... "'Besides the issues I mentioned to you before about how our reporters in Mexico and Arizona are pretty busy, I think another reason we haven't jumped on this is just the realities of journalism--we don't often follow big, original, exclusive investigative scoops by other organizations. It's just too difficult to replicate, for one. Anyway, the point is, it's not liberal bias...'" ...

"When it comes to the thorny issue of guns, President Barack Obama is finding it difficult to please anyone. Gun control groups are dissatisfied with his progress on the issue, though a recent meeting with Obama administration officials about reducing gun violence may improve relations. Gun-rights groups, on the other hand, paint Obama as an 'anti-gun' President, intent on destroying the Second amendment." ...

"One of the first signs to appear in front of Gabriel Giffords Tucson office memorial, was a sign 'NO GUNS' and the mantra echoed through the country as anti gun zealots capitalized on a horrific and violent attack on the American public. Bloggers saw their ratings go up every time Glock or high capacity magazines where mentioned and sales of these items soared in retaliation by second amendment rights advocates. Where did all this all this get us? Again the sensible and fair thinking majority of Americans where drowned out by left and right wing radicals. ..." ...

Chicago. Here’s a brief excerpt:" ...

"I am constantly amazed at the number of people who believe they’re prepared for a home invasion who are clearly, absolutely not. Don’t get me wrong: if someone doesn’t want to contemplate the idea of bad guys entering their home, that’s OK with me. Depending on whether or not you keep an ounce of blow somewhere on the premises, the odds of a home invasion are lower than the odds of injuring or killing yourself by slipping in the bath. But I have real issue with people who say they’ve got a plan and don’t. After having a friendly chat with (i.e. interrogating) dozens of shooters on the subject, I’ve identified several common profound weaknesses. Let’s start with this: they don’t have a gun . . ." ...

"The National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio are the crown jewel of shooting sports. Since 1903, when President Theodore Roosevelt established the games, thousands of competitors have traveled from the far reaches of the United States to prove themselves worthy of the title 'marksman.' In recent years, the National Matches have been opened to a growing number of customized rifles. The toughest division remains the Service Rifle division. ArmaLite produces a version of their M-15 specifically designed for the National Matches Service Rifle division. The company has graciously loaned me one for testing and evaluation for my summer campaign. No holds barred . . ." ...

"Sam’s thinking about carrying. So I brought a few potential carry pieces to The American Firearms School for her dining and dancing pleasure. To supplement the School’s wide range of handguns, I packed a MPA Protector 380, Ruger SP101, Smith & Wesson hammerless 642, Ruger LC9 and a Springfield XD(m) 9. Oh, and Sam’s Smith & Wesson 686. The 686 is definitely last but not least; it’s morphed from my birthday present to 'Sam’s gun.' To make a long story short, Sam wants to carry . . . her 686. Four inch barrel and 42 ounce heft be damned. She’s dead accurate with it and feels more comfortable (at least psychologically) with .357s on board. But she’s got a bad case of bullet envy . . ." ...

"Remember the Bradys? Not the bunch, but the dedicated couple that has pushed gun control for decades."

"Thirty years ago, Jim Brady was shot in the head as part of the assassination attempt on President Reagan by John Hinckley. At the time, Mr. Brady was the president's press secretary. This week, Brady – in a wheelchair – and his wife, Sarah, visited the Capitol and White House to again advocate for restrictions on guns."

"One marvels that they have not yet given up. ..." ...

Submitter's Note: Why on Earth would they give it up? Until very recently the Brady Campaign has collected enough money to keep Jim and Sarah in a fashion I would love to become accustomed to!

... "Still to be determined by testimony and documentation: Were Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious truly 'sting operations that went very bad,' or will initial allegations from CleanUpATF that one of the motives was to 'pad statistics' get further corroboration? An objective analysis of what has been alleged and what has come to light will show their track record has been pretty good so far." ...

"'The unwillingness of this Administration - most specifically the [ATF] - to answer questions about this deadly serious matter is deeply troubling,' said Chairman Issa said in a statement. 'Allegations surrounding this program are serious and the ability of the Justice Department to conduct an impartial investigation is in question. Congressional oversight is necessary to get the truth about what is really happening.'" ...

"We find it amazingly ironic that a thuggish government agency so historically eager to put average gun stores (most of which try their level best to comply with the Byzantine, arbitrary and ever-changing ATF rulebook) out of business over the most minor of paperwork errors has the unmitigated gall to completely stonewall a Congressional committee trying to answer the simple question of 'Who in the ATF administration signed off on actively allowing thousands of known straw-purchased firearms to be smuggled into Mexico for the purpose of arming the drug cartels in that country, causing the deaths of untold Mexican citizens and at least two U.S. law-enforcement officers?'" ...

... "As a Second Amendment supporter and legal gun owner, I believe the Connecticut law requiring all handgun owners to take a National Rifle Association-certified course on gun safety and purchase a $125 eligibility certificate is a prominent example of political corruption and influence peddling in the American political process. It's nothing more than a politician-approved revenue stream for the NRA that only benefits its own members and does nothing to stem the flow of illegal guns or reduce the number of gun fatalities in Connecticut." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.— Benjamin Franklin Historical Review of Pennsylvania. [Note: This sentence was often quoted in the Revolutionary period. It occurs even so early as November, 1755, in an answer by the Assembly of Pennsylvania to the Governor, and forms the motto of Franklin's "Historical Review," 1759, appearing also in the body of the work. — Frothingham: Rise of the Republic of the United States, p. 413. ]
