This ought to tell you one thing: Bush is no friend of gun owners. Let your vote speak next year, and don't cast it in his direction.

Not for the faint of heart...

" 'Roger and Me' was Moore's first foray into being an irritating prick. It's a documentary in which Moore follows General Motors CEO Roger Smith. Moore tries to embarrass him into explaining layoffs at a GM plant in Flint. The layoffs are never explained. My guess would be that GM came to the realization that Flint sucks and is inhabited by uneducable troglodytes. Michael Moore was born there. Maybe that was the beginning of the end for Flint."

"For this week's action, those who are interested in 'political activism' may wish join in with other gun owners and see if pressure can force Bush to retract his statement. After all, he does have some 'wiggle room;' the statement came from a 'White House spokesperson.' And perhaps an outpouring of 'shock and disgust' from the gun community will pressure a retraction (or correction, as in 'I didn't really mean to imply that ...'). Certainly anything that slows down the mindless march toward a police state is a worthwhile activity, as it gives us more time to work on building a culture of freedom and opposition to tyranny in its many forms."

"The results in Iraq could be similar. Like Russia, it is in a position to build an entirely new tax system from nothing. Thus it need not worry about all the political and transition problems that have made adoption of fundamental tax reform here so difficult. It is gratifying, therefore, that leaders of the new Iraq are said to be looking at a flat rate tax system for their country, according to an April 14 report in Tax Notes."

FULL STORY BELOW:

NEW YORK, NY -- A bouncer was fatally stabbed last week as he attempted to eject patrons for violating the city's no-smoking ban. Many gun control advocates insist this violence is the result of the lax gun laws in New York, and are calling for more gun laws to combat the problem.

Said Nancy Sheldon, spokeswoman for the local chapter of Guns are Always Bad, "The man was assaulted and killed. I hope this sends a clear message to the President that we need another ban on assault weapons. We need to pass gun laws until people stop killing each other."

"Parents are laughing at the intolerance of the zero tolerance rules that have been instituted in so many public schools. Laughing, that is, unless it is their own sons who are victimized by policies that seem to lack common sense. It's a serious matter when a good child is expelled from school, suspended or sent to a detention facility to take classes with real delinquents. Here are some recent examples of how the zero tolerance hatchet is wielded in public schools."

"Activists and academics supportive of restrictive firearms laws often claim that half a million deaths worldwide annually are caused by firearms, or by small arms and light weapons. Although widely repeated, the factoid has no empirical basis. Annual wartimes deaths from firearms in war are closer to 100,000 than to the asserted 300,000. Annual non-war deaths are closer to 50,000 than to the asserted 200,000. Simplistic repetition of the 500,000 factoid obscures important policy issues..."

A blog post, by Glenn Reynolds regarding the nearly-two-year-old, National Academy of Sciences study panel on guns.

"Back in August of 2001, Dave Kopel and I wrote this column about a National Academy of Sciences study panel on guns that seemed rather biased to us. We noted that the study was funded by the anti-gun Joyce Foundation, the anti-gun Packard Foundation, and the Centers for Disease Control, noted for anti-gun junk science. We also noted that the panel appeared stacked, with no obvious pro-gun scholars, with anti-gun non-scholar Benjamin Civiletti and others. And we noted that one panel member, Steven Levitt, had been described to us by another scholar as 'rabidly anti-gun.' "
