"San Francisco gun banners would put residents at the mercy of thugs and drug dealers, and the proof lies just across the bay in Oakland, where a local resident there has had to defend himself for trying to help rid his neighborhood of criminals."

"The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms points to the case of Patrick McCullough, who recently was surrounded on his property by a gang of about 15 young thugs. Several of them reportedly punched him, one apparently hit him with a tree branch, and a 17-year-old allegedly reached for a gun. That's when McCullough drew his own gun and shot the teen in the arm. McCullough, who has no criminal history, was arrested on suspicion of felony assault." ...

"Following the decision in Seegars v Ashcroft, the Parker v DC case becomes active again. Both sides in the case will file motions arguing their view of where the case should go following the Seegars decision. The plaintiff's motion is now available."

"Unsurprisingly, their motion argues that their plaintiffs have standing and that the case should proceed to trial on the merits. Accordingly, they move that a scheduling order for briefing and oral arguments should be issued. They have what looks to me like a surprisingly strong case in comparison to the Seegars plaintiffs, at least on the standing issue, so they just might win this motion. However, the government lawyers haven't filed their side yet." ...

"Nike is to Tiger Woods as Winchester Shotguns is now to Patrick Flanigan."

"The shotgun maker is backing Oshkosh’s resident sharpshooter who, once again, is targeting a rare, rapid-fire world record."

"Winchester Shotguns, Winchester Ammunition and Do All Outdoors have agreed to an NFL-like sponsorship of Flanigan, a renowned exhibition shooter who produces his own ESPN Outdoors program 'Midwest Wings.'"

"In September, Flanigan believed he had videotaped proof of a world record. On a shooting range south of Oshkosh, he hand-tossed 10 clay targets into the air and, before they hit the ground, nailed each one at least once with a barrage of shotgun fire."

"The previous record was nine targets." ...

The problem with going to the SHOT Show, the hunting and shooting industries' extravaganza in Las Vegas, is that you see far more new and improved gadgets than there will ever be space to write about. Here are some items that looked as if they would be a.) actually useful, and b.) provide good value for the price.

Hunter education instructors continuously reinforce a mind-set that all guns must be considered loaded and lethal at all times."

"Every kind of projectile-firing device - from staple and stun guns to the largest of hand-held big-game rifles - can cause serious injury and death."

"Non-powder firearms, including air rifles, paintball pistols and BB guns often thought of as toys, can be as harmful as high-powered rifles. 'Some air guns have as much power as a .22-caliber rifle,' said Dave Keil Department of Environmental Conservation sportsmen's education coordinator." ...

"David Hernandez Arroyo had murdered his ex-wife on the courthouse steps and was turning on his son when Wilson arrived. Wilson was the first to fire back, and authorities say he saved the young man's life. But Wilson was killed, outmatched by Arroyo's body armor and knockoff AK-47."

A traffic officer from Thohoyandou is to be charged with negligent handling of a gun after his 18-year-old son shot himself with his father's service pistol, police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Captain Ailwei Mushavhanamadi said the boy was found in a pool of blood in his 35-year-old father's room after shooting himself in the head on Saturday night.

He had got the gun from his father's dressing table.

"This is in contravention of the Firearm Control Act, which states that anyone in possession of a gun must have a safe at home to keep it in," said Mushavhanamadi.

Police intended to arrest and charge the traffic officer soon, Mushavhanamadi said.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Many politicians are in the habit of laying it down as a self-evident proposition, that no people ought to be free till they are fit to use their freedom. The maxim is worthy of the fool in the old story, who resolved not to go into the water till he had learned to swim. If men are to wait for liberty till they become wise and good in slavery, they may indeed wait forever. — LORD THOMAS MACAULAY
