The debate over which pistol caliber is best for self-defense has been raging for decades (and by "caliber," we really mean "cartridge"). Gun owners are typically passionate about their choices, and the argument often turns ugly. I don’t have much of a dog in the fight, since I choose to carry a 9mm or 45 ACP depending on the situation.

When it comes to handgun cartridges, what's "best" is subjective. How you intend to use your handgun is the biggest determinant of which round you should prefer. What works best for plinking cans off backyard fenceposts isn’t going to cut it for bear defense.

Only days into this year’s legislative session, and already beleaguered Virginia gun owners have launched a petition demanding that the Democrat-controlled General Assembly immediately “reject and kill” one of several House bills introduced this session in an effort to ratchet down on Second Amendment rights.

Say someone is breaking into your home. You have a gun. Can you kill them to protect yourself? Before 2008, in Wyoming, you had to try retreating before using lethal force.

I test fire a lot of firearms in the course of my work.

About half are run of the mill, credible, useful, and affordable. Then there are the better types and the below average types. But then some are exceptional. The Smith & Wesson Folding Pistol Caliber carbine .22 is one of the exceptional firearms.

Late last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee amended and passed SB 17, the “Stop Illegal Gun Trade Act,” a bill that is not about “stopping illegal gun trades” or public safety but a direct attack on New Mexico’s law-abiding sportsmen and firearm owners. SB 17 could be heard by the full Senate any day.
