The investigation continues but Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley said Saturday night's shooting death appears to be a case of self-defense. Hensley says 49-year-old Larry Junior Morton was shot and killed at a home on Simerly Creek Road. He says evidence indicates that Morton was in a dispute with his neighbor on Simerly Creek, went armed to his neighbor's home, became threatening and the neighbor shot him. |

One of the bills would expand the rights and protections of gun owners involved in self-defense shootings; the other bill would arm teachers in Indiana schools. House Bill 1253 will be debated before a conference committee at noon to provide funding for the training of teachers and staff so that they might be armed on school property. |

Sponsored by a minister/firearms instructor, the event was billed as “A Day of Promoting Responsible Gun Ownership.” There were activities for children and adults. All the guns for the children were disabled firearms. The event had an exploration table for kids with the message “look but don’t touch” to teach impulse control as well as home firearm safety classes. |

Carrying pistols concealed in public as you go about your daily business is serious business. A careless moment that inadvertently exposes an otherwise concealed pistol may garner the unwanted attention of a nearby criminal who is eager to wrest the gun from you forcibly, or the attention of a snoopy bystander who is keen to report you to the police. |

Officer Richard Vankeuren had just come home from a day at the shooting range in April 2015 with a bag full of guns slung over his shoulder and his new duty pistol on his hip. The 20-year veteran of the Arizona Department of Public Safety was a firearms trainer and weapons expert, but he was about to experience a first. As he lifted the bag off his shoulder, he heard a “boom” and smelled gunpowder. His first thought was that one of the guns in his bag had gone off. |

Bill Bovensiep combined his materials experience from work in the automotive industry with his respect for the M14 rifle platform to create the original Delta 14 Chassis—a high-strength glass-filled nylon stock for guns such as the Springfield M1A that could be customized with buttstocks based on the Mossberg 500 mount interface. The Gen 2 model is still U.S.-made and improves on the original with lighter weight (12 ozs. vs. 18 ozs.), a centered receiver-mounting channel, M-Lok slots at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, and an included UTG aluminum rail and BCM rail covers. |

As though it were deliberately timed, with the approach of the annual National Rifle Association’s convention—this coming weekend in Indianapolis for its 148th gathering—editorial columns and news stories are filling up with “all things gun.”
An editorial in the Aurora, Colorado Sentinel complained that 20 years after the Columbine High School tragedy, “nothing” had been done by Congress or state legislatures to prevent so-called “gun violence,” which is hardly accurate. |
