" 'No political career is more important than the rights for which our forefathers fought and died,' the statement said. 'We will win, and we will remember those who vote against us – and repay them in kind.' "

"After decades of conjuring the condition of mankind, I came to the Libertarian point of view. It's like a comfortable robe or pair of socks. It just fits. It's the place where you can tell your children old stories and truths and know they mean something. It has no element of greed or power in it, it is just what is right for you and all the rest of the world. Of this feeling did our founders give their all that we might have our freedom today. Sadly, in a little over 200 years it is gone."

"I worked in law enforcement from 1964 to 1998, both as a sworn officer (30 years) and in unsworn positions, and was directly responsible for several young people choosing law enforcement as a career. I notice that many teachers' organizations today frown on young people being taught gun safety or anything to do with firearms or target shooting. They blame gun owners for the actions of criminals."

"I understand Omar Siddique's dismay that no one interfered to stop the brutal beating death of Clifton Stokes on a busy Prince George's County road [letters, April 12]. But I also understand the reluctance of unarmed bystanders to confront a large man in a homicidal rage. This is called 'disparity of force,' and it provides legal justification for the use of deadly weapons in self-defense."

"While Ohio's police organizations are divided, national surveys show police support concealed-handgun laws by a 3 to 1 ratio. Many former strong opponents of right-to-carry laws changed their positions after the laws were in effect for a few years. The response of Glenn White, president of the Dallas Police Association, is typical: 'I lobbied against the law in 1993 and 1995 because I thought it would lead to wholesale armed conflict. That hasn't happened. . . . I think it's worked out well, and that says good things about the citizens who have permits. I'm a convert.' "

"You may have recently been contacted by an agent of the Bureau of Alchohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), an agency of the United States Department of Justice regarding certain firearm parts sold to you by our company, Interordnance of America, L.P. (IOA). IOA has received no formal notification from ATF regarding its contacts with its past purchasers. We cannot comment on the legal status of these particular parts since they are the subject of litigation with the U.S. government. However, generally speaking, IOA maintains its legal position that all imported parts sold by us were imported and sold in compliance with all local, state and federal laws."

"Daniel Berry was with friends fishing at a local creek when they saw a group of teenagers shooting potatoes out of the gun. One of the teens came up with the idea of putting frogs in the tube. When the gun began to misfire, Berry went over to help. He was looking down the barrel of the toy gun when it shot a frog into his face."

"Left-liberal Gun Nazis always exempt themselves from any and all laws they are more than willing to saddle others with. Sarah Brady purchased a rifle in violation of local laws. Such a violation in New Jersey could result in a ten-year prison term and a $500,000 fine, but Brady didn't even get a 'tsk, tsk!' from the Lefty NY Times. And Dianne Feinstein is about to order 'Dubya' and his invertebrate warmongering wonders calling themselves 'Republicans' in Congress to extend President Bubba's 'assault rifle' ban. What's an 'assault rifle' to these champions of liberty and equality? Why any rifle with a hole in the end of the barrel and a black stock!"

"Women need to abandon the Great Lie and claim responsibility for and control over their lives. Perhaps a good way to start is to stare at how women in less developed nations live. Without a free market and technology, they live in misery, near starvation. Without Western ideals of property rights and equality under the law, they have no protection from violence."

"The Great Truth is that women in our society constitute one of the most privileged and powerful classes of human being on earth. The challenge is to make women believe in their power. 'Woman as victim' is an idea whose time has passed. Woman as survivor and success must take its place."

"Red Lion Borough Police Chief Walt Hughes said Sheets entered the school armed with at least three handguns that he had carried in his book bag."

"Hughes said he learned from Sheets' parents that the boy had somehow gotten the key to his parents locked gun safe and took three revolvers. The principal was killed with a .44-caliber weapon, while the student was believed to have been killed with a .22-caliber weapon, York County Coroner Barry Bloss said."

-------
This tragic incident emphasizes the truth about gun-free zone laws: they don't work and proposed safe storage laws: they will not work if the individual is intent on committing a crime.

"Mr. Speaker, I rise today as a firm believer in the Second amendment and an opponent of all federal gun laws. In fact, I have introduced legislation, the Second Amendment Restoration Act (HR 153), which repeals misguided federal gun control laws such as the Brady Bill and the assault weapons ban. I believe the Second amendment is one of the foundations of our constitutional liberties. However, Mr. Speaker, another foundation of those liberties is the oath all of us took to respect constitutional limits on federal power. While I understand and sympathize with the goals of the proponents of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (HR 1036), this bill exceeds those constitutional limitations, and so I must oppose it."

"Like many crime-ridden cities, Washington, D.C. has not been able to keep guns away from the violent street gangs. But the city's success in disarming responsible, law-abiding residents has been remarkable. No handgun can be registered in D.C. Even those few pistols registered a quarter of a century ago, prior to the district's 1976 ban, cannot be carried from room to room without a license. All firearms in the home, including rifles and shotguns, must be unloaded and either disassembled or bound by a trigger lock. In effect, no one in the district can possess a functional firearm in his own residence. Naturally, the criminal class, undeterred by laws against murder and robbery, isn't likely to be cowed by gun regulations. But honest, peaceable citizens will obey the regulations, and therein lies the problem."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government that is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. — JAMES MADISON
