The Arizona House tentatively passed a bill today to change the distance of hunting wildlife.
The bill allows hunters to shoot wildlife within a quarter of a mile, but outside one-eighth of a mile of an occupied home or cabin without the owner’s permission. The same would apply to crossbow shooting.
Representatives on both sides are arguing the safety of the distance and whether that is too close to homes. |

A 47-year-old Challis man, charged with three felonies — including assault with intent to murder — after an armed incident at his home last spring when he fired a gun at two other city residents was acquitted on the charges after a Custer County jury said he acted in self-defense.
Curtis Lee Caton, a U.S. Forest Service employee at the time, was held at the Lemhi County Jail for nearly a year as he waited for his day in court on the alleged violent offenses. SWAT teams were called to his Central Idaho home in May 2024 after Challis residents called police to report that Caton had fired a handgun at their vehicle, shattering their back window.

A Prichard man has been acquitted of murder. Keenta Todd was arrested two years ago after investigators said he shot and killed George Lavon Bush. Thursday, a jury found Todd not guilty of murder.
Todd’s attorney, Chalea Tisdale, said Todd cried when he found out he is now a free man.
This all stems from January of 2023, Tisdale says Todd and Bush were riding around after drinking and started arguing.
According to Tisdale, Todd tried to get out of the car but Bush wouldn’t let him and said “I’ve got something for you” and reached for a gun. |

Every other sentient being that doesn’t think the white man’s ice is colder noticed the double standard here in their treatment of Karmelo Anthony compared to Kyle Rittenhouse after he claimed self-defense.
Much as I can understand that Jeff Metcalf is a grieving father making a public plea in earnest, we live in America where everything is racialized, and racism is very much a driving political ideology for many.
To ignore that is to play dumb.
And respectfully, whether Jeff is conscious of it or not, he contributed to the problem. |

The Chattanooga Police Department is currently investigating a claim of self-defense in a homicide that occurred on April 7, 2025, in the 3000 block of Towerway Drive. The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon and led to the death of a 51-year-old man, while a 44-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 6:21 p.m., CPD officers responded to a report of a person shot. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the 44-year-old man with gunshot wounds, which were later determined to be non-life-threatening. |

The Arkansas Senate voted 28-7 Thursday (April 10) to advance a proposed constitutional amendment to protect the right to keep and bear arms.
SJR 11, by Sen. John Payton, R-Wilburn, 14 other senators and 47 state representatives, would provide that “citizens of the state of Arkansas shall have the right to keep and bear arms for their common defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use, and for any other lawful purpose; providing that the right to keep and bear arms includes without limitation the possession and use of ammunition, firearm accessories, and firearm components; and providing that the right to keep and bear arms is a natural, fundamental, and individual right that shall not be infringed.” |

In response to that and recent moves by the Trump administration to reduce gun regulations, U.S. Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nevada, and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pennsylvania, on Thursday introduced a bill to ban them again. A previous attempt to reinstate the ban failed last June.
“Nearly eight years after the Harvest Festival massacre we still do not have a federal law banning these deadly devices,” Titus said in a release Wednesday. “Bump stocks continue to pose a threat to innocent lives and Congress must act. Without a federal law firmly banning them, federal regulations and court rulings could allow bump stocks on our streets and in our neighborhoods, raising the risk of more mass shootings.” |

...before the 1970s, firearms and hunter-safety courses were a normal part of the nationwide grade school curriculum? It’s true and makes sense in a country whose Founding documents recognize the inherent right to self-preservation through the Second Amendment. It’s also not difficult to guess where these programs have gone, with political polarization robbing American youth of valuable lessons and substituting that education with propaganda and fear-mongering. By the early 2000s, American children throughout most of the country could not imagine firearm training in their schools, however, a new trend has emerged, with states jumping on board to make this education available to, and sometimes mandatory for, American students. |

The second amendment of the United States constitution guarantees the right of its citizens to bear arms stating in fact that “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed upon”.
Nigeria’s 1999 constitution (as amended) in contrast does not give its own citizens the right to a proper firearm paraphernalia for self-defence. Although you may own a licensed pump action fire arm but this is like owning a broom for protection against possibly a machete wielding attacker because a pump action gun is not going to save an owner if attacked by a population of criminals.

People in Colorado will soon have to pass a background check and complete a state-sanctioned safety course to buy most semiautomatic guns with detachable magazines under a bill signed into law by Democratic Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday.

Marvin Richardson — the ATF’s deputy director — had been serving as the agency’s de facto head during the Trump administration, running the day-to-day operations because ATF’s acting director was largely absent, multiple people familiar with the agency’s operations said. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter. Richardson had worked at the agency for more than 35 years before he opted to retire this week. |

Three weeks after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz shot and killed 17 people at his Parkland high school, then-Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill designed to make sure a similar shooting would never happen again. Now, Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to repeal some provisions in the legislation, he said during his State of the State speech Tuesday.
“The free state of Florida has not exactly led the way on protecting Second Amendment rights,” he said. “We need to be a strong Second Amendment state.”
DeSantis said the state’s laws pale in comparison to those of other conservative states. He pointed to problems with “red flag laws” and legislation increasing the minimum age for firearm purchases from 18 to 21. |

Three bills that would alter Oregon’s gun laws are advancing to the floor of both legislative chambers.
Members of the House and Senate judiciary committees this week voted along party lines to move the bills forward, with Democrats using their majority power in the face of Republican pushback.
The bills would create a 72-hour waiting period for gun purchases, ban rapid-fire devices, initiate a state licensing program for gun dealers and lay the framework to implement Ballot Measure 114.
