"With the exception of a story from Fox News about allegations that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) 'allow[ed ] guns into Mexico,' every 'traditional' media account about 'Project Gunwalker' has ignored mentioning who dug out the story and broke the news in the first place." ...

... "Sadly, if there are 'Good Cops' then there are also some 'Bad Cops'. Fortunately for us, the Good Cops outnumber the Bad Cops by at least twenty to one. This is an imprecise estimate, but candid (and very private) discussions with police officers seem to support the reality that, at the most, five percent of cops nationwide are 'dirty'." ...

"Some commenters on the thread about the 7-year-old being criminally prosecuted for bringing a toy gun to school linked this to zero tolerance policies, and suggested such policies are as a general matter unsound. I think the question of zero tolerance policies is a bit more complex, so I thought I’d blog a bit about it." ...

... "I don’t know the answer to today’s most talked-about topic, the shooting of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. I recall President Obama only mentioned it once in his hour speech ... wisely so, since I think most of us have mixed feelings about it. How do we stop the proliferation of guns in out-of-control hands, while preserving our American privilege to own one?" ...

"Last month’s shooting in Arizona of a local member of Congress and the killing of six people has again focused attention on the issue of regulating the purchase of firearms. A recent undercover investigation in that state show that guns can be easily purchased by suspicious individuals." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Of course "[l]ast month’s shooting in Arizona of a local member of Congress" had nothing to do with gun shows! The shooter passed the NICS check because he had never been convicted of a crime nor adjudicated insane!

"A bill Friday that would drop the 'no gun' border around schools is one step closer to becoming law, just as another gun-related bill died."

"Guns could be carried openly around the perimeter of public and private schools under HB75, sponsored by Rep. Curt Oda, R-Clearfield, as long as the carrier remained off school property. The bill narrowly passed committee 5-4." ...

"I must take issue with Rep. John B. Hunt, my respected colleague from Rindge, in reference to the bloodbath that occurred in Tucson on Jan. 8."

"He was quoted in the Sunday, Jan. 16, Sentinel as saying, 'It was an isolated incident by someone who was mentally ill. You can’t do anything about that.'" ...

"White House budget officials dealt federal firearms investigators a setback Friday when officials rejected an emergency rule meant to help catch gunrunners to Mexico."

"The decision delays for at least two months a proposed requirement that gun dealers along the Mexican border report anyone who buys two or more assault weapons in five days. White House officials said the delay will give the public more time - until Feb. 14 - to comment on the proposal." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Heh! Like public comment will sway anti-gun anti-freedom bureaucrats from their power-grab.

"Gov. Mary Fallin said Friday safety concerns trouble her about proposed measures to allow guns on college campuses ..."

"Fallin said she supports the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms, but she also understands the viewpoints of the state’s university presidents and most law officers."

"'They expressed concerns basically with having students on campus with guns,' Fallin told those attending an Oklahoma Press Association meeting." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: So what would reaction be to: "'They expressed concerns basically with having colored men on campus with white women." Vicious and ignorant stereotypes should never be the basis for public policy.

"There is now concern that more guns may be headed to your children's schools."

"Friday, a house committee narrowly passed a bill removing a protective gun zone from around Utah schools." ...

Submitter's Note: The only thing "protective" about the "gun zone" is that it protects criminals and provides spree killers with a safe, target-rich environment.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)]
