A man who fatally shot a guest at his cabin in Pennsylvania nine times did so out of self-defense, a county district attorney has determined while pushing back against criticism that the investigation lacked transparency.
Evidence from the case supported witness accounts that Peter Spencer, 29, of Pittsburgh, was shot early Dec. 12 at the cabin in Venango County while he was high on psychedelic mushrooms, firing an assault rifle and threatening others. No charges will be filed, District Attorney D. Shawn White said Tuesday. |

The sheriff’s office said the woman, who was on the jet ski, attempted to deescalate the assault by pushing the man, who had also been on the jet ski, back into the water.
The couple helped the man get back on the boat a second time.
After a second encounter, deputies said the man on the pontoon shot the man fearing for his and his wife’s life while being assaulted.
The coroner’s office said 29-year-old Nathan Drew Morgan, from Walhalla, was shot in the chest while on the pontoon boat.
Investigators were told that there may have been some type of argument between the man and the woman on the jet ski before they were ejected into the water. |

On January 31, the Times published an op-ed by Dr. Steven J. Sainsbury, a hospice and geriatric physician from San Luis Obispo, Calif., titled “Thinking of buying a gun for self-defense? Don’t do it.” In the op-ed, Sainsbury attempts to make the case that there are hardly any successful armed self-defense episodes, and having a gun in your home is far more likely to lead to the homeowner being killed than using the gun for self-defense.
It’s a good thing three homeowners in Fontana, Calif., Longview, Texas, and Lincolnton, N.C., didn’t read (or believe) Sainsbury’s anti-gun tripe, as all three of them were forced to use firearms to defend their homes on the very same day earlier this month—March 5. |

Gun shops say sales of guns and ammunition are going up.
At Diamondback Shooting Sports, Ben Anderson says there’s no single explanation for the jump.
He says the war in Ukraine has boosted sales of the ammunition AK-47 rifles use because those rifles and similar models are being used in the war. That makes people who own AK style rifles in the U.S. worried the ammunition they use could become scarce. |

A federal judge has decided that Rhode Island’s law against residents owning stun guns and Tasers is unconstitutional.
U.S. District Court Judge William Smith ruled in favor of two people who filed a lawsuit against the state in 2019.
The Rhode Island residents claimed they wanted to purchase stun guns for self defense, but state law prohibits them from doing so.
In his decision, Smith said the state’s ban on stun guns violates the Second Amendment, which allows Americans the right to bear arms. |

Even though Ohio has been relaxing gun laws for years, some fear the "constitutional carry" bill that was signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine this week, could lead to more domestic violence incidents around the state.
"We are actually worried about the increase in loss of life," said Michaela Deming, Policy Director for the Ohio Domestic Violence Network.
On March 14, Gov. Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 215 into law. It eliminates the requirement that all individuals carrying a concealed weapon obtain a concealed carry license and complete the proper training to receive a permit. |

Glock G26 Review – The G26 may not be as widely recognized as other Glock pistols, leading me to compile this Glock G26 review.
The Glock G26 is comparable in size to a snub-nose revolver, but with a semi-automatic 9 mm pistol design. It offers a larger magazine capacity in a compact frame, making it a top recommendation for self-defense or a backup piece for law enforcement or the military.
I found the Glock G26 to exceed expectations, as it features minimal recoil and excellent accuracy for a pistol of its size. It is small enough to fit in an ankle holster but still feels heavy and balanced when firing. |

Quite often, in talking to folks about personal defense, we find students who have never been a victim, or even a witness, to a violent crime. They certainly know this can happen to them and that’s why they are taking a class, but they honestly don’t know what to expect should the day come when they have to defend themselves or their family. In conjunction with their training, they really need a study guide to help them understand the things that can happen. Certainly, there have been a number of books written about violent encounters, but there is also an excellent study guide to which all NRA members have access. It is called “The Armed Citizen.” |

