"Kerry has voted with the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence 100 percent the time, and he has earned a grade of 'F' from the powerful National Rifle Association – as well as a 0 percent rating with Gun Owners of America. He opposes granting gun makers immunity from civil lawsuits arising wrongful use of weapons, supports renewing the ban on assault-type weapons, and would require the same background checks at gun shows that are mandatory for other gun sales."

"Kerry’s stump message in a nutshell: I’m a hunter. I like to hunt and shoot guns. I believe heartily in the right to bear arms. But, stick with me now, we gun-totters can certainly stand some common sense rules of gun responsibility." ...

"On the Record:

"Kerry voted for the assault weapons ban contained in the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1993, restricting the manufacture, transfer, and possession of certain semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices. ..."

"Kerry voted for the Brady Bill in November 1993. ..."

"Kerry voted against the motion to table (defeat) the Boxer/Kohl Amendment, requiring that all handguns sold in the United States be sold with a child safety lock. ..."

"Kerry voted against the Craig Amendment that would have required that gun stores have trigger locks in stock and available for sale. ..."

"Kerry voted against the Large Ammunition Magazine Ban Amendment to ban the importation of large capacity ammunition feeding devices. ..."

"Kerry voted against the motion to table (defeat) the Child Access Prevention Amendment to increase penalties for individuals who permit juvenile access to firearms. ..."

"Kerry voted for the Lautenberg Gun Show Amendment to the Violent and Repeat Juvenile Offender Accountability and Rehabilitation Act of 1999 to close the loophole allowing individuals to sell guns from their private collections at gun shows without completing background checks for purchasers. ..."

"Kerry voted against the motion to table (defeat) the Ban on Unlicensed Sale of Guns on Internet, an amendment to the Violent and Repeat Juvenile Offender Accountability and Rehabilitation Act of 1999 banning the unlicensed sale of guns on the Internet by requiring websites clearly designed to sell guns to be federally licensed firearms dealers and to comply with all such federal laws. ..."

"People accuse me of being a single-issue writer, a single- issue thinker, and a single- issue voter, but it isn't true. What I've chosen, in a world where there's never enough time and energy, is to focus on the one political issue which most clearly and unmistakably demonstrates what any politician -- or political philosophy -- is made of, right down to the creamy liquid center." ...

"If a politician isn't perfectly comfortable with the idea of his average constituent, any man, woman, or responsible child, walking into a hardware store and paying cash -- for any rifle, shotgun, handgun, machinegun, anything -- without producing ID or signing one scrap of paper, he isn't your friend no matter what he tells you."

"Any attempt to eradicate the 2nd Amendment would be tantamount to a crime against the people of this country, and indeed humanity, perpetrated by a despotic and tyrannical group of people who seek nothing but dominion over their fellow human beings!"

"Some have referred to the Constitution of the United States of America as simply a political or a legal document, but it is far more than that! It is a HUMANISTIC document, which asserts the necessity for self determination above and beyond all other human constructs, yet does not deny the importance of God in people's lives. ..."

"...a growing body of research has revealed that the practice of chemically matching bullets is seriously flawed." ...

"For several years, statisticians, metallurgists, and others outside the FBI have questioned the courtroom use of bullet chemical analyses. Now, the National Academies' report, Forensic Analysis: Weighing Bullet Lead Evidence, has brought the practice into the spotlight. That report, combined with past studies detailing the forensic tool's shortcomings, could call into question many past convictions in which results of the chemical analysis of bullets was introduced as evidence."

"First developed in the 1960s, bullet chemical analysis has been used by prosecutors when a suspect's weapon is not available or when the bullet found at a crime scene is too fragmented to permit visual inspection of the characteristic markings that firearms leave on intact bullets."

"What I do want to stress is this: gun owners don't have many friends apart from other gun owners. There are a few who are on our side on general principles but don't own guns themselves, but the majority of people you will see that believe in an individual having the Right to Arms are gun owners. & hell, even some gun owners aren't our friends. We do have a lot of enemies, both in ideology & fact."

"So what I would recommend is if you know anyone who advocates civilian disarmament or who actively advances it (such as those people named above) then politely try to change their minds. Convince them that what they're doing or encouraging hurts not only themselves but everyone in our society. If you honestly attempt to sway them & they still persist in their encouragement of civilian disarmament then politely but firmly tell them that you've got no choice but to take it personally & as such you'll be disassociating yourself from them. Don't do business with them; don't go to social events with them; don't invite them to dinner, etc. Leave an invitation open to discuss their views on civilian disarmament but make it clear that that's it."

