"Arlington's budget crisis might be breathing life into a dormant idea: a sales tax for crime control that could pay for police cruisers, computers and salaries."

"A quarter-cent tax -- already in place in several area cities -- could raise about $10 million a year, enough to wipe out the deficit projected for the 2003-04 fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. Arlington's sales tax rate of 7.5 cents per dollar is three-quarters of a cent below the state maximum."

"Can we rely on our present leaders to bring democracy to the far corners of the world? Congress passed the Patriot Act. It is legislation granting dictatorial powers to the Executive Branch of the United States. It is reminiscent of powers granted to Hitler by his Reichstag. All civil liberties are suspended when the Attorney General, in his sole opinion, designates someone as a terrorist. No proof is needed. The accused does not have right to counsel or judicial review. The Attorney General can incarcerate the suspect for up to six months without notifying anyone of his action. If after six months, the Attorney General continues to suspect the accused individual, he or she may be incarcerated in six months increments until the person dies. No one has to be notified of the Attorney General's decision."

"I'm sick to the teeth of this welfare mentality among Libertarians, and even more fed up with quitters that stamp their feet as they take their ball and go home. Life is not fair. The whole concept of "fairness" is a crock, in my view. It depends on somebody owing you something based on some obligation you made up. I'm sorry, but the world does not work that way. It never has. On March 6th the Plain Dealer said ccw reform (HB12) would cost cash strapped Ohio 5.7million dollars annually, in an effort to imply CCW should be rejected because of costs.

But the truth is the PD lied and misled the public, and they were caught. HB12's 5.7m figure comes from non-partisan estimates of how much it'll cost Ohio after people spend more time in jail. You see, HB12 increases theft of a firearm penalties. It has nothing to do with CCW.

"Not only are there some significant gun control bills still alive in the State House, but Daley and his crowd have managed to push a 'GUN BAN' through the State Senate Judiciary Committee. Senate Bill 1195, is a serious 'Gun Ban' that makes it a felony to possess a number of semi-automatic firearms by name and/or by features. Many of these firearms are commonly used for hunting or competitive shooting. SB 1195 bans guns that have any one of a list of features including: any gun of caliber .50 or larger (thus banning all 28 gauge or larger shotguns); have a folding or telescoping stock, and the list goes on.  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. — Noah Webster in "An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution," 1787, in Paul Ford, ed., Pamphlets on the Constitution of the United States, at p. 56 (New York, 1888).
