"The United Sportsmen of Florida have compiled two fact sheets that provide a wealth of insight into the safety of gun ownership, hunting and shooting."

"Citing data sources including the National Center for Health Statistics, the National Safety Council, the Bureau of the Census, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and firearms industry reports, the 2009 Fact Sheet on Firearms Accidents proves that despite a doubling of our country's population since 1930, and a quintupling in the number of privately owned firearms, the annual number of accidental firearms deaths has decreased 75%. In fact, the fatal firearm accident rate has decreased 92% since the all-time high recorded in 1904." ...

Clueless in California

"In California, they've already passed so many draconian restrictions on private gun ownership that it's apparently getting difficult for them to think of any new ones. So, when a career violent felon (and apparent child rapist) murders four cops, which he was able to do despite the most restrictive state gun laws in the country, and when the legislators still want to diagnose the problem as one of not enough gun laws, they have to get creative. ..." ...

"Keep in mind, we're not talking about banning 'large capacity' magazines--that's already done in California. The problem here is that the non-reduced capacity magazine prohibition ... does not work, so now the idea is to create another law, to help the first law work." ...

Gun Rights and the Constitution: Was Heller Insignificant?

"Has the Supreme Court decision in District of Columbia v. Heller ... been of almost no significance? So claimed the New York Times in a recent article by Supreme Court reporter Adam Liptak. Unfortunately, Liptak's article followed in a long New York Times tradition of credulously reporting the claims of one anti-gun professor, without conducting sufficient research to see if the claims hold up."

"Let's start with the most obvious facts which the Times overlooked. On the day that Heller was decided, the citizens of five Chicago suburbs ... were prohibited from owning guns. ..."

"Today ... [i]n four of the five Chicago suburbs ... the handgun bans have been repealed. Yet according to the Times, 'So far, Heller is firing blanks.'" ...

"... Tonight, prominent, anti-gun talk host Milt Rosenburg of WUGN radio will host a debate between Cato Institute Chairman Bob Levy – who masterminded the Supreme Court’s landmark Heller V. D.C. decision – and Dennis Henigan, policy director of Handgun Control, Inc. (aka 'The Brady Campaign'). The topic will be no less than repeal of the Second Amendment." ...

"... To give you an idea of who is debating, Levy engineered and bankrolled the Heller lawsuit which led to the U.S. Supreme Court affirming the individual rights interpretation of the Second Amendment. Dennis Henigan has been lead counsel for Handgun Control, including coordinating various city's lawsuits against gun manufacturers." ...

"In a debate that is announced properly as a prize fight – aired on WGNRadio.com and elsewhere – the repeal of the Second Amendment to our Bill of Rights is now fiercely and seriously offered by the left in America."

"For years, I've written on how relevant the armed citizen is in self-rule, to everyone, even to non-gun owners, and I can furnish a few key points for non-gun owners to apply in their following the debate. If you can’t make it to tonight’s debate on WGNradio.com, look for podcasts or other media re-broadcasting it." ...

"The gun-grabbers are at it again, or at least they were until Eric Holder's call for a new assault weapons ban ran into a wall of bipartisan opposition in Congress. "Now we do. It's the drug-driven death and violence in Mexico at the hands of ruthless criminal cartels."

"Though a new face to some, Holder is a rabid Second Amendment foe from the Clinton administration who helped orchestrate the 1994 Clinton gun ban." ...

"Crimes involving firearms are particularly worrying because they frequently end up in death or injury."

"One often gets the impression that some nervous, inexperienced crook gets hold of a gun, which then gives him the confidence to hold up some fast-food outlet or petrol station."

"Then, when the owner or a passer-by shows some resistance, the nervous crook pulls the trigger, only to later claim that he did not actually realise what he was doing."

Mitchell even went as far to push the Secretary of State to 'challenge the gun lobby,' and 'reinstitute,' the ban."

"After fierce resistance from the gun lobby and its allies in Congress, Attorney General Eric Holder has dialed back talk about reimposing a federal assault weapons ban to help curb the spiraling violence in Mexico."

"As much as 90 percent of the assault weapons and other guns used by Mexican drug cartels are coming from the United States, fueling drug-related violence that is believed to have killed more than 7,000 people since January 2008, according to estimates by Mexican and U.S. law enforcement officials. "Can we actually expect the government to secure our 2,000-mile border with Mexico when politicians on every level can't even agree on closing a teeny, tiny loophole in the law that allows some very bad people to purchase some very big guns?"

A bobcat attacked three people in a community in central Arizona, including two men who were bitten when the animal wandered inside a bar.

Officers called to the Chapparal Bar in Cottonwood arrived to find the bobcat in the parking lot, where they shot and killed it, KVRD-FM radio reported.

Tests were ordered to determine if the animal was rabid. It wasn't clear how seriously the victims had been injured.

Cottonwood police say the animal attacked Monday when it scratched a woman who thought she had hit it with her car. Then police got a report of a bobcat acting aggressively toward a woman outside a Pizza Hut.

Later came the call from the bar that a bobcat was inside as patrons climbed atop bar stools to get away.

"... Ross said he had led the effort, which included a 65-member delegation. The group wrote a letter in opposition to reinstating the weapons ban, which had recently been discussed by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder."

"Ross said his reasons for speaking out against the weapons ban are simple. 'The Second Amendment to the Constitution gives[sic] us all the right to own firearms,' Ross said. FULL TEXT BELOW:

A proposed amendment to the Kansas Constitution to guarantee an individual's right to own a firearm is one step from going to a statewide vote.

The House gave first-round approval on a voice vote Wednesday to a resolution containing the proposed change. House members expect to take final action Monday.

If it is adopted then with a two-thirds majority, it will go on the November 2010 general election ballot. The Senate adopted it Tuesday, 39-1.

The state constitution already says: "The people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security."

But a 1905 Kansas Supreme Court decision said it's a collective, not an individual, right. The proposed amendment would give the right to each person.

The officer had pulled over Moats as he and relatives were hurrying to see his dying mother-in-law. Powell drew his gun, threatened the NFL player and held him in the parking lot, officials said. By the time Moats got inside, the woman had died.

Kunkle said the department is "embarrassed and disappointed."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The supposed quietude of a good mans allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside...Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them... — Thomas Paine, I Writings of Thomas Paine at 56 (1894).
