... "The thing is, the contest discriminates against the very people Obama’s Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says have 'earned the right to be citizens' – illegal aliens, including many so-called 'DREAMers.' If they truly believe that, why haven't the same people also earned the right to win OFA contests?"

"'Promotion open to all U.S. citizens, or lawful permanent U.S. residents who are legal residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia and 18 or older ...' the contest rules state. Whether the terms 'lawful' and 'legal' now apply to illegals who have been given work permits making them eligible to apply for law enforcement jobs in Obama’s old Chicago and Hawaii stomping grounds is unclear." ...

"Lawyers for the Department of Justice submitted a memorandum Friday in the United States District Court, Southern District of California, in support of defendant’s motion to dismiss Lycurgan, Inc., dba Ares Armor vs. B. Todd Jones [successor name to be substituted], in his official capacity as Head of the San Diego Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case involves Ares’ contention that ATF erred and overstepped its authority in declaring the firm’s EP80 polymer precursor receivers ('80 percent receivers') to be complete receivers, and thus 'firearms' as defined by the Gun Control Act of 1968." ...

"Judging from her bio at Black Heart Magazine, one would think that Katie Jeddeloh would make an excellent opinion columnist. An English/Poli Sci/Philosophy triple major at Saint Olaf College should be able to write clearly and eloquently, be familiar with how governments and their citizens interact and be able to pick the wheat from the chaff while examining different arguments. Sadly, those skills aren’t evident in her piece 'Ban on bullets incites NRA anger' posted in the Manitou Messenger, St. Olaf’s student newspaper . . ." ...

"Due to differences with a crowd-sourcing website that had previously been used, a prominent name in gun rights advocacy has taken point on fundraising to support a lawsuit challenging federal restrictions on post-1986 machine gun ownership. The Heller Foundation alerted its supporters in a Friday email and corresponding post to its Twitter feed that it has joined with the plaintiff and his attorneys by promoting, collecting and administering financial support for the Hollis v. Holder lawsuit." ...

"This was originally intended as a response to Bruce Krafft’s 'Schooling a Young Scholar' posted last week, but then realized I had quite a bit more to say. I once read a bumper sticker that said, 'Our political discussion has been reduced to reading each other’s bumper stickers.' At the time, I chuckled and thought that it was fairly original for a bumper sticker and moved on. ... However, as time has worn on, our political and cultural environment has consistently brought that bumper sticker to mind. I now believe the statement can be expanded to say, 'Our political discussion has been reduced to reading each other’s asynchronous communication.' I say this because I don’t believe there is any actual discussion taking place ..." ...

"'On Thursday morning, a handful of anti-gun-violence activists realized there is an app in the Google Play Store with their names on it—literally,' fastcompany.com reports. 'The app, Gunfree Geo Marker, features a map pinpointing the home and work addresses of politicians, gun control organization employees, and 'random anti-gun trolls' who ‘push the anti-gun agenda in any way, shape or form.' Clicking on a person’s name in the menu reveals their address on a Google map, along with the app creator’s reasons for including that person in the app.' The practice – known as 'doxing' – sounds an awful lot like harassment. "Opponents of the Second Amendment and haters of self-defense are facing a relentless barrage of pro-Second Amendment and pro-self-defense legislation in state legislatures across the country."

"It is as if the GOP took a page out of the Democrats’ book–improved, then applied it–so that just as the Democrats flooded legislatures with gun control measures in early 2013, Republicans are now flooding legislatures with bills broadening the exercise of Second Amendment rights and protecting the use of firearms for self-defense." ...

"We’ve written about the Kafkaesque case of Brian Aitken before. You may have heard about what can happen to someone caught in America’s armpit with so much as a single .22 hollow point round. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says the Garden State’s hideous gun laws aren’t his fault. That’s probably true, at least in part. Most of the damage to residents’ civil rights was done before he was ever elected to office. The question is . . ." ...

"In terms of reacting fast to a sudden deadly threat, does it matter how you carry an unholstered or unslung weapon or where you rest your trigger finger before making the decision to shoot? In other words, does any one of the various ready positions commonly taught in police firearms training really give you a significant edge in response time? A two-part study by the Force Science Institute reported in the current issue of the peer-reviewed journal Law Enforcement Executive Forum provide some answers that may surprise you if you’re a strong advocate for particular positioning . . ." ...

"The humble rifle sling is one of the most valued, yet strangely enough, under used part of a rifle. Anyone who has ever served their country or just hunted this great land knows the value of a rifle sling. It is used in the act of shooting, transporting your rifle from place to place and allows you to use both hands while keeping your rifle close or transitioning to a handgun. In the worst of times it has served as a tourniquet and saved lives. But most of the time I find it’s left behind until the time its needed most and not available. Wise hunters and shooters carry their slings with them for times like this. But which sling to buy ..." ...

Guns for Beginners: Three Tips for Open Carry

"When I blogged the heinous murder of a Philadelphia dog walker in a 'safe' neighborhood, two things struck me. First, that the killers admitted to searching for an easy target. Second, the murderous villains would not have considered a dog walker openly carrying a firearm an easy target. Yes, there is that. I’m a firm proponent of open carry for comfort, firearms normalization (which defends and extends gun rights) and deterrence. But there’s an important if statistically improbable concern: firearm retention. You don’t want someone using your gun against you. If you’re new to guns and want to open carry, excellent! Here are three tips for dealing with that issue . . ." ...

'This year, designers from FOSSCAD has (sic) raised the bar yet again. They’ve successfully crafted and test fired the receiver for a Colt CM109 modular battle rifle — the AR-15’s badass big brother.' Badass? "If Sen. Marco Rubio has his way does it mean that the U.S Capitol would no longer need those ubiquitous metal detectors and the other extensive security measures the nation has spent tens of millions of dollars to ensure his safety?"

"Would all those government buildings where security is pervasive and cumbersome be open once again to free access because everyone would have the same opportunity to arm him or herself for protection eliminating the need for the government to do so? In fact, it might not be just their Second Amendment right but also their duty to do so. Think of all the money that could be saved." ...

... "The Republican bill, introduced Thursday by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), would ease gun restrictions in the District by banning the city council from making gun control laws and aligning D.C. law with federal firearm commerce law."

"D.C. has long had some of the harshest gun laws in the country, and while a landmark Supreme Court case struck down some of its most restrictive measures, gun owners still face many hurdles—particularly when it comes to concealed carry. The Rubio-Jordan bill would create a 'shall-issue' permit system for concealed carry, and repeal D.C.’s firearm registration system." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
You are bound to meet misfortune if you are unarmed because, among other reasons, people despise you....There is simply no comparison between a man who is armed and one who is not. It is unreasonable to expect that an armed man should obey one who is unarmed, or that an unarmed man should remain safe and secure when his servants are armed. In the latter case, there will be suspicion on the one hand and contempt on the other, making cooperation impossible. — Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince."
