During a news conference Sunday, state Sen. Ethan Strimling, a Democrat from Portland, said he does not believe the 10-year-old federal ban will be reauthorized, even though the president has said he would sign a reauthorization."

An emergency? These weapons are used in about 2 percent of all crimes, and were used even less frequently before the federal ban. The paranoia is unwarranted.

An Indianapolis man died Sunday after police said his wife hit him in the head with a hammer.

It happened at about 9 p.m. in the 2300 block of Barnor Drive, Indianapolis television station RTV6 reported.

Police said the couple's 13-year-old son called 911 and said his father was attacking his mother before she delivered the fatal blow. The man was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators were questioning the woman and more information was expected to be released about the incident Monday.

Prosecutors will review the case and decide whether it was justifiable homicide or whether charges should be filed, police said.

It's difficult to believe any "journalist" with integrity would insult our intelligence by citing one of the most discredited studies in existence today. Even the study's author Arthur Kellerman admits that his study did "not include cases in which burglars or intruders are
wounded or frightened away by the use or display of a firearm." He also admitted his study did not look at situations in which intruders "purposely avoided a home known to be armed."

In other words, this study was tailored to achieve a desired result.

In his critique of this study, criminologist Gary Kleck notes that the estimation of gun ownership rates were 'inaccurate," and that the total population came from a non-random selection of only two cities.

The only people who still give any credence at all to this biased piece of work are gun banners with an obvious agenda.

What moral justification could there possibly be for subjecting law-abiding citizens to possible harassment, loss of employment and criminal victimization just because they choose to exercise their constitutional rights and take responsibility for their own safety?
