for thinking it might have presented an opportunity at last night's debate for someone to ask Hillary or Obama about gun control. Can you remember the last time either candidate talked about it? The last time any Democratic presidential contender did? Thinking "Dems" and "guns" leaves me with images of John Kerry in a hunting outfit. Embarrassing.

“I shot a banded duck,” said Hillary Clinton. Who says we have heard everything there conceivably could be to say from the presidential candidates? There is something about an election year that makes politicians start bragging about how many furry or feathered critters they’ve killed. Otherwise, God forbid, voters might think they were interested in doing something about gun control.
