In talks with the U.S. government about using its rapid-fire Phalanx Block 1B gun systems to protect domestic infrastructure sites, could provide a demonstration model within a week's time, a top company official said.

Dennis Carroll, project manager for the Phalanx system used on Navy warships since 1979, told Reuters in an interview late Monday that he had not yet received any orders to install the gun system at land-based sites in the United States.

House committee votes to remove fee for weapons permits. Over objections of committee Democrats, Republicans agreed to remove the current $35 fee charged law-abiding citizens who take out a concealed weapons permit.

Rep. Morgan Philpot (R-Sandy) already has a bill waiting for House debate that removes the fee charged gun-buyers for a background check.

GOA ALERTS: H.B.304, a bill that would eliminate almost all of the 'No Safety Zones' from the state's concealed carry law, now advances to the House Rules Committee.

The bad news is the Rules Committee is a notorious "killing field" and is the logical spot for anti-gunners to kill the bill for the year. Only massive pressure from the grassroots on the members of the Rules Committee can advance the bill to the full House at this point.

The Taser policy requires two officers to be present when the device is in use. One officer will hold the Taser while another officer, armed with a gun, will cover him.

D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton says Americans are frittering away freedom in the name of feeling more secure.

"Parts of our open society are gradually being closed down because of our fear of terrorism," Mrs. Norton said yesterday during a morning meeting with editors and reporters at The Washington Times.

"September 11 accelerated the reach for blunt and often ineffective remedies to assure our security."

Last week, alert security screeners at the Phoenix airport intercepted a man attempting to carry what they concluded were dangerous metal objects onto a Washington-bound flight. Among the metal objects in his possession were a metallic star, a nail file and another object that appeared to be a bullet. No gun was found. After about 45 minutes of questioning and repeated searches, the man was allowed to board the aircraft, minus the bullet and nail file.

CA: Police say slain gunman a parolee

"A gunman killed in a shootout with police Sunday night was identified by officers Monday as a parolee, may have fired at the officer because he was facing a potential third-strike offense..."

-- I hope this felon appreciated the fact that he was breaking the law by just possessing the firearm, before he tried to shoot it out with the cops, which, coincidentally, is also illegal.

KABA NOTE: Obviously, California's "gun control" laws don't work on criminals.

Like many states, Virginia has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars since Sept. 11 putting metal detectors and X-ray machines at its Capitol doors to thwart a deadly terrorist rampage.

Visitors now entering the 200-year-old Capitol are asked to let officers inspect anything that might trigger a metal detector — cell phones, pagers, keys and guns.

Yes, guns.

KABA NOTE: As it should be.

This web site has got to be a joke, but they play the anti-gun idiocy to the hilt. Say 'YES' to screwdriver buy-backs!

"This Web site is intended as a resource that will raise awareness of this important issue, and influence public opinion. We hope that by ultimately banning the sale and use of screwdrivers, we can make the world a little bit safer, and increase compassion towards victims of screwdriver crimes and accidents."

"Retaliation for stolen drugs fueled the fatal shooting of a 47-year-old woman Jan. 23 in Kansas City, Kan., according to police.

Twice in the week before the shooting, less than $1,000 worth of crack cocaine was stolen, prompting two shootings -- including the woman's slaying -- by different groups, police said."

KABA NOTE: And of course, the anti-gunners will use these deaths to boost their "innocents killed by gunfire" numbers.

Program aims to 'increase gun-violation prosecutions'

"A federal program aimed at making neighborhoods safer will give state and local authorities more leeway in prosecuting criminals who violate weapons laws."

-- Someone is finally thinking in the right direction: enforcing current laws instead of making new ones.

KABA NOTE: Except what happens when those "gun laws" are unconstitutional in the first place? And why just come down on "gun crimes", when there are other items (sports, cars, pools, etc.) that cause hundreds of times more innocent deaths than firearms? It is just another ploy of the anti-gunners.

"IT SHOULD BE a no-brainer for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to decide in favor of allowing pilots to have firearms in the cockpit. Yet as we approach the Valentine’s Day deadline for public comment on this issue, the liberal media, the airlines and the anti-gun groups have been trying to scare the FAA into believing that trained pilots cannot be trusted with firearms." - Tayna Metaksa

"It goes without saying among the few of us who care about such things that the United States has veered off track from the constitutional republic envisioned by its Founders. From a system of limited government, where the federal government had a few defined powers expressly delegated by the Constitution ... we have morphed into a regime under which the federal government defines its own powers and progressively turns the states into its own administrative units." - by W. James Antle III

A federal judge threw out a ban on baby pacifiers, glow sticks and dust masks at "rave" parties held at a theater saying the restrictions violated partygoers' 1st Amendment rights. In a ruling Friday, [judge] Porteous said, "The government cannot keep legal items out of places because of illegal activities they associate with them."

-- So when is this judge going to rule that the government can't ban legal guns from places "because of illegal activities they associate with them."?