"After nearly 40 years, the Army is ready to replace the M-16 rifle, a weapon introduced in the jungles of Vietnam and still carried by troops in the deserts of Iraq."

"The replacement, called the XM-8, is under development at Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, N.J., and is being tested at Fort Benning, Ga."

"Developers say the new rifle with the futuristic-looking curves is a marked improvement over the M-16 because it is shorter, lighter, easier to clean and unlikely to jam in a firefight -- an M-16 shortcoming illustrated in the ambush that wounded former POW Jessica Lynch and killed 11 of her comrades in Iraq."

"Rifles are being advertised for children as young as six, shocking parent groups who say it encourages children to kill."

"The advertisement features in a hunting and fishing mail-order catalogue and promotes the guns - imported from the United States - using a picture of a six-year-old boy alongside his 'kill' (a goat) and the words: 'Take a kid hunting with the deadly wee Chipmunk Rimfire.' It says the guns are 'custom made just for kids'."

"Suppliers have defended the ad, saying the $399 rifle is designed for children and is safer than other rifles they would use."

"But the ad has outraged the children's commissioner and parents' groups. They say they don't want New Zealand to import the kind of killing culture the gun represents."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

(Thursday, March 25, 2004) -- Meadville area gun dealer Daryl Sivik was apprehended by federal agents this morning, as heavily armed investigators raided his Williamson Road gun business in West Mead Township.

Sivik could be facing federal firearms charges in connection with Thursday’s raid. During the raid dozens of heavily armed ATF agents wearing flak jackets, helmets and carrying military style weapons swarmed the area around Sivik`s gun shop around 9:00 this morning.

State police closed the road for hundreds of yards in each direction. Dogs were also used by investigators at the scene.

Gun dealer Daryl Sivik is an outspoken critic of the federal government, and is not a stranger to controversy. He's known to be a supporter of local militias and back in 1998, Sivik put an unlicensed low power pirate radio station on the air from a make shift studio on his property. The content can be described as extremely right wing. Sivik also leads an annual UN flag burning ceremony in downtown Meadville to protest US involvement in the United Nations.

In 2003, Sivik unsuccessfully ran for elected office as a West Mead Township Supervisor.

By Thursday afternoon Sivik was in federal custody in Erie facing a variety of charges.

Isn't it instructive to know that an organization called First Amendment Foundation is using the First Amendment to attack the Second.

"Dale Parker of Utah says he can carry his Colt double-action six-shot revolver as part of his Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms."

"But an appeals court has said otherwise, ruling there was insufficient proof that possession of the firearm he used for self-defense and target practice was related to participation in a well-regulated state militia."

" 'Parker has presented no evidence that his revolver would come within the category of arms used by the military,' Judge Mary Beck Briscoe of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals wrote on Wednesday ..."

The citizen militia are NOT the military. Among other things, they protect the U.S. from its government supported by tyrannical judges such as this one.

"...Most of the old tommies were junked or sold off to Third World militaries that have by now junked them. The few operating survivors escalated exponentially in value -- especially after a 1986 federal law froze the number of automatic weapons in the country -- and therefore disappeared into private collections, where high-end aficionados could admire them over a glass of fine port in front of the fireplace after a hard day clipping coupons."

"So if you called out, 'Where's my tommy gun?,' the answer would be: 'In your local millionaire's mansion.' But today it's different."

"Dear Mr. Dad: Should I tell my preschoolers about guns? We don't watch violent programming or own any toy guns and no one I know even owns one. But you can't turn on the TV or open a newspaper these days without a story about someone getting shot. What should I do?"

"A: To start with, continue to keep your children far away from violent media, including children's programs that involve guns and gun-like lasers. Don't allow them to play with toy guns, especially realistic-looking ones. But be realistic -- you can't shield your children forever. One of these days they'll come across a gun and it's critical that they know what it is and that it's dangerous."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
I now think the only way to control handgun use is to prohibit the guns. And the only way to do that is to change the Constitution. — M. Gartner, then President of NBC News, USA Today, January 16, 1992, pg. A9
