"Gun owner and devout Catholic John Michael Snyder has published a new book, 'Gun Saint,' which he hopes will inspire the Roman Catholic Church to recognize St. Gabriel Possenti as the patron of handgunners."

"Snyder, a gun lobbyist and founder of the St. Gabriel Possenti Society, has been asking the church to make the designation for 15 years. He used Possenti's annual feast, held Thursday, to assail some Catholic bishops for choosing 'political correctness' over their faith."

"The day of the vigil, a federal grand jury charged 10 people with being members of a Philadelphia drug gang that conspired to commit the murder of a mother of two, who had decided to come clean about her involvement in the purchasing of guns for the gang. They killed the 33-year-old pharmacy clerk to stop that testimony."

"Guns."

"On Tuesday, a suspected drug dealer in Grasmere was arrested hours after he fired a shotgun blast into a neighbor's home."

"Guns."

"Where was the gun used to shoot Ebony Smith purchased? Or any of the others used this week in crimes in every city in America?"

"The answer to that question cannot be learned; we have the Republican-controlled Congress to thank for that."

-------
Notice how the criminal responsible takes a back seat to guns and Republicans.

"A key figure in a wide-ranging police corruption scandal in which antigang cops allegedly beat, framed and shot innocent people has told investigators at least four officers lied about details of police shootings, it was reported Thursday."

"Nino Durden, a former member of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart station antigang unit, told state and federal investigators in 2001 that a police sergeant made up a story after Durden and his partner, Rafael Perez, shot an unarmed man in 1996, the Los Angeles Times reported. Two fellow officers wrote phony reports to confirm the details, according to the newspaper, which cited transcripts of Durden's interviews with investigators."

"Local business owners have the right to declare: ‘no shirt, no shoes, no service.’ Don’t like pedigrees on the premises? Then post: 'No dogs allowed.' "

"But a House bill making its way to the floor could require local businesses to place 'no gun zone' warnings and provide a safe storage area where consumers could store their firearms."

"The signs and storage boxes apply only to those opposed to firepower on their property and are part of a personal protection bill that would give county sheriffs the sole authority to grant conceal-carry permits."

-------
Let's see which businesses get robbed more often - those which are "gun-free zones," or those who trust their customers with firearms.

"Several key lawmakers were made aware during the 2001 legislative session that DPS had amassed a six-figure surplus in the Concealed Handgun License Program (a number we're told was amazingly close to the amount of money they plan to take out of the program in their proposed cost-savings plan!) These lawmakers attempted, during last session and throughout the interim, to get DPS to reduce CHL fees where possible. The Governor even issued an Executive Order to that effect last fall. DPS did respond to those requests -- with plenty of excuses as to why they couldn't reduce fees and absolutely no action to reduce the fees themselves."

"And now DPS wants to reduce their budget disproportionately, it seems, on the backs of hard-working Texans who apply for a CHL and already pay some of the highest fees in the nation!"

HB 878 will help eliminate confusion among CHL instructors, licensees and law enforcement, and provide uniformity and consistency in state law regarding where license holders may lawfully carry."

"Durham police officials want some smaller and lighter pistols because the models now used are too big for officers with small hands."

"The large pistols have been blamed for low scores officers had on the firing range."

"At least one female officer candidate failed the firing test and couldn't join the force. Five or six officers fail the shooting test each year and are assigned to desk duty until they improve marksmanship scores."

-------
Notice how the gun gets the blame for human incompetence and more taxpayer dollars will be spent on new guns instead of training the officers.

Taking the D.C. gun ban to court

"The D.C. government has done little or nothing to disarm violent criminals; yet it has done a really effective job of disarming decent, peaceable residents. Still, lots of cities and states have restrictive gun laws along with high rates of violent crime. What, then, is unique about the District of Columbia? Why do D.C.'s laws have gun defenders up in arms?"

"For starters, no handgun can be registered in D.C. Even those pistols registered prior to the District's 1976 ban cannot be carried from room to room in the home without a license. Moreover, all firearms in the home, including rifles and shotguns, must be unloaded and either disassembled or bound by a trigger lock. In effect, no one in the District can possess a functional firearm in his or her own residence. The law applies not just to 'unfit' persons like felons, minors or the mentally incompetent, but across-the-board to ordinary, honest, responsible citizens."

"I learned that people who get in the way of an angry cop can wind up in a lot of trouble. I learned that perfectly understandable human behavior can be surprisingly unlawful. I learned that what's fair and what's legally correct aren't always the same thing, that sometimes the right decision can feel very wrong. Since then, I've thought about all the ridiculous verdicts I've heard about in various high-profile cases, with a new appreciation for how hard it might have been to make those calls."

"It may have once seemed like a good idea, but listening in on customer conversations at post offices here and in Everett has come to an abrupt halt."

... "Inexpensive baby monitors were used, with microphones placed at lobby counters and speakers in a manager’s office. Most customers weren’t aware of the monitors."