Suspicion is rampant. Calls and e-mail are flooding offices of the New York State Police requesting verification about a letter that many pistol permit holders in the state are receiving.
The NYSP says it is sending e-mail messages to pistol permit holders for whom recertification is due. The letters, a sample copy of which appears below, are legitimate. "It is an official e-mail," says the NYSP.
Laws governing firearms in the state, particularly the NY SAFE Act, requires that those who hold pistol / revolver licenses recertify their status every five years. The recertification includes information such as a confirmation of address and list of firearms possessed - including their make, model, caliber, and serial numbers. |

As the world watches the Ukrainian people bravely fight for their sovereignty against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of their country, I am reminded of the importance of the Second Amendment enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The right to bear arms has been viciously attacked in the past few decades as an archaic vestige of a bygone era. However, as many Ukrainians take up arms for the first time in their lives, it serves as a stark reminder of why our Second Amendment rights at home are critical for the survival of our nation. |

Republicans in the New Hampshire House voted Tuesday to bar the state from enforcing any new federal gun limits.
Prior to the final 190-147, the state’s former top judicial official, Windham Rep. Bob Lynn, was rebuked for attacking President Joe Biden.
In addition to being the former chief justice of New Hampshire’s Supreme Court, Lynn is an avid marksman. And in his floor remarks backing the ban on allowing state or local police to enforce gun policies which are not on the books in New Hampshire, Lynn took aim at the Biden administration. |

Senate Bill 136, sponsored by Senator Myers, and co-sponsored by seven other pro-2A legislators, provides protections for gun stores, ranges, or any other entity that engages in the lawful selling or servicing of firearms, components, or accessories. This measure prevents the prohibition, regulation, or seizure of citizens’ Second Amendment rights during a declared State of Emergency. Senator Hughes and Senator Wilson, both co-sponsors of the bill, rose in support of SB 136 on the Floor, expressing their strong support of the measure and Alaskans’ rights to keep and bear arms. |

“Our interest is not in the right to own guns,” said Bittle. “But we’re very concerned about the potential precedent that could be set by this unusual requirement that gun owners pay a fee to a private nonprofit organization, which then has control of how the revenue of the fee gets spent.”
In the lawsuit, the organizations claimed that the insurance law’s fee is more of a tax. It goes on to argue that taxes require two-thirds voter approval by the California Constitution. The organizations also maintain that the legislation violates free speech rights, since gun owners are required to pay a nonprofit - whose message may be against their will. |

At the direction of the Biden administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF”) appears to be revoking the licenses of firearm dealers for even minor paperwork violations.
On June 23, 2021, the “Biden-Harris Administration” announced a new policy of “zero tolerance for rogue gun dealers that willfully violate the law.” The policy further specified that “[a]bsent extraordinary circumstances that would need to be justified to the Director, ATF will seek to revoke the licenses of dealers the first time that they violate federal law . . .” for certain specified violations. |

An Overland Park lawmaker wants to ban so-called “ghost guns” in Kansas, following a shooting at Olathe East High School earlier this month.
Kansas state Sen. Cindy Holscher proposed a bill, modeled off a Delaware law passed last October, that would make it illegal to manufacture a gun using a 3D printer or to possess an unfinished firearm with no serial number.
“With the prospect of people being able to order gun kits and gun parts online, it increases the chances that a gun could end up in the hands of somebody that is high school age, middle school, even,” Holscher says. |

he National Rifle Association Foundation has awarded the Fredericktown Farmers 4-H Club a $25,000 grant to fund initial archery and shotgun equipment and supplies.
“This grant will allow the Fredericktown Farmers 4-H Club to purchase archery and shotgun equipment and supplies that will be used in our established shooting sports program,” 4-H County Engagement Specialist Brad Coleman said. “Our 4-H program has partnered with the Fredericktown School District to provide archery classes during the Learning Zone program as part of the 21st Century Grant program. We also will be offering shotgun and archery classes for the 4-H youth of Madison county.” |

Gov. Mike DeWine insists he’s still on the side of law enforcement, despite signing a bill that would allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons without a permit or training, over their strong objection. The Ohio Fraternal Order of Police had opposed the bill the governor signed earlier this week.
DeWine had made promises to Second Amendment advocacy groups that he would sign the law, but also promised survivors of the 2019 Dayton shootings he would “do something” about guns.
DeWine said he’s still fighting for bills to fund police training and more. |
