"Here's a bad idea about to happen: broad immunity for gun manufacturers, distributors and dealers who negligently provide weapons to criminals and terrorists."

"Legislation working its way through Congress would give that free pass to the gun industry and deny victims of violence the right to seek compensation in court." ...
-------

KABA Note: Actually the bill specifically states that dealers who break the law and manufacturers whose guns blow up are not protected.

"Legislation passed in Kansas last week is a good first step toward bringing the gun rights of Sunflower State residents into the 21st Century, according to the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)."

"The legislation contains a new section that pre-empts local gun ordinances, so that all firearms regulation will be uniform, from one end of the state to the other. Gun control extremists have lashed out at the bill, contending that it prevents Kansas communities from passing their own gun laws." ...

... "If passed, HB 2414 would ban the possession of a wide variety of semiautomatic sporting firearms owned by hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Illinois citizens. Under HB 2414, gun owners would have 90 days to surrender their firearms to the police, or face felony prosecution and stiff jail sentences. Any such firearms they surrender would be forfeited without compensation." ...

"'Since the firearms banned by HB 2414 cost between $800 and $4,000 apiece, many owners have a sizeable investment at stake here,' continued Pearson."

"'It's a safe bet that they are not pleased with the prospect of handing their valuable gun collections over to the local police and going home empty handed.'" ...

"The Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld on Tuesday a lower court's ruling that struck down a law that expanded access to concealed weapons permits because the Legislature passed the law improperly."

"The unanimous ruling by a three-judge panel of the court was a blow to advocates of gun rights. They had backed the 2003 law, which removed most of the power of police chiefs and county sheriffs to deny the permits." ...

Submitter's Note: Actually the Sheriffs retained full discretion, they just had to back it up in court and pay court costs if the court disagreed.

"The enacting bill was tacked onto another piece of legislation to get it through the state Senate, which had resisted voting on the measure as a standalone bill." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: The senate actually had not resisted voting on the bill, the metro area Dems used parliamentary tricks to prevent a vote, when it did reach the floor as an amendment to another bill it passed 37-30.

"Gun violence prevention advocates hailed the decision."

"'This was a bad bill from the start, one that a majority of Minnesotans opposed,' said Mary Heller, president of the Minnesota Million Moms. 'It was only through the sneaky maneuvering of the NRA that it was passed in the first place.'" ...

"The Minnesota Court of Appeals today affirmed a District Court decision that found the 2003 Concealed Carry law unconstitutional. Ramsey County Judge John Finley invalidated Concealed Carry last summer because the method used to pass the law violated the single subject rule of Minnesota's Constitution."

"'The Appeals Court reprimanded Minnesota's legislature for violating the Constitution in order to pass unpopular legislation. The ruling is a victory for the vast majority of Minnesotans who believe that we are safer with fewer loaded handguns on our streets,' said Rebecca Thoman, MD, Executive Director of Citizens for a Safer Minnesota." ...

The woman seemed like the perfect choice of victim, who would capitulate to his demands in seconds — but the gunman had not bargained for the fact that he was going up against Nicola Horlick, known as “Superwoman” for juggling a career in the City with bringing up a large family."
