Today, most of us are pretty familiar with revolvers chambered for cartridges normally reserved for semi-autos. Both S&W and Ruger now catalog a handful of revolvers in 9mm, which have garnered enthusiastic buyers due to the caliber’s affordability and availability. Long before that, S&W, Colt and Ruger all produced revolvers in .45 ACP. |

For many gun buyers, the lure of getting guns with special stories or pairs with consecutive serial numbers is irresistible. My good friend, Kirk Stovall of Bozeman, Mont., has four sets of such special firearms. Two pairs are of modern manufacture and two pairs dated from the late 19th century with interesting histories. |

At the turn of the 20th Century, the U.S. Army fielded an impressive array of "disappearing" guns along the American seacoast and few remain. Guns.com recently caught up to one of these scarce historical pieces. We present to you, a 6-inch rapid-fire rifled gun, Model of 1905, Serial No. 30, on Disappearing Carriage, Model of 1903, located at Battery Cooper near Fort Pickens on Santa Rosa Island in West Florida, just a few miles off Pensacola Beach. Once common, it is one of just two still in existence in the country in its original format. |

As a kid in the ’80s, I grew up seeing guns like the SKS and AK-47 on television and in the movies. So, as a gun nut, it was only a matter of time before I got my hands on both. Today’s rifle was designed toward the end of the Second World War and incorporates many features valued in the last century’s warfare. While originally from the Soviets, today’s example comes to us from China and was manufactured and imported to the U.S. by the same company. Meet the Norinco SKS. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
You are bound to meet misfortune if you are unarmed because, among other reasons, people despise you....There is simply no comparison between a man who is armed and one who is not. It is unreasonable to expect that an armed man should obey one who is unarmed, or that an unarmed man should remain safe and secure when his servants are armed. In the latter case, there will be suspicion on the one hand and contempt on the other, making cooperation impossible. — Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince." |
