Democrats still treat gun owners as the enemy

"After two years filled with pontifications, photo-op pheasant hunts, visits to gun ranges and shooting events, leading Democrats who have been insisting that they support the rights of gun owners have pretty much put an end to that lie."

"During two days of debate and two hours of voting on legislation that would have protected lawful gun makers from frivolous lawsuits, Democrats returned to their old habit of demonizing guns and the people who own them."

"If you are a uniformed Police Officer of any rank and do not fully, and honorably support the pre-existing God given rights enumerated in the 2nd Amendment, you are a disgrace to your Badge and your oath of office to protect and serve. The citizens of the United States of America deserve better than you. You should not be allowed the honor of public service as a sworn peace officer of the law. Taking a contrary, selective position to the Constitution means you are not following the supreme law of the land and are, in fact, endangering the safety of yourself, your fellow officers, and the public you are sworn to protect. This dishonor is increased if you support any (so- called) 'Police Fraternal Organization' that aligns itself with groups seeking to infringe, limit, or destroy the 2nd Amendment (Such as 'Handgun Control Incorporated,' etc). This dishonor is increased if you support any State or Federal Attorney General, Legislator (Politician); or local Government body that have de facto reneged on their sworn oath to 'Protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign or domestic.' For these individuals (by endorsing 'gun control") have become the 'domestic enemies' embodied in that oath."

"Like a bird dog cautiously skirting a diamondback rattler, all through the primaries the Democrats have shied away from the subject of gun control."

"It had formerly been one of their favorite issues, but with Al Gore's loss of his home state of Tennessee ...in the 2000 election, they finally woke up to the fact that instead of winning them votes ...their anti-gun policies were costing them dearly." ...

"The bill had become somewhat academic because most of the lawsuits filed against gun makers were dismissed without going to trial. ..."

"But the Democrats couldn't resist crowing loud and long about their victory in killing the Lawful Commerce bill. If a victory is what it was, then they won it at considerable cost."

"Democrats like to accuse Republicans of using guns as a 'wedge issue' in the culture wars, but just ask Dean, Gore or Michigan Rep. And whenever it becomes a contest between trial-lawyer money and the voting power of gun owners, gun owners have trial lawyers beat every time."

Here's the paragraph in question:

"However, the DNJ has long been what would be nicely called a sleepy newspaper. The happy-looking sun at the top accompanies happy news about the whole community, save the crime stories. MTSU is great, the city of Murfreesboro and its mayor are great, the sheriff and his merry band of thugs are great, and so on." ...

"...the Sheriff's Department decided to send a letter to Sidelines' editor Patrick Chinnery threatening legal action over the paper's 'libelous' statement against the Sheriff's Department and to see if any member of the staff may have been enacting a vendetta against the Department. In addition to this, a background check was run on everyone listed on the Sidelines' staff box (some of whom aren't even on the editorial board, and two who aren't even students) to see if anyone would have reason to enact a vendetta."

NY: New fees will hurt legal gun owners

FULL TEXT BELOW

In late January, Gov. George Pataki promised no new taxes in his proposed 2004-2005 budget. What the governor forgot to mention was a slew of increased fees. Over the past two weeks, my district office has received more than 500 phone calls and letters in opposition to the proposed fee increase on pistol permits in New York State.

I strongly oppose the governor's proposal to have a five-year, renewable pistol license with a charge of $100, plus $25 for each endorsement. This proposal punishes legitimate gun owners and places an extensive burden on the Erie County clerk, who maintains about 70,000 pistol licenses.

As pistol permit holders, we must voice our opposition to this proposal and protect our Second Amendment rights.

Because too many accidents happen with gun owners, Indiana conservation officers held a firearm safety class Saturday. The idea is to make sure everyone who owns a gun, or has access to a gun, knows how to properly handle it. The free course covered how to properly store the firearm, where to store it, and how to make sure the gun is always unloaded. Many people who attended the two hour class are new gun owners. To bring home the message of safety everyone at the class was given a gun cable lock.

The next class is scheduled for March 27th at Gander Mountain. Call the Indiana Conservation Office at 317-694-3034 for more information.

Since the 1999 Columbine High School killings, the Pike Township school has operated a zero tolerance policy on objects that could be used as a weapon, like most school chiefs across America.

Jacob Finklea, 12, had previously hurt his hand using school scissors, so his mother gave him a pair from home to use in the sewing class. When his teacher told the class to place supplies on the desks, he laid the scissors out as well.

"I put the scissors on the desk and she (the teacher) just freaked out," Jacob told IndyChannel.com. Jacob has now been expelled from the school. The school has "vigorously defended" the procedure on the website.
