"In our devotion to Happiness we've abdicated our personal responsibility to self-fulfillment. If something gets in the way of Happiness, or if something brings pain and suffering, outlaw it, tax it, or sue it to non-existence; never mind that work and risk are necessary to reach fulfillment. Constant Happiness to all is our nirvana; fulfillment takes too long and involves too much work."

Current law states only that they cannot possess handguns.

He said the city has no plans to search visitors to public buildings or install metal detectors."

"That the interests of the ATF and the NRA converge comes as no surprise. The ATF has a history -- under presidents 41 through 43 -- of leaving its citizens in the dark. And the NRA maintains a deep-rooted fear of public access to impartial information regarding guns and a paranoid view of gun-owner "privacy." That the Bush administration is the most tight-lipped, pro-gun administration in recent memory doesn't help matters, either."

"Reacting to a pair of domestic murders on the east side of town, Rome officials Monday announced they are considering a gun buy-back program to remove firearms from homes. Leaders said they want to give citizens a place to give up their guns in exchange for money, taking guns out of homes and out of reach. 'We’re a good alternative to a pawn shop,' said Rome police commander Lonzo Roberson."

“ 'If there’s no gun around, at least we can prevent a murder,' Bennett said."

Police expect to distribute six to 10 alarms a year. West Allis officers responded to 652 domestic violence calls in 2002."
