"U.S. Sen. John Kerry's decision to participate in Tuesday's Senate gun control vote means he will celebrate Super Tuesday in Washington." ...

"The vote will decide whether to renew the ban on assault-type weapons and extend background checks to gun shows. Also scheduled to attend the vote is Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., who is fighting Kerry for the nomination."

-------
The fact that Kerry is taking time out from his ego-stroking campaigning to show up at this vote means he thinks this bill could be a close call. Contact your Senators and let them know their jobs are at stake!

"Senator Allen today discarded his commitment and announced he'll vote against reauthorizing the assault weapons ban. If the ban expires in September, Uzis and AK-47s will once again be readily available on the streets of Richmond, Hampton and Fairfax." ...

" 'Senator Allen has reneged on a firm, unambiguous campaign pledge,' said Michael Barnes, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March. 'He has broken his promise to the people of Virginia.' "

-------
An immoral, unconstitutional pledge should be broken. Call or write Senator Allen and thank him for coming to his senses.

"As the United States Senate prepares to vote on an amendment that would renew the Federal Assault Weapons Act for another ten years, a new study shows a substantial drop in the use of high-firepower assault weapons ..." ...

"The trace data shows that the assault weapons banned by name in the Act have plunged by 66 percent as a percentage of overall crime gun traces since the statute was enacted in 1994. It also shows a substantial decline -- 45 percent -- in assault weapons as a percentage of overall crime gun traces, even after inclusion of 'copycat' guns."

-------
Dramatic drop? They were only used in 2 percent of crimes to begin with! And since when are TRACES equivalent to actual use in crime?

"Since October 1998, 33 cities and the state of New York have brought lawsuits against gun makers and retailers seeking to hold the companies responsible for the misuse of their products. More than 35 major private suits have also been filed since 1998. Funded with millions of dollars from George Soros, the Brady Campaign (and its predecessor Handgun Control) has paid for much of the legal costs behind these suits."

"The goal has not been to win these legally weak cases but rather, with so many simultaneous suits, to bankrupt these companies through massive legal costs. ..."

"Senators pressed Monday for votes on the reauthorization of the nation's assault weapons ban, with Democrats and Republicans both close to winning one of the most contentious, closely watched gun votes so far this year."

"Democrats think they have the votes needed to add the 10-year assault ban renewal to a popular bill that would keep gun makers and distributors from being sued over gun-related crimes."

"They are taking no chances. Sens. John Kerry and John Edwards - locked in a heated Super Tuesday primary battle for their party's presidential nomination - are stepping off the campaign trail to add their votes to the Democratic side. A vote on the bill is expected Tuesday." ...

"With the Senate split with 51 Republicans, 48 Democrats and one independent senator, Democrats already are lobbying Vice President Cheney."

"I support the passage of S1805, but only without any further anti-gun amendments. The gun show bill is unacceptable. So are any amendments renewing the Assault Weapons Ban. I urge you to vote against any anti-gun amendments, including either version of the armor-piercing ammunition amendment. If the Assault Weapons Ban or the Gun Show Ban are passed as amendments to this bill, I insist that you vote to kill the entire bill. I support a clean bill only; no compromises for additional gun control."

Neal Knox's opinion on the recent events...

Here is Mr. Knox's latest take on things, courtesy of www.packing.org.

-------
"Yes, S. 1805 is in danger of being loaded up with anti-gun amendments in the Senate. But anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that the Senate is overloaded with anti-gunners and has been for several years."

"The only way to get the bill passed is to get it back to the House, where it can be cleaned up or killed."

"The identical House version, H.R. 1036, passed last April 285-140."

"The Senate bill has 55 co-sponsors -- five more than necessary for passage. Last week the Schumer-Lautenberg, et al, filibuster failed by 75 votes -- fifteen more votes than the two-thirds necessary to bring it to the floor."

-------
If the supermajority already supports the immunity bill, why not destroy the evil anti-gun amendments at the root, instead of relying on the House to clean it up?

"A Bill supported by the National Rifle Association and making its way through Congress would shield gun dealers from lawsuits arising from crimes in which guns they sold were used."

"The public needs to take notice before this bill passes."

"Such legal immunity would nullify lawsuits arising from gun crimes." ...

"Playing politics with vital legislation that can help protect Americans from violent crime is dangerous. Eight young people (ages 19 and under) are killed in gun incidents each day. Senators should vote their conscience on each piece of this legislation, and not the NRA's agenda."

-------
The latest "news" source to cite this onerous lie. People aged 19-24, who usually make it into the gun banner "children" statistics, ARE NOT CHILDREN! Teenage gangbangers killed in the commission of crimes by police, armed citizens or their fellow criminals ARE NOT CHILDREN!

"As the Senate considers legislation to prohibit abusive lawsuits against Second Amendment rights, Sen. Ted Kennedy is offering an amendment to ban ammunition. Kennedy claims that he is aiming at 'cop-killer' bullets, but he appears to be badly misinformed on the issue."

"There never has been any such thing as a 'cop-killer' bullet. The issue is a fiction, invented for purposes of politics, not public safety. In any case, since 1986, federal law has prohibited the rare types of handgun ammunition that have unusual abilities to penetrate body armor."

"The BATF reports that current ammunition laws are fully sufficient to protect the police, and that attempts to change these laws could actually lead to increased police fatalities."

Is this a joke? A MAJOR MARKETPLACE? Less than one percent of criminals get their guns at gun shows. But apparently, to Dan K. Thomasson, the former editor of the Scripps Howard News Service, that's MAJOR! And they have the nerve to call this column "Talking sense on gun laws."

"New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg, in public debate over passage of S.659/S.1805, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, today lied about the role that a Tacoma, WA gun shop played in the acquisition of a rifle by convicted Beltway snipers John Allan Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, said the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)."

"Speaking to the Senate, Sen. Lautenberg asserted that the Bull's Eye Shooters Supply 'sold' the Bushmaster rifle used in the October 2002 murder spree."

" 'That's not true, and Sen. Lautenberg knows it,' said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron. 'Why he would deliberately introduce a prevarication into serious floor debate about this legislation is a mystery. Sen. Lautenberg surely knows that the rifle was shoplifted from the store by Malvo. There is no evidence that the rifle was sold to anyone, and attempting to give truth to such an easily-exposed lie should be beneath the dignity of a United States senator.' "
