A Novi business is booming as gun owners stock up on weapons and bullets during the COVID-19 outbreak.
There’s such a demand that Fenix Ammunition in Novi is already hiring people laid off of their jobs because of the virus just to keep up with the surge in orders.
“Everybody is responsible for their own defense and they're entitled to do that and so we're going to make sure we do everything in our power to make sure they have what they need when they need it,” said Justin Nazaroff of Fenix Ammunition.
“A typical day through the website would be $4,000 to $4,500 worth of sales. Most every day since last Friday has been upwards of $40,000 a day, and that's been pretty consistent since as of the 13th of March,” Nazaroff said. |
TN: TBI employee tests positive for COVID-19, causing delay in firearm background checks

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation learned Wednesday evening that an employee assigned to its headquarters in Nashville tested positive for COVID-19.
TBI says the employee self-reported the diagnosis to the agency, and remains in good spirits while recovering at home.
Due to the precautions immediately taken, some customers and firearms dealers may have experienced delays this week while securing a firearms background check or appeal in the state.
The agency says the Tennessee Instant Check System, which provides firearm background checks at the point of sale or transfer, experienced an delay in processing transactions Thursday.

Amid mostly empty shelves and counters, employees at Target Sports Range & Gun Shop in Royal Oak hurried to service dozens of people who waited in line to buy weapons or ammunition Thursday.
“Point to something that exists on the shelf,” an employee told a customer.
Oxford resident Cori McCarthy and her husband were among the people waiting in line at the shop, looking to buy a handgun for the first time.
Referring to the novel coronavirus outbreak, McCarthy said they decided to purchase a weapon to protect their home in case anything gets out of control.
“It is a scary time and you just don't know,” she said. “(Buying a gun) has always been on the to do list.”

State Sen. Claire wrote an anti-gun opinion column with many distortions. Her biggest whopper was that the U.S. suicide rate was 10 times higher than any other nation. She said the proposition that good guys with a gun stop crime is a fallacy, when the National Academies of Science found that successful defenses against crime with guns is more common than the use of guns in crime. She rejected the deterrent value of firearms for self-defense despite studies by John Lott and sociologists Wright and Rossi. Among other errors, she lumped together firearms homicides, suicides and accidental deaths as if they were all the same thing to falsely suggest that the firearms death rate for 14 to 17 years old from firearms exceeds that from cars. |

The National Rifle Association released a video showing a disabled woman with a semi-automatic firearm warning of politicians who might "exploit" the coronavirus pandemic to "push gun control." Carletta Whiting, a breast cancer survivor who has a fibromyalgia-related disability, appears in a four-minute video posted to Twitter on Saturday afternoon, which evoked the ire of some gun control advocates. Whiting's health situation makes her particularly vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus, which has killed hundreds of people across the United States. |

NSSF sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security to implore officials to consider the firearm and ammunition industry to be listed as a “National Critical Infrastructure Industry” and industry employees be clearly identified and listed as “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers.” This designation would possibly help exempt those businesses from mandatory shutdowns. NSSF pointed out the industry provides the U.S. military and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies with the tools needed to carry out vital national security and public safety missions. |

The NRA-ILA just announced that the previously worrisome Kansas bill HCR 5025, has been amended to include language that limits the emergency powers of the KS state government. Previously, the bill could have been interpreted to allow authorities to restrict the sale and transportation of firearms, as well as confiscate arms and ammunition during the coronavirus pandemic. Thankfully this was remedied and the changes subsequently approved on Thursday. More information below from the NRA-ILA. |

A Pennsylvania state lawmaker has introduced legislation that would require individuals who wish to purchase gun ammunition to first obtain a permit. GOP State Rep. Thomas Murt introduced HB 2344 and filed it with the memo “Addressing Gun Violence and Enhancing Public Health and Safety,” according to Breitbart News. The 25-page bill says that “a person holding an ammunition purchase authorization permit issued under this section may purchase or otherwise seek the transfer of ownership of ammunition from a retailer that sells ammunition.”

Most outdoors people that I know would rather take an alder branch in the eye or get thumb-snagged on a rusty hook than spend ten minutes at a political rally. But sometimes political reality gets close to home, especially for recreational hunters whose heritage is linked inextricably to their right to possess and use firearms in the field. Recently in Virginia, the state legislature came within a whisker of banning the possession of semi-automatic firearms.

A little more than a year ago, the Pender County Commissioners considered a resolution to name the county a “gun sanctuary” county. It did not go well. Then, the commissioners got an earful from a room mostly filled with opponents of the resolution, and the board responded, after considerable debate, with a unanimous decision to table the item for possible reconsideration sometime in the future. |

A rush on gun stores across the country to purchase firearms and ammunition shows that during a period of national panic, Americans fall back on the Second Amendment for reassurance, say some in the gun rights community, but in two American cities, officials are saying gun shops are non-essential businesses.

The matter of Second Amendment rights was the topic of discussion as the Faribault County Commissioners regular meeting got underway on Tuesday, March 17. Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the meeting was held in the District Courtroom located on the upper level of the Faribault County Courthouse. If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, you probably stocked up on toilet paper. Obviously, the COVID-19 outbreak and pandemic (because that’s what it is) has imposed some conditions on all of us and as a result things are going to be a little weird for a while. Granted, how weird it gets is going to depend a heck of a lot on where you are. The small city I live in is quiet and fairly reasonable. Densely-populated cities and suburbs full of panicked, cabin-fever-addled people on the other hand might get a little strange.

On Sunday at 3:30 p.m., San Luis Obispo County Emergency Services Director Wade Horton announced that he had consulted with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff, and determined that firearm shops may remain open, though the shops had originally been specifically listed among businesses to close their physical locations. “Following a conversation with our Sheriff Ian Parkinson, licensed firearm retailers will be allowed to continue operation, given that they maintain social distancing requirements to protect their customers,” Horton said.

I’m somewhat of a traditionalist when it comes to wallets. I prefer leather, bi-fold, with a separate section for cash money and a clear ID section. Yes, it’s old-school, I know; I also know that there are about a zillion good reasons why newer materials and designs are superior. Still, though, I can’t shake the old ways. A Chicago man is facing felony charges after he was allegedly caught buying and selling guns and drugs from undercover agents in multiple Chicago-area counties. Malcolm Brown, 31, was charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, six counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and one count of unlawful possession of a machine gun by a felon, the Lake County sheriff’s office said. |
