The Bay State’s ban on the sale of certain semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines does not run afoul of the Second Amendment, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday. A three-judge panel for the First Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously upheld the denial of a preliminary injunction against Massachusetts’ ban on the sale of “assault weapons,” such as the popular AR-15, and ammunition magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds. It determined that the logic of a prior ruling upholding Rhode Island’s ban on certain magazines applied to the weapons banned by Massachusetts law.

A fully encapsulated base bullet (FEB) has just what the name implies – a base (usually lead) that is completely surrounded by another harder metal, such as copper. This type of bullet typically has good accuracy and is primarily for indoor shooting ranges. Some manufacturers call this "clean range" ammo, as they use the FEB bullet and a mercury-free primer to create an environmentally friendly bullet. |

The full metal jacket flat nose (or FMJ-FN) is just as the name implies – a full metal jacketed bullet with a flat nose. This type of ammunition is popular among pistol shooters and is often sold on-site at shooting ranges, both indoor and outdoor. One of the main reasons the nose is flat is so you can more accurately gauge where the round lands on your targets. The diameter is much more pronounced when a target is hit, and some competitions prefer these over normal-style FMJ bullets. |

Liberty Gasper is a sharp shooter and keeps her eye on the prize. She is the Battalion Commander of the Chattahoochee County High School’s JROTC program and the varsity team captain of the school’s rifle team. As a senior, she’s held the captain title for the last two years, but her achievements stretch beyond that.
Gasper qualified for four straight GHSA State Championships and was awarded the area’s top shooter three years in a row. Although she primarily shoots in an individual sport, she said it’s a full team effort.
“It just makes me very proud of my team and their support for me,” Gasper explained.

A firearm advocacy organization is suing the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office for not releasing firearm application forms used in the county.
Michigan Open Carry Inc. filed a lawsuit March 24 against the sheriff’s office, alleging the office broke the Freedom of Information Act by denying a request it release a preapplication form used by the sheriff’s office. The form, the organization alleges, is given to applicants prior to a state-mandated application for a license to purchase a firearm.
The organization asked for both a blank copy of the preapplication form, as well as any forms submitted between Dec. 1, 2024 and the date the request was fulfilled, according to the lawsuit.
