Robbery try: A gunman forced his way into a house in the first block of Hydroplane Drive in Middle River on Tuesday and tried to rob three male occupants, but fled when one of them threatened to shoot him with a shotgun.

"Fitzgerald was standing behind Leithwalk Elementary School in Northeast Baltimore, smoking marijuana and drinking with a companion at 1 a.m. when he was shot in the head. Police charged Lynch, who was in uniform and making routine rounds of city schools, with firing his department-issued handgun at the boy. Lynch's attorney, Warren A. Brown, claims the shooting was in self-defense."

Guns don't just "go off" by themselves. Ergo, the police officer has to be somehow responsible for the accidental discharge. Too bad a regular citizen would not receive the same courtesy.

School officials suspended two Oak Mountain Middle School students for one day for having toy guns on a school bus.

A bus driver called the Shelby County Sheriff's Department when she saw the two boys on the bus ahead of her with what she thought was a real gun.

School officials say the toy guns were taken to school as part of a literature project on "Treasure Island."
