... "Guiding law is codified under N. Mar. I. Code, the Commonwealth Weapons Control Act. The rules are spelled out in detail, including another that seems ripe for challenge, a prohibition on anyone who is not a permanent resident from eligibility for the required identification card."

"The Mariana Islands case resulted in an unexpected dismissal requiring an amended complaint, Dean Weingarten of Gunwatch reported Tuesday. The case is being handled by Michel & Associates, which has posted all filings to date. Another lawsuit is proceeding separately, Gunwatch reported in December." ...

"As a teacher of high school English, I have rather a unique perch from which to observe the passing trends of American interest and life. All manner of things come up in our discussions of literature: drugs, relationships, the nature of men and women, parenting, you name it. But only rarely does the interest of teenagers turn to firearms, and even more rarely to the Constitution, particularly the Second Amendment . . ." ...

"A group of self-described 'gun violence prevention advocates' has announced it will deliver a petition this afternoon to the Washington, D.C. television station where investigative reporter and author Emily Miller works, demanding that she be dismissed because of her pro-Second Amendment views, in what amounts to a direct assault on her First Amendment rights." ...

[a] book [which] detailed Miller’s personal saga as she worked through a deliberately discouraging system in Washington, D.C. to obtain a city permit to keep a handgun at home ..." ...

"One of the problems with hiring lobbyists to lie for you in a public forum is that eventually, they might slip up and tell the truth instead. Something along those lines appears to have happened recently during a hearing a Vermont Senate committee was holding on a gun control bill. Lobbyist Tyler Wilkinson-Ray, hired by the ironically-named group Gun Sense Vermont, was giving testimony, when he cut loose with the civilian disarmament version of a Kinsley gaffe: it turns out that Gun Sense Vermont needs to get its marching orders — 'national expertise' was the euphemism Wilkinson-Ray mumbled — from HQ in New York . . ." ...

... "Fifth, I do believe Dr. King would have strong words to say on the increasing gun violence in our nation. We now have the highest homicide rate in the developed world. ... We have lost some 10,000 Americans to gun violence just since the Newtown shootings ... that’s more Americans that we’ve lost in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined. But some of our elected officials are still more concerned with what the gun lobby wants than with what the vast majority of their constituents want. Without losing the Second Amendment right to bear arms, surely we could require background checks, make gun trafficking a federal crime and ban assault weapons. It is absurd for ordinary citizens to have as much or more firepower than police have." ...

... "The video is effective, capturing the reactions of people as they are disabused of the notion that owning a gun makes you safe and reminded that having a gun in your house just makes it that much likelier that someone in the house, by accident or on purpose, will shoot themselves or someone else. Apparently, the gun lobby thinks it’s, well, too effective, as Rachel Maddow reported on Friday. The official NRA affiliate in New York, the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association (NYSRPA) is trying to use the law to criminalize this video and participation in it. They want the state to use laws meant to ensure gun safety to be used to persecute people for speaking out for gun safety. ..." ...

"Following the tragic shootings at the Sandy Hook School on Dec. 14, 2012, I founded Team 26 and rode with a group of 26 cyclists from Sandy Hook to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. We rode to honor the memories of the 20 precious 1st graders and six dedicated educators, including my daughter's former 3rd grade teacher, to raise awareness of the epidemic of gun violence, and to press Congress to act."

"Gun control advocates lost at the federal level after the horrific Sandy Hook shooting. They’re now focusing at the state-level, trying to emulate the success of the gay marriage movement. Given that Republicans represent the most state legislatures since 1920 and two-thirds of the governorships, I doubt this shift will be successful. In essence, gun control is dead. The movement may make some inroads in states that are already notoriously anti-gun, but it’s probably not going to expand in the foreseeable future (which is a good thing)."

"So, with nowhere to go, the gun control advocates have resorted to abject insanity and shaming to get their points across." ...

"Gov. Chris Christie said he would consider revisiting New Jersey’s strict gun laws if he had a Republican-led legislature."

"In response to a question about his support for the Second Amendment, the potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate said that New Jersey’s Democrat-led Legislature has sent him only bills that further restrict these rights, many of which he has vetoed."

"Beason also spoke to the group about protecting Second Amendment rights, quoting George Washington and Samuel Adams – who he quipped were 'right-wing conservatives' – along with Florentine historian Niccolo Machiavelli on the right to bear arms. He described the issue as 'very near and dear to my heart.'"

"'We have people that just believe you don’t have a right to defend yourself,' Beason said."

"He contended those who argue against the Second Amendment have not handled a gun, do not understand how to use the weapon and do not 'appreciate history.' Beason also questioned a bank security guard’s right to be armed, while he said a mother could not legally carry a gun to protect her children." ...

"Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are taking to task the [FDIC] and its involvement with Operation Choke Point, the federal program that lets banks deny business to outlets that deal in guns and ammunition."

"The FDIC is the main agency in charge of regulating the nation’s ... financial institutions."

"Critics of the program say it’s an underhanded way of dinging the Second Amendment without having to go through Congress because it hits at the lifeline of certain businesses perceived as unsavory by politicians in power. Specifically, opponents say the feds press financial institutions to abstain from dealing with gun companies, ammunition dealers and the like and in certain cases, cut off their funding and access to services." ...

"The gun-friendly state of Texas is poised to become more strapped than ever."

"Though the first months of its legislative session were dominated by armed rallies, threats, and heated confrontations ... two fast-tracked pro-gun bills sailed out of the Republican-dominated State Senate last week — one allowing concealed handguns on campus and the other permitting concealed handgun license holders to openly carry handguns throughout Texas. "Both chambers of the Tennessee legislature gave wide approval Monday to a measure that will allow employees to sue their employer if they are fired for storing a gun in their car while on the job."

"The measure is a clarification to a law passed last year allowing concealed carry holders to store firearms in the trunks of parked cars, even if it is against the property owner’s wishes. However, subsequent opinions by the state attorney general left the interpretation of whether an employer could discipline an employee found to store a firearm in their vehicle." ...

"Crime stats published by the FBI and relied upon by the media distort the gun violence and leave the public with the impression 'mass shooting' incidents are a much bigger threat than they really are, according to a criminologist and Second Amendment scholar."

"The bureau's annual reports tabulating and classifying a wide range of crime throughout the nation have been historically free of politics, but John Lott, president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, said the latest statistics contain numbers that are misleading at best and deliberately fudged at worst. Lott believes the numbers may have been presented to overstate for political purposes the true risk of being a victim of random gun crimes." ...

"The recent firearms sales surge isn’t so recent. It started in the months before President Obama took office. If you recall, the anti-gun mainstream media attributed the dramatic surge to OFWG racist paranoia. Still do, in fact. Anyway, since then, gun sales have risen and fallen – but mostly risen. A lot. Polls 'reveal' that gun ownership has remained steady, but the polls are wrong – as we’ve explained numerous times. As states restore Americans’ natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms – making it easier to obtain concealed carry licenses and suchlike – more and more Americans are keeping and bearing arms. Where they aren’t they aren’t. To wit, Hawaii . . ." ...

"We say that not because we are anti-gun, but because carrying a gun also brings with it tremendous responsibilities on the part of the carrier."

"We were happy that the Legislature reworked the measure to raise the age at which one could legally carry a concealed weapon from 18 to 21."
