"The DC Court of Appeals has issued an opinion in the controversial 2nd Amendment case Seegars v Ashcroft. As I had expected, the ruling went against us on procedural grounds; the court refused to strike down the laws in question because the plaintiffs had not been prosecuted under those laws -- they had filed suit prior to any enforcement action on the basis of their declared intent."

"The best way to understand this is to think of the judges splitting legal hairs in an attempt to avoid actually ruling on the 2nd Amendment issue that is the core of the case. Rather than rule on the merits, the judges ruled that none of the plaintiffs have 'standing' to bring suit." ...

"During the heat of the recent presidential campaign, Congress declined to renew the ban on assault weapons. As a former police officer, I find this troubling."

"Any discussion of gun control usually provokes strong feelings on both sides of the issue, and both sides can marshal compelling arguments to support their views. One thing both sides agree on, however, is that guns are dangerous. And the point I would make is that if the guns already available are dangerous, assault weapons are even more dangerous because of their continuous-fire capabilities and the ready availability of otherwise illegal ammunition such as armor-piercing rounds." ...

The victim was hospitalized with a potentially life-threatening wound to the leg, Jorge Amador, the city's director of public safety, said in a phone interview.

A 21-year-old Marine shot himself in the thigh Tuesday afternoon at Ricky's Gun Service Sales and Indoor Pistol Range, Beaufort police said.
Lyquin J. Broadus, who is stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, was in the firing range when he lowered his gun and shot himself with a semi-automatic pistol, Sgt. David Ott said.

Broadus was stable at Beaufort Memorial Hospital late Tuesday afternoon, police said.

"It was unsafe handling of a firearm, plain and simple," Ott said. "Anytime you're shooting a firearm, the gun should always be treated as loaded."

"HB 1822 is not an attempt to protect Washington’s hunting lands. This is a back door plan to erode hunting by placing unnecessary restrictions on sportsmen. A ban on lead shot will raise the price of ammunition to an unacceptably high level, forcing sportsmen out of the field. Also, many older shotguns are incompatible with non-lead shot; therefore, sportsmen would need to purchase new firearms or stop hunting altogether." ...
