There's a countdown clock on the website for RW Arms, a Texas-based seller of firearms accessories. It tracks the days, hours, minutes and seconds until they're no longer permitted to sell bump stocks, devices that allow semi-automatic rifles to fire almost as fast as illegal machine guns. Promotional emails from RW Arms also include the countdown clock, urging customers to "order now" to "enjoy this unique firing experience" while they can.

Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham says security has been at the forefront of his mind since the Tree of Life shooting in Pittsburgh in October. "We've seen an uptick in shootings not just in religious institutions but schools and malls and all of these other places over the couple of years so we have a heightened awareness of these things are happening." Abraham said.

A recent study says most Americans tend to overestimate how many people own guns, a finding that some experts say could have political ramifications nationwide. University of Kansas political scientists Don Haider-Markel and Mark Joslyn examined the results of a 2016 nationally representative survey of nearly 1,300 American adults. The researchers found that more than 75 percent of those who responded to the survey overestimated what percentage of Americans own guns.

As the regular hunting season winds down, we’ve got about two months to start thinking about turkey hunting. Yep. Goose season ends this weekend and then we have three weeks of small game hunting until the end of February. I hear a lot of folks talk about the glut of turkeys in the mountains, but what are they doing about it? If you’ve never hunted wild turkey before, they are a challenge! I got skunked last year but plan on making it right this year. If this is the year you want to get started, the WRC and National Wild Turkey Federation are here to help.

The executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence was quoted Monday morning by the Daily Gazette declaring, “I think the nation, particularly New York, is coming around to the idea that gun laws are needed.”

But New Yorker Rebecca Fischer just might get an argument or two about that theory, especially from rights activists way out in Washington, where beleaguered gun owners are encouraged by pronouncements from more than a dozen county sheriffs that they will not actively enforce provisions of an extremist gun control measure passed by voters last fall. Initiative 1639 is a restrictive gun measure passed by about 60 percent of Evergreen State voters in November, but several lawmen believe parts of the law are unconstitutional.

The American Revolution was sparked in part by unjust taxation. After all, the colonists in Boston rebelled against Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” and summarily tossed English tea into the harbor in protest in 1773. Nowadays Americans collectively spend more than 6 billion hours each year filling out tax forms, keeping records, and learning new tax rules according to the Office of Management and Budget. Complying with the byzantine U.S. tax code is estimated to cost the American economy hundreds of billions of dollars annually – time and money that could otherwise be used for more productive activities like entrepreneurship and investment, or just more family and leisure time.

WAAY 31 talked to several people today in Huntsville and all of them said they don't approve of the new proposal. They said it could make it easier for guns to end up in the wrong hands. "I'm not for more gun control, but I'm alright with the gun control we have in the state," said Huntsville resident, Ethan Lee.

Residents of South Dakota will soon be able to carry concealed without a permit, thanks to a law that Gov. Kristi Noem signed. Her first signed bill extends the state’s gun rights. Previously, South Dakotans could open carry without a permit. “It’s special for me to be signing a bill into law that protects our Second Amendment rights,” Noem said, adding that gun rights are one of the “fundamental values” of the Constitution.

There’s outrage all over the country. Deaths from firearms outpace those in other nations. Mass shootings awaken our national consciousness. The inadequacy of our government’s willingness to address these tragedies with legislation is evident by the lack of movement we see on any comprehensive firearm legislation. Well-meaning people, tired of this inaction, look outside of government for change. But this is an error.

The signing of a permitless concealed carry law, on Jan. 31, has some citizens questioning where guns will be allowed and where they won’t on July, 1 when the law goes into effect.
As it turns out, there aren’t too many places where guns are legally banned. Basically, firearms - whether carried openly or concealed - are not allowed in public schools, bars or restaurants that sell alcoholic beverages and courthouses.

Following legislative passage last week of New York’s most ambitious gun control legislation in six years, advocates and opponents are arguing for and against additional controls. The six new measures that will go before Gov. Andrew Cuomo for signature into law would, among other things, ban rapid-fire devices, allow courts to confiscate guns from people deemed dangerous and bar teachers from bringing guns into schools.
